New King James VersionHolman Christian Standard Bible
“The priests, the Levites—all the tribe of Levi—shall have no part nor inheritance with Israel; they shall eat the offerings of the LORD made by fire, and His portion.1The Levitical priests, the whole tribe of Levi, will have no portion or inheritance with Israel. They will eat the LORD's fire offerings; that is their inheritance.
Therefore they shall have no inheritance among their brethren; the LORD is their inheritance, as He said to them.2Although Levi has no inheritance among his brothers, the LORD is his inheritance, as He promised him.
“And this shall be the priest’s due from the people, from those who offer a sacrifice, whether it is bull or sheep: they shall give to the priest the shoulder, the cheeks, and the stomach.3This is the priests' share from the people who offer a sacrifice, whether it is an ox, a sheep, or a goat; the priests are to be given the shoulder, jaws, and stomach.
The firstfruits of your grain and your new wine and your oil, and the first of the fleece of your sheep, you shall give him.4You are to give him the firstfruits of your grain, new wine, and oil, and the first sheared wool of your flock.
For the LORD your God has chosen him out of all your tribes to stand to minister in the name of the LORD, him and his sons forever.5For Yahweh your God has chosen him and his sons from all your tribes to stand and minister in His name from now on.
“So if a Levite comes from any of your gates, from where he dwells among all Israel, and comes with all the desire of his mind to the place which the LORD chooses,6When a Levite leaves one of your towns where he lives in Israel and wants to go to the place the LORD chooses,
then he may serve in the name of the LORD his God as all his brethren the Levites do, who stand there before the LORD.7he may serve in the name of Yahweh his God like all his fellow Levites who minister there in the presence of the LORD.
They shall have equal portions to eat, besides what comes from the sale of his inheritance.8They will eat equal portions besides what he has received from the sale of the family estate."
“When you come into the land which the LORD your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominations of those nations.9When you enter the land the LORD your God is giving you, do not imitate the detestable customs of those nations.
There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer,10No one among you is to make his son or daughter pass through the fire, practice divination, tell fortunes, interpret omens, practice sorcery,
or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead.11cast spells, consult a medium or a familiar spirit, or inquire of the dead.
For all who do these things are an abomination to the LORD, and because of these abominations the LORD your God drives them out from before you.12Everyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD, and the LORD your God is driving out the nations before you because of these detestable things.
You shall be blameless before the LORD your God.13You must be blameless before the LORD your God.
For these nations which you will dispossess listened to soothsayers and diviners; but as for you, the LORD your God has not appointed such for you.14Though these nations you are about to drive out listen to fortune-tellers and diviners, the LORD your God has not permitted you to do this."
“The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brethren. Him you shall hear,15The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own brothers. You must listen to him.
according to all you desired of the LORD your God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, ‘Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God, nor let me see this great fire anymore, lest I die.’16This is what you requested from the LORD your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly when you said, 'Let us not continue to hear the voice of the LORD our God or see this great fire any longer, so that we will not die!'
“And the LORD said to me: ‘What they have spoken is good.17Then the LORD said to me, 'They have spoken well.
I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him.18I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers. I will put My words in his mouth, and he will tell them everything I command him.
And it shall be that whoever will not hear My words, which He speaks in My name, I will require it of him.19I will hold accountable whoever does not listen to My words that he speaks in My name.
But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in My name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.’20But the prophet who dares to speak a message in My name that I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods--that prophet must die.'
And if you say in your heart, ‘How shall we know the word which the LORD has not spoken?’—21You may say to yourself, 'How can we recognize a message the LORD has not spoken?'
when a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.22When a prophet speaks in the LORD's name, and the message does not come true or is not fulfilled, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him."
