NASB Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New American Standard Bible 1995New Living Translation
These are the words of the covenant which the LORD commanded Moses to make with the sons of Israel in the land of Moab, besides the covenant which He had made with them at Horeb.1 These are the terms of the covenant the LORD commanded Moses to make with the Israelites while they were in the land of Moab, in addition to the covenant he had made with them at Mount Sinai. Moses Reviews the Covenant
And Moses summoned all Israel and said to them, "You have seen all that the LORD did before your eyes in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh and all his servants and all his land;2 Moses summoned all the Israelites and said to them, “You have seen with your own eyes everything the LORD did in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh and to all his servants and to his whole country—
the great trials which your eyes have seen, those great signs and wonders.3all the great tests of strength, the miraculous signs, and the amazing wonders.
"Yet to this day the LORD has not given you a heart to know, nor eyes to see, nor ears to hear.4But to this day the LORD has not given you minds that understand, nor eyes that see, nor ears that hear!
"I have led you forty years in the wilderness; your clothes have not worn out on you, and your sandal has not worn out on your foot.5For forty years I led you through the wilderness, yet your clothes and sandals did not wear out.
"You have not eaten bread, nor have you drunk wine or strong drink, in order that you might know that I am the LORD your God.6You ate no bread and drank no wine or other alcoholic drink, but he provided for you so you would know that he is the LORD your God.
"When you reached this place, Sihon the king of Heshbon and Og the king of Bashan came out to meet us for battle, but we defeated them;7“When we came here, King Sihon of Heshbon and King Og of Bashan came out to fight against us, but we defeated them.
and we took their land and gave it as an inheritance to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of the Manassites.8We took their land and gave it to the tribes of Reuben and Gad and to the half-tribe of Manasseh as their grant of land.
"So keep the words of this covenant to do them, that you may prosper in all that you do.9“Therefore, obey the terms of this covenant so that you will prosper in everything you do.
"You stand today, all of you, before the LORD your God: your chiefs, your tribes, your elders and your officers, even all the men of Israel,10All of you—tribal leaders, elders, officers, all the men of Israel—are standing today in the presence of the LORD your God.
your little ones, your wives, and the alien who is within your camps, from the one who chops your wood to the one who draws your water,11Your little ones and your wives are with you, as well as the foreigners living among you who chop your wood and carry your water.
that you may enter into the covenant with the LORD your God, and into His oath which the LORD your God is making with you today,12You are standing here today to enter into the covenant of the LORD your God. The LORD is making this covenant, including the curses.
in order that He may establish you today as His people and that He may be your God, just as He spoke to you and as He swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.13By entering into the covenant today, he will establish you as his people and confirm that he is your God, just as he promised you and as he swore to your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
"Now not with you alone am I making this covenant and this oath,14“But you are not the only ones with whom I am making this covenant with its curses.
but both with those who stand here with us today in the presence of the LORD our God and with those who are not with us here today15I am making this covenant both with you who stand here today in the presence of the LORD our God, and also with the future generations who are not standing here today.
(for you know how we lived in the land of Egypt, and how we came through the midst of the nations through which you passed;16“You remember how we lived in the land of Egypt and how we traveled through the lands of enemy nations as we left.
moreover, you have seen their abominations and their idols of wood, stone, silver, and gold, which they had with them);17You have seen their detestable practices and their idols made of wood, stone, silver, and gold.
so that there will not be among you a man or woman, or family or tribe, whose heart turns away today from the LORD our God, to go and serve the gods of those nations; that there will not be among you a root bearing poisonous fruit and wormwood.18I am making this covenant with you so that no one among you—no man, woman, clan, or tribe—will turn away from the LORD our God to worship these gods of other nations, and so that no root among you bears bitter and poisonous fruit.
"It shall be when he hears the words of this curse, that he will boast, saying, 'I have peace though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart in order to destroy the watered land with the dry.'19“Those who hear the warnings of this curse should not congratulate themselves, thinking, ‘I am safe, even though I am following the desires of my own stubborn heart.’ This would lead to utter ruin!
"The LORD shall never be willing to forgive him, but rather the anger of the LORD and His jealousy will burn against that man, and every curse which is written in this book will rest on him, and the LORD will blot out his name from under heaven.20The LORD will never pardon such people. Instead his anger and jealousy will burn against them. All the curses written in this book will come down on them, and the LORD will erase their names from under heaven.
"Then the LORD will single him out for adversity from all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant which are written in this book of the law.21The LORD will separate them from all the tribes of Israel, to pour out on them all the curses of the covenant recorded in this Book of Instruction.
"Now the generation to come, your sons who rise up after you and the foreigner who comes from a distant land, when they see the plagues of the land and the diseases with which the LORD has afflicted it, will say,22“Then the generations to come, both your own descendants and the foreigners who come from distant lands, will see the devastation of the land and the diseases the LORD inflicts on it.
'All its land is brimstone and salt, a burning waste, unsown and unproductive, and no grass grows in it, like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which the LORD overthrew in His anger and in His wrath.'23They will exclaim, ‘The whole land is devastated by sulfur and salt. It is a wasteland with nothing planted and nothing growing, not even a blade of grass. It is like the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which the LORD destroyed in his intense anger.’
"All the nations will say, 'Why has the LORD done thus to this land? Why this great outburst of anger?'24“And all the surrounding nations will ask, ‘Why has the LORD done this to this land? Why was he so angry?’
"Then men will say, 'Because they forsook the covenant of the LORD, the God of their fathers, which He made with them when He brought them out of the land of Egypt.25“And the answer will be, ‘This happened because the people of the land abandoned the covenant that the LORD, the God of their ancestors, made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt.
'They went and served other gods and worshiped them, gods whom they have not known and whom He had not allotted to them.26Instead, they turned away to serve and worship gods they had not known before, gods that were not from the LORD.
'Therefore, the anger of the LORD burned against that land, to bring upon it every curse which is written in this book;27That is why the LORD’s anger has burned against this land, bringing down on it every curse recorded in this book.
and the LORD uprooted them from their land in anger and in fury and in great wrath, and cast them into another land, as it is this day.'28In great anger and fury the LORD uprooted his people from their land and banished them to another land, where they still live today!’
"The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our sons forever, that we may observe all the words of this law.29“The LORD our God has secrets known to no one. We are not accountable for them, but we and our children are accountable forever for all that he has revealed to us, so that we may obey all the terms of these instructions.
