Deuteronomy 18
NKJV Parallel ISV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New King James VersionInternational Standard Version
“The priests, the Levites—all the tribe of Levi—shall have no part nor inheritance with Israel; they shall eat the offerings of the LORD made by fire, and His portion.1"The Levitical priests, the whole tribe of Levi, will not have a portion or an inheritance within Israel. Instead, they will eat the burnt offerings of the LORD, because that is their inheritance.
Therefore they shall have no inheritance among their brethren; the LORD is their inheritance, as He said to them.2But they will not have an inheritance among their relatives, because the LORD alone is their inheritance—as he promised them."
“And this shall be the priest’s due from the people, from those who offer a sacrifice, whether it is bull or sheep: they shall give to the priest the shoulder, the cheeks, and the stomach.3"A portion of what the people offer in sacrifice, whether cattle or sheep, is to be due the priests. They must set aside the shoulder, jowls, and stomach for the priest.
The firstfruits of your grain and your new wine and your oil, and the first of the fleece of your sheep, you shall give him.4Give them the first gatherings of your grain, wine, oil, and wool from the shearing of your flock.
For the LORD your God has chosen him out of all your tribes to stand to minister in the name of the LORD, him and his sons forever.5For the LORD your God has chosen them and their descendants from among your tribes to stand and serve in the name of the LORD all their lives."
“So if a Levite comes from any of your gates, from where he dwells among all Israel, and comes with all the desire of his mind to the place which the LORD chooses,6"Any descendant of Levi who wishes to do so may come from any city or part of Israel where he resides to the place that the LORD will choose.
then he may serve in the name of the LORD his God as all his brethren the Levites do, who stand there before the LORD.7There he may serve in the name of the LORD his God. Like his fellow descendants of Levi who stand there in the LORD's presence,
They shall have equal portions to eat, besides what comes from the sale of his inheritance.8he may eat the same share as they do regardless of what he receives from his ancestral estate."
“When you come into the land which the LORD your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominations of those nations.9"When you enter the land that the LORD your God is about to give you, don't learn the detestable practices of those nations there.
There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer,10There must never be found among you anyone who sacrifices his son or daughter in fire, practices divination, interprets omens, practices sorcery,
or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead.11casts spells, or who is a medium, an occultist, or a necromancer.
For all who do these things are an abomination to the LORD, and because of these abominations the LORD your God drives them out from before you.12Whoever practices these things is detestable to the LORD, and the LORD your God will expel them before you because of these things.
You shall be blameless before the LORD your God.13You must be completely faithful to the LORD your God,
For these nations which you will dispossess listened to soothsayers and diviners; but as for you, the LORD your God has not appointed such for you.14because those nations that you are about to dispossess listen to those who practice witchcraft and divination. But the LORD does not allow you to act this way."
“The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brethren. Him you shall hear,15"The LORD your God will raise up a prophet like me for you from among your relatives. You must listen to him,
according to all you desired of the LORD your God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, ‘Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God, nor let me see this great fire anymore, lest I die.’16because this is what you asked from the LORD your God at Horeb when you were assembled together: 'Don't let us hear the voice of the LORD our God again, or even see this great fire—otherwise, we will die.'
“And the LORD said to me: ‘What they have spoken is good.17"Then the LORD told me: 'What they have suggested is good.
I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him.18I will raise up a prophet like you from among their relatives, and I will place my words in his mouth so that he may expound everything that I have commanded to them.
And it shall be that whoever will not hear My words, which He speaks in My name, I will require it of him.19But if someone will not listen to those words that the prophet speaks in my name, I will hold him accountable.
But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in My name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.’20Even then, if the prophet speaks presumptuously in my name, which I didn't authorize him to speak, or if he speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet must die.'
And if you say in your heart, ‘How shall we know the word which the LORD has not spoken?’—21Now you may ask yourselves, 'How will we be able to discern that the LORD has not spoken?'
when a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.22Whenever a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, and the oracle does not come about or the word is not fulfilled, then the LORD has not spoken it. The prophet will have spoken presumptuously, so you need not fear him."
