Psalm 2
KJV Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
King James BibleNew Living Translation
Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?1Why are the nations so angry? Why do they waste their time with futile plans?
The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,2The kings of the earth prepare for battle; the rulers plot together against the LORD and against his anointed one.
Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.3“Let us break their chains,” they cry, “and free ourselves from slavery to God.”
He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.4But the one who rules in heaven laughs. The Lord scoffs at them.
Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.5Then in anger he rebukes them, terrifying them with his fierce fury.
Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.6For the Lord declares, “I have placed my chosen king on the throne in Jerusalem, on my holy mountain.”
I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.7The king proclaims the LORD’s decree: “The LORD said to me, ‘You are my son. Today I have become your Father.
Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.8Only ask, and I will give you the nations as your inheritance, the whole earth as your possession.
Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.9You will break them with an iron rod and smash them like clay pots.’”
Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.10Now then, you kings, act wisely! Be warned, you rulers of the earth!
Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.11Serve the LORD with reverent fear, and rejoice with trembling.
Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.12Submit to God’s royal son, or he will become angry, and you will be destroyed in the midst of all your activities— for his anger flares up in an instant. But what joy for all who take refuge in him!
