For the music director; By David, a psalm. I relied completely on the LORD, and he turned toward me and heard my cry for help. 1For the choir director. A Davidic psalm. I waited patiently for the LORD, and He turned to me and heard my cry for help.
He lifted me out of the watery pit, out of the slimy mud. He placed my feet on a rock and gave me secure footing. 2He brought me up from a desolate pit, out of the muddy clay, and set my feet on a rock, making my steps secure.
He gave me reason to sing a new song, praising our God. May many see what God has done, so that they might swear allegiance to him and trust in the LORD! 3He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD.
How blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD and does not seek help from the proud or from liars! 4How happy is the man who has put his trust in the LORD and has not turned to the proud or to those who run after lies!
O LORD, my God, you have accomplished many things; you have done amazing things and carried out your purposes for us. No one can thwart you! I want to declare them and talk about them, but they are too numerous to recount! 5 LORD my God, You have done many things-- Your wonderful works and Your plans for us; none can compare with You. If I were to report and speak of them, they are more than can be told.
Receiving sacrifices and offerings are not your primary concern. You make that quite clear to me! You do not ask for burnt sacrifices and sin offerings. 6You do not delight in sacrifice and offering; You open my ears to listen. You do not ask for a whole burnt offering or a sin offering.
Then I say, "Look! I come! What is written in the scroll pertains to me. 7Then I said, "See, I have come; it is written about me in the volume of the scroll.
I want to do what pleases you, my God. Your law dominates my thoughts." 8I delight to do Your will, my God; Your instruction lives within me."
I have told the great assembly about your justice. Look! I spare no words! O LORD, you know this is true. 9I proclaim righteousness in the great assembly; see, I do not keep my mouth closed-- as You know, LORD.
I have not failed to tell about your justice; I spoke about your reliability and deliverance; I have not neglected to tell the great assembly about your loyal love and faithfulness. 10I did not hide Your righteousness in my heart; I spoke about Your faithfulness and salvation; I did not conceal Your constant love and truth from the great assembly.
O LORD, you do not withhold your compassion from me. May your loyal love and faithfulness continually protect me! 11 LORD, do not withhold Your compassion from me; Your constant love and truth will always guard me.
For innumerable dangers surround me. My sins overtake me so I am unable to see; they outnumber the hairs of my head so my strength fails me. 12For troubles without number have surrounded me; my sins have overtaken me; I am unable to see. They are more than the hairs of my head, and my courage leaves me.
Please be willing, O LORD, to rescue me! O LORD, hurry and help me! 13 LORD, be pleased to deliver me; hurry to help me, LORD.
May those who are trying to snatch away my life be totally embarrassed and ashamed! May those who want to harm me be turned back and ashamed! 14Let those who seek to take my life be disgraced and confounded. Let those who wish me harm be driven back and humiliated.
May those who say to me, "Aha! Aha!" be humiliated and disgraced! 15Let those who say to me, "Aha, aha!" be horrified because of their shame.
May all those who seek you be happy and rejoice in you! May those who love to experience your deliverance say continually, "May the LORD be praised!" 16Let all who seek You rejoice and be glad in You; let those who love Your salvation continually say," The LORD is great!"
I am oppressed and needy! May the Lord pay attention to me! You are my helper and my deliverer! O my God, do not delay! 17I am afflicted and needy; the Lord thinks of me. You are my helper and my deliverer; my God, do not delay.
