For the music director; By David, a psalm. I relied completely on the LORD, and he turned toward me and heard my cry for help. 1For the choir director. A Psalm of David. I waited patiently for the LORD; And He inclined to me and heard my cry.
He lifted me out of the watery pit, out of the slimy mud. He placed my feet on a rock and gave me secure footing. 2He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay, And He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm.
He gave me reason to sing a new song, praising our God. May many see what God has done, so that they might swear allegiance to him and trust in the LORD! 3He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God; Many will see and fear And will trust in the LORD.
How blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD and does not seek help from the proud or from liars! 4How blessed is the man who has made the LORD his trust, And has not turned to the proud, nor to those who lapse into falsehood.
O LORD, my God, you have accomplished many things; you have done amazing things and carried out your purposes for us. No one can thwart you! I want to declare them and talk about them, but they are too numerous to recount! 5Many, O LORD my God, are the wonders which You have done, And Your thoughts toward us; There is none to compare with You. If I would declare and speak of them, They would be too numerous to count.
Receiving sacrifices and offerings are not your primary concern. You make that quite clear to me! You do not ask for burnt sacrifices and sin offerings. 6Sacrifice and meal offering You have not desired; My ears You have opened; Burnt offering and sin offering You have not required.
Then I say, "Look! I come! What is written in the scroll pertains to me. 7Then I said, "Behold, I come; In the scroll of the book it is written of me.
I want to do what pleases you, my God. Your law dominates my thoughts." 8I delight to do Your will, O my God; Your Law is within my heart."
I have told the great assembly about your justice. Look! I spare no words! O LORD, you know this is true. 9I have proclaimed glad tidings of righteousness in the great congregation; Behold, I will not restrain my lips, O LORD, You know.
I have not failed to tell about your justice; I spoke about your reliability and deliverance; I have not neglected to tell the great assembly about your loyal love and faithfulness. 10I have not hidden Your righteousness within my heart; I have spoken of Your faithfulness and Your salvation; I have not concealed Your lovingkindness and Your truth from the great congregation.
O LORD, you do not withhold your compassion from me. May your loyal love and faithfulness continually protect me! 11You, O LORD, will not withhold Your compassion from me; Your lovingkindness and Your truth will continually preserve me.
For innumerable dangers surround me. My sins overtake me so I am unable to see; they outnumber the hairs of my head so my strength fails me. 12For evils beyond number have surrounded me; My iniquities have overtaken me, so that I am not able to see; They are more numerous than the hairs of my head, And my heart has failed me.
Please be willing, O LORD, to rescue me! O LORD, hurry and help me! 13Be pleased, O LORD, to deliver me; Make haste, O LORD, to help me.
May those who are trying to snatch away my life be totally embarrassed and ashamed! May those who want to harm me be turned back and ashamed! 14Let those be ashamed and humiliated together Who seek my life to destroy it; Let those be turned back and dishonored Who delight in my hurt.
May those who say to me, "Aha! Aha!" be humiliated and disgraced! 15Let those be appalled because of their shame Who say to me, "Aha, aha!"
May all those who seek you be happy and rejoice in you! May those who love to experience your deliverance say continually, "May the LORD be praised!" 16Let all who seek You rejoice and be glad in You; Let those who love Your salvation say continually, "The LORD be magnified!"
I am oppressed and needy! May the Lord pay attention to me! You are my helper and my deliverer! O my God, do not delay! 17Since I am afflicted and needy, Let the Lord be mindful of me. You are my help and my deliverer; Do not delay, O my God.
