Therefore be imitators of God as dear children.1Γίνεσθε οὖν μιμηταὶ τοῦ Θεοῦ ὡς τέκνα ἀγαπητά
And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.2καὶ περιπατεῖτε ἐν ἀγάπῃ καθὼς καὶ Χριστὸς ἠγάπησεν ἡμᾶς* καὶ παρέδωκεν ἑαυτὸν ὑπὲρ ἡμῶν προσφορὰν καὶ θυσίαν τῷ Θεῷ εἰς ὀσμὴν εὐωδίας
But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints;3Πορνεία δὲ καὶ ἀκαθαρσία πᾶσα πλεονεξία μηδὲ ὀνομαζέσθω ἐν ὑμῖν καθὼς πρέπει ἁγίοις
neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.4καὶ αἰσχρότης καὶ μωρολογία εὐτραπελία οὐκ ἀνῆκεν ἀλλὰ μᾶλλον εὐχαριστία
For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.5τοῦτο γὰρ ἴστε γινώσκοντες ὅτι πᾶς πόρνος ἀκάθαρτος πλεονέκτης ἐστιν εἰδωλολάτρης οὐκ ἔχει κληρονομίαν ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ τοῦ Χριστοῦ καὶ Θεοῦ
Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.6Μηδεὶς ὑμᾶς ἀπατάτω κενοῖς λόγοις διὰ ταῦτα γὰρ ἔρχεται ὀργὴ τοῦ Θεοῦ ἐπὶ τοὺς υἱοὺς τῆς ἀπειθείας
Therefore do not be partakers with them.7μὴ οὖν γίνεσθε συμμέτοχοι αὐτῶν
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light8Ἦτε γάρ ποτε σκότος νῦν δὲ φῶς ἐν Κυρίῳ ὡς τέκνα φωτὸς περιπατεῖτε
(for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth),9 γὰρ καρπὸς τοῦ φωτὸς ἐν πάσῃ ἀγαθωσύνῃ καὶ δικαιοσύνῃ καὶ ἀληθείᾳ
finding out what is acceptable to the Lord.10δοκιμάζοντες τί ἐστιν εὐάρεστον τῷ Κυρίῳ
And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.11Καὶ μὴ συνκοινωνεῖτε τοῖς ἔργοις τοῖς ἀκάρποις τοῦ σκότους μᾶλλον δὲ καὶ ἐλέγχετε
For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret.12τὰ γὰρ κρυφῇ γινόμενα ὑπ’ αὐτῶν αἰσχρόν ἐστιν καὶ λέγειν
But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light.13τὰ δὲ πάντα ἐλεγχόμενα ὑπὸ τοῦ φωτὸς φανεροῦται πᾶν γὰρ τὸ φανερούμενον φῶς ἐστιν
Therefore He says: “Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light.”14διὸ λέγει Ἔγειρε καθεύδων καὶ ἀνάστα ἐκ τῶν νεκρῶν καὶ ἐπιφαύσει σοι Χριστός
See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise,15Βλέπετε οὖν ἀκριβῶς πῶς περιπατεῖτε μὴ ὡς ἄσοφοι ἀλλ’ ὡς σοφοί
redeeming the time, because the days are evil.16ἐξαγοραζόμενοι τὸν καιρόν ὅτι αἱ ἡμέραι πονηραί εἰσιν
Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.17διὰ τοῦτο μὴ γίνεσθε ἄφρονες ἀλλὰ συνίετε τί τὸ θέλημα τοῦ Κυρίου
And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit,18καὶ μὴ μεθύσκεσθε οἴνῳ ἐν ἐστιν ἀσωτία ἀλλὰ πληροῦσθε ἐν Πνεύματι
speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,19λαλοῦντες ἑαυτοῖς [ἐν] ψαλμοῖς καὶ ὕμνοις καὶ ᾠδαῖς πνευματικαῖς ᾄδοντες καὶ ψάλλοντες τῇ καρδίᾳ ὑμῶν τῷ Κυρίῳ
giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,20εὐχαριστοῦντες πάντοτε ὑπὲρ πάντων ἐν ὀνόματι τοῦ Κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ τῷ Θεῷ καὶ Πατρί
submitting to one another in the fear of God.21Ὑποτασσόμενοι ἀλλήλοις ἐν φόβῳ Χριστοῦ
Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.22Αἱ γυναῖκες τοῖς ἰδίοις ἀνδράσιν ὡς τῷ Κυρίῳ
For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body.23ὅτι ἀνήρ ἐστιν κεφαλὴ τῆς γυναικὸς ὡς καὶ Χριστὸς κεφαλὴ τῆς ἐκκλησίας αὐτὸς σωτὴρ τοῦ σώματος
Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.24ἀλλὰ ὡς ἐκκλησία ὑποτάσσεται τῷ Χριστῷ οὕτως καὶ αἱ γυναῖκες τοῖς ἀνδράσιν ἐν παντί
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her,25Οἱ ἄνδρες ἀγαπᾶτε τὰς γυναῖκας καθὼς καὶ Χριστὸς ἠγάπησεν τὴν ἐκκλησίαν καὶ ἑαυτὸν παρέδωκεν ὑπὲρ αὐτῆς
that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word,26ἵνα αὐτὴν ἁγιάσῃ καθαρίσας τῷ λουτρῷ τοῦ ὕδατος ἐν ῥήματι
that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.27ἵνα παραστήσῃ αὐτὸς ἑαυτῷ ἔνδοξον τὴν ἐκκλησίαν μὴ ἔχουσαν σπίλον ῥυτίδα τι τῶν τοιούτων ἀλλ’ ἵνα ἁγία καὶ ἄμωμος
So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself.28Οὕτως ὀφείλουσιν καὶ οἱ ἄνδρες ἀγαπᾶν τὰς ἑαυτῶν γυναῖκας ὡς τὰ ἑαυτῶν σώματα ἀγαπῶν τὴν ἑαυτοῦ γυναῖκα ἑαυτὸν ἀγαπᾷ
For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church.29οὐδεὶς γάρ ποτε τὴν ἑαυτοῦ σάρκα ἐμίσησεν ἀλλὰ ἐκτρέφει καὶ θάλπει αὐτήν καθὼς καὶ Χριστὸς τὴν ἐκκλησίαν
For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones.30ὅτι μέλη ἐσμὲν τοῦ σώματος αὐτοῦ ⧼ἐκ τῆς σαρκὸς αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐκ τῶν ὀστέων αὐτοῦ⧽
“For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.”31Ἀντὶ τούτου καταλείψει ἄνθρωπος τὸν πατέρα καὶ τὴν μητέρα καὶ προσκολληθήσεται πρὸς τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ καὶ ἔσονται οἱ δύο εἰς σάρκα μίαν
This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church.32τὸ μυστήριον τοῦτο μέγα ἐστίν ἐγὼ δὲ λέγω εἰς Χριστὸν καὶ εἰς τὴν ἐκκλησίαν
Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.33πλὴν καὶ ὑμεῖς οἱ καθ’ ἕνα ἕκαστος τὴν ἑαυτοῦ γυναῖκα οὕτως ἀγαπάτω ὡς ἑαυτόν δὲ γυνὴ ἵνα φοβῆται τὸν ἄνδρα
