Psalm 72
NET Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
NET BibleNew Living Translation
For Solomon. O God, grant the king the ability to make just decisions! Grant the king's son the ability to make fair decisions! 1Give your love of justice to the king, O God, and righteousness to the king’s son.
Then he will judge your people fairly, and your oppressed ones equitably. 2Help him judge your people in the right way; let the poor always be treated fairly.
The mountains will bring news of peace to the people, and the hills will announce justice. 3May the mountains yield prosperity for all, and may the hills be fruitful.
He will defend the oppressed among the people; he will deliver the children of the poor and crush the oppressor. 4Help him to defend the poor, to rescue the children of the needy, and to crush their oppressors.
People will fear you as long as the sun and moon remain in the sky, for generation after generation. 5May they fear you as long as the sun shines, as long as the moon remains in the sky. Yes, forever!
He will descend like rain on the mown grass, like showers that drench the earth. 6May the king’s rule be refreshing like spring rain on freshly cut grass, like the showers that water the earth.
During his days the godly will flourish; peace will prevail as long as the moon remains in the sky. 7May all the godly flourish during his reign. May there be abundant prosperity until the moon is no more.
May he rule from sea to sea, and from the Euphrates River to the ends of the earth! 8May he reign from sea to sea, and from the Euphrates River to the ends of the earth.
Before him the coastlands will bow down, and his enemies will lick the dust. 9Desert nomads will bow before him; his enemies will fall before him in the dust.
The kings of Tarshish and the coastlands will offer gifts; the kings of Sheba and Seba will bring tribute. 10The western kings of Tarshish and other distant lands will bring him tribute. The eastern kings of Sheba and Seba will bring him gifts.
All kings will bow down to him; all nations will serve him. 11All kings will bow before him, and all nations will serve him.
For he will rescue the needy when they cry out for help, and the oppressed who have no defender. 12He will rescue the poor when they cry to him; he will help the oppressed, who have no one to defend them.
He will take pity on the poor and needy; the lives of the needy he will save. 13He feels pity for the weak and the needy, and he will rescue them.
From harm and violence he will defend them; he will value their lives. 14He will redeem them from oppression and violence, for their lives are precious to him.
May he live! May they offer him gold from Sheba! May they continually pray for him! May they pronounce blessings on him all day long! 15Long live the king! May the gold of Sheba be given to him. May the people always pray for him and bless him all day long.
May there be an abundance of grain in the earth; on the tops of the mountains may it sway! May its fruit trees flourish like the forests of Lebanon! May its crops be as abundant as the grass of the earth! 16May there be abundant grain throughout the land, flourishing even on the hilltops. May the fruit trees flourish like the trees of Lebanon, and may the people thrive like grass in a field.
May his fame endure! May his dynasty last as long as the sun remains in the sky! May they use his name when they formulate their blessings! May all nations consider him to be favored by God! 17May the king’s name endure forever; may it continue as long as the sun shines. May all nations be blessed through him and bring him praise.
The LORD God, the God of Israel, deserves praise! He alone accomplishes amazing things! 18Praise the LORD God, the God of Israel, who alone does such wonderful things.
His glorious name deserves praise forevermore! May his majestic splendor fill the whole earth! We agree! We agree! 19Praise his glorious name forever! Let the whole earth be filled with his glory. Amen and amen!
