A psalm--a song used at the dedication of the temple; by David. I will praise you, O LORD, for you lifted me up, and did not allow my enemies to gloat over me. 1A psalm. A song. For the dedication of the temple. Of David. I will exalt you, LORD, for you lifted me out of the depths and did not let my enemies gloat over me.
O LORD my God, I cried out to you and you healed me. 2LORD my God, I called to you for help, and you healed me.
O LORD, you pulled me up from Sheol; you rescued me from among those descending into the grave. 3You, LORD, brought me up from the realm of the dead; you spared me from going down to the pit.
Sing to the LORD, you faithful followers of his; give thanks to his holy name. 4Sing the praises of the LORD, you his faithful people; praise his holy name.
For his anger lasts only a brief moment, and his good favor restores one's life. One may experience sorrow during the night, but joy arrives in the morning. 5For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.
In my self-confidence I said, "I will never be upended." 6When I felt secure, I said, "I will never be shaken."
O LORD, in your good favor you made me secure. Then you rejected me and I was terrified. 7LORD, when you favored me, you made my royal mountain stand firm; but when you hid your face, I was dismayed.
To you, O LORD, I cried out; I begged the Lord for mercy: 8To you, LORD, I called; to the Lord I cried for mercy:
"What profit is there in taking my life, in my descending into the Pit? Can the dust of the grave praise you? Can it declare your loyalty? 9"What is gained if I am silenced, if I go down to the pit? Will the dust praise you? Will it proclaim your faithfulness?
Hear, O LORD, and have mercy on me! O LORD, deliver me!" 10Hear, LORD, and be merciful to me; LORD, be my help."
Then you turned my lament into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and covered me with joy. 11You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy,
So now my heart will sing to you and not be silent; O LORD my God, I will always give thanks to you. 12that my heart may sing your praises and not be silent. LORD my God, I will praise you forever.
