NASB Parallel HCSB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New American Standard Bible 1995Holman Christian Standard Bible
Do not rejoice, O Israel, with exultation like the nations! For you have played the harlot, forsaking your God. You have loved harlots' earnings on every threshing floor.1Israel, do not rejoice jubilantly as the nations do, for you have acted promiscuously, leaving your God. You have loved the wages of a prostitute on every grain-threshing floor.
Threshing floor and wine press will not feed them, And the new wine will fail them.2Threshing floor and wine vat will not sustain them, and the new wine will fail them.
They will not remain in the LORD'S land, But Ephraim will return to Egypt, And in Assyria they will eat unclean food.3They will not stay in the land of the LORD. Instead, Ephraim will return to Egypt, and they will eat unclean food in Assyria.
They will not pour out drink offerings of wine to the LORD, Their sacrifices will not please Him. Their bread will be like mourners' bread; All who eat of it will be defiled, For their bread will be for themselves alone; It will not enter the house of the LORD.4They will not pour out their wine offerings to the LORD, and their sacrifices will not please Him. Their food will be like the bread of mourners; all who eat it become defiled. For their bread will be for their appetites alone; it will not enter the house of the LORD.
What will you do on the day of the appointed festival And on the day of the feast of the LORD?5What will you do on a festival day, on the day of the LORD's feast?
For behold, they will go because of destruction; Egypt will gather them up, Memphis will bury them. Weeds will take over their treasures of silver; Thorns will be in their tents.6For even if they flee from devastation, Egypt will gather them, and Memphis will bury them. Thistles will take possession of their precious silver; thorns will invade their tents.
The days of punishment have come, The days of retribution have come; Let Israel know this! The prophet is a fool, The inspired man is demented, Because of the grossness of your iniquity, And because your hostility is so great.7The days of punishment have come; the days of retribution have come. Let Israel recognize it! The prophet is a fool, and the inspired man is insane, because of the magnitude of your guilt and hostility.
Ephraim was a watchman with my God, a prophet; Yet the snare of a bird catcher is in all his ways, And there is only hostility in the house of his God.8Ephraim's watchman is with my God. The prophet encounters a fowler's snare on all his ways. Hostility is in the house of his God!
They have gone deep in depravity As in the days of Gibeah; He will remember their iniquity, He will punish their sins.9They have deeply corrupted themselves as in the days of Gibeah. He will remember their guilt; He will punish their sins.
I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness; I saw your forefathers as the earliest fruit on the fig tree in its first season. But they came to Baal-peor and devoted themselves to shame, And they became as detestable as that which they loved.10I discovered Israel like grapes in the wilderness. I saw your fathers like the first fruit of the fig tree in its first season. But they went to Baal-peor, consecrated themselves to Shame, and became detestable, like the thing they loved.
As for Ephraim, their glory will fly away like a bird-- No birth, no pregnancy and no conception!11Ephraim's glory will fly away like a bird: no birth, no gestation, no conception.
Though they bring up their children, Yet I will bereave them until not a man is left. Yes, woe to them indeed when I depart from them!12Even if they raise children, I will bereave them of each one. Yes, woe to them when I depart from them!
Ephraim, as I have seen, Is planted in a pleasant meadow like Tyre; But Ephraim will bring out his children for slaughter.13I have seen Ephraim like Tyre, planted in a meadow, so Ephraim will bring out his children to the executioner.
Give them, O LORD-- what will You give? Give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts.14Give them, LORD-- What should You give? Give them a womb that miscarries and breasts that are dry!
All their evil is at Gilgal; Indeed, I came to hate them there! Because of the wickedness of their deeds I will drive them out of My house! I will love them no more; All their princes are rebels.15All their evil appears at Gilgal, for there I came to hate them. I will drive them from My house because of their evil, wicked actions. I will no longer love them; all their leaders are rebellious.
Ephraim is stricken, their root is dried up, They will bear no fruit. Even though they bear children, I will slay the precious ones of their womb.16Ephraim is struck down; their roots are withered; they cannot bear fruit. Even if they bear children, I will kill the precious offspring of their wombs.
My God will cast them away Because they have not listened to Him; And they will be wanderers among the nations.17My God will reject them because they have not listened to Him; they will become wanderers among the nations.
