Psalm 74
NASB Parallel NIV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New American Standard Bible 1995New International Version
A Maskil of Asaph. O God, why have You rejected us forever? Why does Your anger smoke against the sheep of Your pasture?1A maskil of Asaph. O God, why have you rejected us forever? Why does your anger smolder against the sheep of your pasture?
Remember Your congregation, which You have purchased of old, Which You have redeemed to be the tribe of Your inheritance; And this Mount Zion, where You have dwelt.2Remember the nation you purchased long ago, the people of your inheritance, whom you redeemed-- Mount Zion, where you dwelt.
Turn Your footsteps toward the perpetual ruins; The enemy has damaged everything within the sanctuary.3Turn your steps toward these everlasting ruins, all this destruction the enemy has brought on the sanctuary.
Your adversaries have roared in the midst of Your meeting place; They have set up their own standards for signs.4Your foes roared in the place where you met with us; they set up their standards as signs.
It seems as if one had lifted up His axe in a forest of trees.5They behaved like men wielding axes to cut through a thicket of trees.
And now all its carved work They smash with hatchet and hammers.6They smashed all the carved paneling with their axes and hatchets.
They have burned Your sanctuary to the ground; They have defiled the dwelling place of Your name.7They burned your sanctuary to the ground; they defiled the dwelling place of your Name.
They said in their heart, "Let us completely subdue them." They have burned all the meeting places of God in the land.8They said in their hearts, "We will crush them completely!" They burned every place where God was worshiped in the land.
We do not see our signs; There is no longer any prophet, Nor is there any among us who knows how long.9We are given no signs from God; no prophets are left, and none of us knows how long this will be.
How long, O God, will the adversary revile, And the enemy spurn Your name forever?10How long will the enemy mock you, God? Will the foe revile your name forever?
Why do You withdraw Your hand, even Your right hand? From within Your bosom, destroy them!11Why do you hold back your hand, your right hand? Take it from the folds of your garment and destroy them!
Yet God is my king from of old, Who works deeds of deliverance in the midst of the earth.12But God is my King from long ago; he brings salvation on the earth.
You divided the sea by Your strength; You broke the heads of the sea monsters in the waters.13It was you who split open the sea by your power; you broke the heads of the monster in the waters.
You crushed the heads of Leviathan; You gave him as food for the creatures of the wilderness.14It was you who crushed the heads of Leviathan and gave it as food to the creatures of the desert.
You broke open springs and torrents; You dried up ever-flowing streams.15It was you who opened up springs and streams; you dried up the ever-flowing rivers.
Yours is the day, Yours also is the night; You have prepared the light and the sun.16The day is yours, and yours also the night; you established the sun and moon.
You have established all the boundaries of the earth; You have made summer and winter.17It was you who set all the boundaries of the earth; you made both summer and winter.
Remember this, O LORD, that the enemy has reviled, And a foolish people has spurned Your name.18Remember how the enemy has mocked you, LORD, how foolish people have reviled your name.
Do not deliver the soul of Your turtledove to the wild beast; Do not forget the life of Your afflicted forever.19Do not hand over the life of your dove to wild beasts; do not forget the lives of your afflicted people forever.
Consider the covenant; For the dark places of the land are full of the habitations of violence.20Have regard for your covenant, because haunts of violence fill the dark places of the land.
Let not the oppressed return dishonored; Let the afflicted and needy praise Your name.21Do not let the oppressed retreat in disgrace; may the poor and needy praise your name.
Arise, O God, and plead Your own cause; Remember how the foolish man reproaches You all day long.22Rise up, O God, and defend your cause; remember how fools mock you all day long.
Do not forget the voice of Your adversaries, The uproar of those who rise against You which ascends continually.23Do not ignore the clamor of your adversaries, the uproar of your enemies, which rises continually.
