| 3Six years you may sow your field, and six years you may prune your vineyard and gather the produce, | 3You may sow your field for six years, and you may prune your vineyard and gather its produce for six years. |
| 4but in the seventh year the land must have a Sabbath of complete rest--a Sabbath to the LORD. You must not sow your field or prune your vineyard. | 4But there will be a Sabbath of complete rest for the land in the seventh year, a Sabbath to the LORD: you are not to sow your field or prune your vineyard. |
| 5You must not gather in the aftergrowth of your harvest and you must not pick the grapes of your unpruned vines; the land must have a year of complete rest. | 5You are not to reap what grows by itself from your crop, or harvest the grapes of your untended vines. It is to be a year of complete rest for the land. |
| 6You may have the Sabbath produce of the land to eat--you, your male servant, your female servant, your hired worker, the resident foreigner who stays with you, | 6Whatever the land produces during the Sabbath year can be food for you--for yourself, your male or female slave, and the hired worker or alien who resides with you. |
| 7your cattle, and the wild animals that are in your land--all its produce will be for you to eat. | 7All of its growth may serve as food for your livestock and the wild animals in your land. |
| 8"'You must count off seven weeks of years, seven times seven years, and the days of the seven weeks of years will amount to forty-nine years. | 8"You are to count seven sabbatical years, seven times seven years, so that the time period of the seven sabbatical years amounts to forty-nine. |
| 9You must sound loud horn blasts--in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, on the Day of Atonement--you must sound the horn in your entire land. | 9Then you are to sound a trumpet loudly in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month; you will sound it throughout your land on the Day of Atonement. |
| 10So you must consecrate the fiftieth year, and you must proclaim a release in the land for all its inhabitants. That year will be your jubilee; each one of you must return to his property and each one of you must return to his clan. | 10You are to consecrate the fiftieth year and proclaim freedom in the land for all its inhabitants. It will be your Jubilee, when each of you is to return to his property and each of you to his clan. |

| 15You may buy it from your fellow citizen according to the number of years since the last jubilee; he may sell it to you according to the years of produce that are left. | 15You are to make the purchase from your neighbor based on the number of years since the last Jubilee. He is to sell to you based on the number of remaining harvest years. |
| 16The more years there are, the more you may make its purchase price, and the fewer years there are, the less you must make its purchase price, because he is only selling to you a number of years of produce. | 16You are to increase its price in proportion to a greater amount of years, and decrease its price in proportion to a lesser amount of years, because what he is selling to you is a number of harvests. |
| 17No one is to oppress his fellow citizen, but you must fear your God, because I am the LORD your God. | 17You are not to cheat one another, but fear your God, for I am the LORD your God. |
| 18You must obey my statutes and my regulations; you must be sure to keep them so that you may live securely in the land. | 18"You are to keep my statutes and ordinances and carefully observe them, so that you may live securely in the land. |
| 19"'The land will give its fruit and you may eat until you are satisfied, and you may live securely in the land. | 19Then the land will yield its fruit, so that you can eat, be satisfied, and live securely in the land. |
| 20If you say, 'What will we eat in the seventh year if we do not sow and gather our produce?' | 20If you wonder: 'What will we eat in the seventh year if we don't sow or gather our produce?' |
| 21I will command my blessing for you in the sixth year so that it may yield the produce for three years, | 21I will appoint my blessing for you in the sixth year, so that it will produce a crop sufficient for three years. |
| 22and you may sow the eighth year and eat from that sixth year's produce--old produce. Until you bring in the ninth year's produce, you may eat old produce. | 22When you sow in the eighth year, you will be eating from the previous harvest. You will be eating this until the ninth year when its harvest comes in. |
| 23The land must not be sold without reclaim because the land belongs to me, for you are foreigners and residents with me. | 23"The land is not to be permanently sold because it is mine, and you are only aliens and temporary residents on my land. |
| 24In all your landed property you must provide for the right of redemption of the land. | 24You are to allow the redemption of any land you occupy. |
| 25"'If your brother becomes impoverished and sells some of his property, his near redeemer is to come to you and redeem what his brother sold. | 25If your brother becomes destitute and sells part of his property, his nearest relative may come and redeem what his brother has sold. |
| 26If a man has no redeemer, but he prospers and gains enough for its redemption, | 26If a man has no family redeemer, but he prospers and obtains enough to redeem his land, |
| 27he is to calculate the value of the years it was sold, refund the balance to the man to whom he had sold it, and return to his property. | 27he may calculate the years since its sale, repay the balance to the man he sold it to, and return to his property. |
| 28If he has not prospered enough to refund a balance to him, then what he sold will belong to the one who bought it until the jubilee year, but it must revert in the jubilee and the original owner may return to his property. | 28But if he cannot obtain enough to repay him, what he sold will remain in the possession of its purchaser until the Year of Jubilee. It is to be released at the Jubilee, so that he may return to his property. |
| 29"'If a man sells a residential house in a walled city, its right of redemption must extend until one full year from its sale; its right of redemption must extend to a full calendar year. | 29"If a man sells a residence in a walled city, his right of redemption will last until a year has passed after its sale; his right of redemption will last a year. |
| 30If it is not redeemed before the full calendar year is ended, the house in the walled city will belong without reclaim to the one who bought it throughout his generations; it will not revert in the jubilee. | 30If it is not redeemed by the end of a full year, then the house in the walled city is permanently transferred to its purchaser throughout his generations. It is not to be released on the Jubilee. |
