Psalm 74
NIV Parallel NASB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New International VersionNew American Standard Bible 1995
A maskil of Asaph. O God, why have you rejected us forever? Why does your anger smolder against the sheep of your pasture?1A Maskil of Asaph. O God, why have You rejected us forever? Why does Your anger smoke against the sheep of Your pasture?
Remember the nation you purchased long ago, the people of your inheritance, whom you redeemed-- Mount Zion, where you dwelt.2Remember Your congregation, which You have purchased of old, Which You have redeemed to be the tribe of Your inheritance; And this Mount Zion, where You have dwelt.
Turn your steps toward these everlasting ruins, all this destruction the enemy has brought on the sanctuary.3Turn Your footsteps toward the perpetual ruins; The enemy has damaged everything within the sanctuary.
Your foes roared in the place where you met with us; they set up their standards as signs.4Your adversaries have roared in the midst of Your meeting place; They have set up their own standards for signs.
They behaved like men wielding axes to cut through a thicket of trees.5It seems as if one had lifted up His axe in a forest of trees.
They smashed all the carved paneling with their axes and hatchets.6And now all its carved work They smash with hatchet and hammers.
They burned your sanctuary to the ground; they defiled the dwelling place of your Name.7They have burned Your sanctuary to the ground; They have defiled the dwelling place of Your name.
They said in their hearts, "We will crush them completely!" They burned every place where God was worshiped in the land.8They said in their heart, "Let us completely subdue them." They have burned all the meeting places of God in the land.
We are given no signs from God; no prophets are left, and none of us knows how long this will be.9We do not see our signs; There is no longer any prophet, Nor is there any among us who knows how long.
How long will the enemy mock you, God? Will the foe revile your name forever?10How long, O God, will the adversary revile, And the enemy spurn Your name forever?
Why do you hold back your hand, your right hand? Take it from the folds of your garment and destroy them!11Why do You withdraw Your hand, even Your right hand? From within Your bosom, destroy them!
But God is my King from long ago; he brings salvation on the earth.12Yet God is my king from of old, Who works deeds of deliverance in the midst of the earth.
It was you who split open the sea by your power; you broke the heads of the monster in the waters.13You divided the sea by Your strength; You broke the heads of the sea monsters in the waters.
It was you who crushed the heads of Leviathan and gave it as food to the creatures of the desert.14You crushed the heads of Leviathan; You gave him as food for the creatures of the wilderness.
It was you who opened up springs and streams; you dried up the ever-flowing rivers.15You broke open springs and torrents; You dried up ever-flowing streams.
The day is yours, and yours also the night; you established the sun and moon.16Yours is the day, Yours also is the night; You have prepared the light and the sun.
It was you who set all the boundaries of the earth; you made both summer and winter.17You have established all the boundaries of the earth; You have made summer and winter.
Remember how the enemy has mocked you, LORD, how foolish people have reviled your name.18Remember this, O LORD, that the enemy has reviled, And a foolish people has spurned Your name.
Do not hand over the life of your dove to wild beasts; do not forget the lives of your afflicted people forever.19Do not deliver the soul of Your turtledove to the wild beast; Do not forget the life of Your afflicted forever.
Have regard for your covenant, because haunts of violence fill the dark places of the land.20Consider the covenant; For the dark places of the land are full of the habitations of violence.
Do not let the oppressed retreat in disgrace; may the poor and needy praise your name.21Let not the oppressed return dishonored; Let the afflicted and needy praise Your name.
Rise up, O God, and defend your cause; remember how fools mock you all day long.22Arise, O God, and plead Your own cause; Remember how the foolish man reproaches You all day long.
Do not ignore the clamor of your adversaries, the uproar of your enemies, which rises continually.23Do not forget the voice of Your adversaries, The uproar of those who rise against You which ascends continually.
