NET BibleNew Living Translation
For the music director; By David, a psalm. I relied completely on the LORD, and he turned toward me and heard my cry for help. 1I waited patiently for the LORD to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry.
He lifted me out of the watery pit, out of the slimy mud. He placed my feet on a rock and gave me secure footing. 2He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along.
He gave me reason to sing a new song, praising our God. May many see what God has done, so that they might swear allegiance to him and trust in the LORD! 3He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the LORD.
How blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD and does not seek help from the proud or from liars! 4Oh, the joys of those who trust the LORD, who have no confidence in the proud or in those who worship idols.
O LORD, my God, you have accomplished many things; you have done amazing things and carried out your purposes for us. No one can thwart you! I want to declare them and talk about them, but they are too numerous to recount! 5O LORD my God, you have performed many wonders for us. Your plans for us are too numerous to list. You have no equal. If I tried to recite all your wonderful deeds, I would never come to the end of them.
Receiving sacrifices and offerings are not your primary concern. You make that quite clear to me! You do not ask for burnt sacrifices and sin offerings. 6You take no delight in sacrifices or offerings. Now that you have made me listen, I finally understand — you don’t require burnt offerings or sin offerings.
Then I say, "Look! I come! What is written in the scroll pertains to me. 7Then I said, “Look, I have come. As is written about me in the Scriptures:
I want to do what pleases you, my God. Your law dominates my thoughts." 8I take joy in doing your will, my God, for your instructions are written on my heart.”
I have told the great assembly about your justice. Look! I spare no words! O LORD, you know this is true. 9I have told all your people about your justice. I have not been afraid to speak out, as you, O LORD, well know.
I have not failed to tell about your justice; I spoke about your reliability and deliverance; I have not neglected to tell the great assembly about your loyal love and faithfulness. 10I have not kept the good news of your justice hidden in my heart; I have talked about your faithfulness and saving power. I have told everyone in the great assembly of your unfailing love and faithfulness.
O LORD, you do not withhold your compassion from me. May your loyal love and faithfulness continually protect me! 11LORD, don’t hold back your tender mercies from me. Let your unfailing love and faithfulness always protect me.
For innumerable dangers surround me. My sins overtake me so I am unable to see; they outnumber the hairs of my head so my strength fails me. 12For troubles surround me— too many to count! My sins pile up so high I can’t see my way out. They outnumber the hairs on my head. I have lost all courage.
Please be willing, O LORD, to rescue me! O LORD, hurry and help me! 13Please, LORD, rescue me! Come quickly, LORD, and help me.
May those who are trying to snatch away my life be totally embarrassed and ashamed! May those who want to harm me be turned back and ashamed! 14May those who try to destroy me be humiliated and put to shame. May those who take delight in my trouble be turned back in disgrace.
May those who say to me, "Aha! Aha!" be humiliated and disgraced! 15Let them be horrified by their shame, for they said, “Aha! We’ve got him now!”
May all those who seek you be happy and rejoice in you! May those who love to experience your deliverance say continually, "May the LORD be praised!" 16But may all who search for you be filled with joy and gladness in you. May those who love your salvation repeatedly shout, “The LORD is great!”
I am oppressed and needy! May the Lord pay attention to me! You are my helper and my deliverer! O my God, do not delay! 17As for me, since I am poor and needy, let the Lord keep me in his thoughts. You are my helper and my savior. O my God, do not delay.