| 31The houses of villages, however, which have no wall surrounding them must be considered as the field of the land; they will have the right of redemption and must revert in the jubilee. | 31But houses in settlements that have no walls around them are to be classified as open fields. The right to redeem such houses stays in effect, and they are to be released at the Jubilee. |
| 32As for the cities of the Levites, the houses in the cities which they possess, the Levites must have a perpetual right of redemption. | 32"Concerning the Levitical cities, the Levites always have the right to redeem houses in the cities they possess. |
| 33Whatever someone among the Levites might redeem--the sale of a house which is his property in a city--must revert in the jubilee, because the houses of the cities of the Levites are their property in the midst of the Israelites. | 33Whatever property one of the Levites can redeem--a house sold in a city they possess--is to be released at the Jubilee, because the houses in the Levitical cities are their possession among the Israelites. |
| 34Moreover, the open field areas of their cities must not be sold, because that is their perpetual possession. | 34The open pastureland around their cities may not be sold, for it is their permanent possession. |
| 35"'If your brother becomes impoverished and is indebted to you, you must support him; he must live with you like a foreign resident. | 35"If your brother becomes destitute and cannot sustain himself among you, you are to support him as an alien or temporary resident, so that he can continue to live among you. |
| 36Do not take interest or profit from him, but you must fear your God and your brother must live with you. | 36Do not profit or take interest from him, but fear your God and let your brother live among you. |
| 37You must not lend him your money at interest and you must not sell him food for profit. | 37You are not to lend him your silver with interest or sell him your food for profit. |
| 38I am the LORD your God who brought you out from the land of Egypt to give you the land of Canaan--to be your God. | 38I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt to give you the land of Canaan and to be your God. |
| 39"'If your brother becomes impoverished with regard to you so that he sells himself to you, you must not subject him to slave service. | 39"If your brother among you becomes destitute and sells himself to you, you must not force him to do slave labor. |
| 40He must be with you as a hired worker, as a resident foreigner; he must serve with you until the year of jubilee, | 40Let him stay with you as a hired worker or temporary resident; he may work for you until the Year of Jubilee. |
| 41but then he may go free, he and his children with him, and may return to his family and to the property of his ancestors. | 41Then he and his children are to be released from you, and he may return to his clan and his ancestral property. |
| 42Since they are my servants whom I brought out from the land of Egypt, they must not be sold in a slave sale. | 42They are not to be sold as slaves, because they are my servants that I brought out of the land of Egypt. |
| 43You must not rule over him harshly, but you must fear your God. | 43You are not to rule over them harshly but fear your God. |
| 44"'As for your male and female slaves who may belong to you--you may buy male and female slaves from the nations all around you. | 44Your male and female slaves are to be from the nations around you; you may purchase male and female slaves. |
| 45Also you may buy slaves from the children of the foreigners who reside with you, and from their families that are with you, whom they have fathered in your land, they may become your property. | 45You may also purchase them from the aliens residing with you, or from their families living among you--those born in your land. These may become your property. |
| 46You may give them as inheritance to your children after you to possess as property. You may enslave them perpetually. However, as for your brothers the Israelites, no man may rule over his brother harshly. | 46You may leave them to your sons after you to inherit as property; you can make them slaves for life. But concerning your brothers, the Israelites, you must not rule over one another harshly. |
| 47"'If a resident foreigner who is with you prospers and your brother becomes impoverished with regard to him so that he sells himself to a resident foreigner who is with you or to a member of a foreigner's family, | 47"If an alien or temporary resident living among you prospers, but your brother living near him becomes destitute and sells himself to the alien living among you, or to a member of the resident alien's clan, |
| 48after he has sold himself he retains a right of redemption. One of his brothers may redeem him, | 48he has the right of redemption after he has been sold. One of his brothers may redeem him. |
| 49or his uncle or his cousin may redeem him, or anyone of the rest of his blood relatives--his family--may redeem him, or if he prospers he may redeem himself. | 49His uncle or cousin may redeem him, or any of his close relatives from his clan may redeem him. If he prospers, he may redeem himself. |
| 50He must calculate with the one who bought him the number of years from the year he sold himself to him until the jubilee year, and the cost of his sale must correspond to the number of years, according to the rate of wages a hired worker would have earned while with him. | 50The one who purchased him is to calculate the time from the year he sold himself to him until the Year of Jubilee. The price of his sale will be determined by the number of years. It will be set for him like the daily wages of a hired worker. |
| 51If there are still many years, in keeping with them he must refund most of the cost of his purchase for his redemption, | 51If many years are still left, he must pay his redemption price in proportion to them based on his purchase price. |
| 52but if only a few years remain until the jubilee, he must calculate for himself in keeping with the remaining years and refund it for his redemption. | 52If only a few years remain until the Year of Jubilee, he will calculate and pay the price of his redemption in proportion to his remaining years. |
| 53He must be with the one who bought him like a yearly hired worker. The one who bought him must not rule over him harshly in your sight. | 53He will stay with him like a man hired year by year. A resident alien is not to rule over him harshly in your sight. |
| 54If, however, he is not redeemed in these ways, he must go free in the jubilee year, he and his children with him, | 54If he is not redeemed in any of these ways, he and his children are to be released at the Year of Jubilee. |
| 55because the Israelites are my own servants; they are my servants whom I brought out from the land of Egypt. I am the LORD your God. | 55For the Israelites are my servants. They are my servants that I brought out of the land of Egypt; I am the LORD your God. |
