Lamentations 5
NASB Parallel NET [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New American Standard Bible 1995NET Bible
Remember, O LORD, what has befallen us; Look, and see our reproach!1O LORD, reflect on what has happened to us; consider and look at our disgrace.
Our inheritance has been turned over to strangers, Our houses to aliens.2Our inheritance is turned over to strangers; foreigners now occupy our homes.
We have become orphans without a father, Our mothers are like widows.3We have become fatherless orphans; our mothers have become widows.
We have to pay for our drinking water, Our wood comes to us at a price.4We must pay money for our own water; we must buy our own wood at a steep price.
Our pursuers are at our necks; We are worn out, there is no rest for us.5We are pursued--they are breathing down our necks; we are weary and have no rest.
We have submitted to Egypt and Assyria to get enough bread.6We have submitted to Egypt and Assyria in order to buy food to eat.
Our fathers sinned, and are no more; It is we who have borne their iniquities.7Our forefathers sinned and are dead, but we suffer their punishment.
Slaves rule over us; There is no one to deliver us from their hand.8Slaves rule over us; there is no one to rescue us from their power.
We get our bread at the risk of our lives Because of the sword in the wilderness.9At the risk of our lives we get our food because robbers lurk in the countryside.
Our skin has become as hot as an oven, Because of the burning heat of famine.10Our skin is hot as an oven due to a fever from hunger.
They ravished the women in Zion, The virgins in the cities of Judah.11They raped women in Zion, virgins in the towns of Judah.
Princes were hung by their hands; Elders were not respected.12Princes were hung by their hands; elders were mistreated.
Young men worked at the grinding mill, And youths stumbled under loads of wood.13The young men perform menial labor; boys stagger from their labor.
Elders are gone from the gate, Young men from their music.14The elders are gone from the city gate; the young men have stopped playing their music.
The joy of our hearts has ceased; Our dancing has been turned into mourning.15Our hearts no longer have any joy; our dancing is turned to mourning.
The crown has fallen from our head; Woe to us, for we have sinned!16The crown has fallen from our head; woe to us, for we have sinned!
Because of this our heart is faint, Because of these things our eyes are dim;17Because of this, our hearts are sick; because of these things, we can hardly see through our tears.
Because of Mount Zion which lies desolate, Foxes prowl in it.18For wild animals are prowling over Mount Zion, which lies desolate.
You, O LORD, rule forever; Your throne is from generation to generation.19But you, O LORD, reign forever; your throne endures from generation to generation.
Why do You forget us forever? Why do You forsake us so long?20Why do you keep on forgetting us? Why do you forsake us so long?
Restore us to You, O LORD, that we may be restored; Renew our days as of old,21Bring us back to yourself, O LORD, so that we may return to you; renew our life as in days before,
Unless You have utterly rejected us And are exceedingly angry with us.22unless you have utterly rejected us and are angry with us beyond measure.
