So He got into a boat, crossed over, and came to His own city.1After getting into a boat, Jesus crossed to the other side and came to his own city.
Then behold, they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you.”2All at once some people brought him a paralyzed man lying on a stretcher. When Jesus saw their faith, he told the paralyzed man, "Be courageous, son! Your sins are forgiven."
And at once some of the scribes said within themselves, “This Man blasphemes!”3Then some of the scribes told themselves, "This fellow is blaspheming!"
But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts?4But Jesus, knowing what they were thinking, replied, "Why do you have such evil thoughts in your hearts?
For which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Arise and walk’?5Which is easier: to say, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Get up and walk'?
But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins” —then He said to the paralytic, “Arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.”6But so you will know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins…" he told the paralyzed man, "Get up, pick up your stretcher, and go home!"
And he arose and departed to his house.7So the man got up and went home.
Now when the multitudes saw it, they marveled and glorified God, who had given such power to men.8When the crowds saw this, they became frightened and glorified God for giving such authority to humans.
As Jesus passed on from there, He saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, “Follow Me.” So he arose and followed Him.9As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector's desk and told him, "Follow me." So he got up and followed him.
Now it happened, as Jesus sat at the table in the house, that behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with Him and His disciples.10While he was having dinner at Matthew's home, many tax collectors and sinners arrived and began eating with Jesus and his disciples.
And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to His disciples, “Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”11The Pharisees saw this and asked his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?"
When Jesus heard that, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.12When Jesus heard that, he said, "Healthy people don't need a physician, but sick people do.
But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”13Go and learn what this means: 'I want mercy and not sacrifice,' because I did not come to call righteous people, but sinners."
Then the disciples of John came to Him, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but Your disciples do not fast?”14Then John's disciples came to Jesus and asked, "Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples don't fast?"
And Jesus said to them, “Can the friends of the bridegroom mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.15Jesus asked them, "The wedding guests can't mourn as long as the groom is with them, can they? But the time will come when the groom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast."
No one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; for the patch pulls away from the garment, and the tear is made worse.16"No one patches an old garment with a piece of unshrunk cloth, because the patch pulls away from the garment, and a worse tear results.
Nor do they put new wine into old wineskins, or else the wineskins break, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But they put new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”17Nor do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst, the wine will spill out, and the skins will be ruined. Instead, they pour new wine into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved."
While He spoke these things to them, behold, a ruler came and worshiped Him, saying, “My daughter has just died, but come and lay Your hand on her and she will live.”18While Jesus was telling them these things, an official came up and fell down before him. "My daughter has just died," he said. "But come and lay your hand on her, and she will live."
So Jesus arose and followed him, and so did His disciples.19So Jesus got up and followed him, along with his disciples.
And suddenly, a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years came from behind and touched the hem of His garment.20Just then a woman who had been suffering from chronic bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the tassel of his garment,
For she said to herself, “If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well.”21because she had been saying to herself, "If I just touch his robe, I will get well."
But Jesus turned around, and when He saw her He said, “Be of good cheer, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And the woman was made well from that hour.22When Jesus turned and saw her, he said, "Be courageous, daughter! Your faith has made you well." And from that very hour the woman was well.
When Jesus came into the ruler’s house, and saw the flute players and the noisy crowd wailing,23When Jesus came to the official's house and saw the flute players and the crowd making a commotion,
He said to them, “Make room, for the girl is not dead, but sleeping.” And they ridiculed Him.24he said, "Go away! The young lady hasn't died, but is sleeping." But they ridiculed him with laughter.
But when the crowd was put outside, He went in and took her by the hand, and the girl arose.25When the crowd had been driven outside, he went in, took her by the hand, and the young lady got up.
And the report of this went out into all that land.26The news of this spread throughout that land.
When Jesus departed from there, two blind men followed Him, crying out and saying, “Son of David, have mercy on us!”27As Jesus was traveling on from there, two blind men followed him, shouting, "Have mercy on us, Son of David!"
And when He had come into the house, the blind men came to Him. And Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to Him, “Yes, Lord.”28When he had gone into the house, the blind men came to him. Jesus asked them, "Do you believe I can do this?" They told him, "Yes, Lord!"
Then He touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith let it be to you.”29Then he touched their eyes and said, "According to your faith, let it be done for you!"
And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them, saying, “See that no one knows it.”30And their eyes were opened. Then Jesus sternly told them, "See to it that nobody knows about this."
But when they had departed, they spread the news about Him in all that country.31But they went out and spread the news about him throughout that region.
As they went out, behold, they brought to Him a man, mute and demon-possessed.32As the men were going out, a man who couldn't talk because he was demon-possessed was brought to him.
And when the demon was cast out, the mute spoke. And the multitudes marveled, saying, “It was never seen like this in Israel!”33As soon as the demon had been driven out, the man began to speak. The crowds were amazed and said, "Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel!"
But the Pharisees said, “He casts out demons by the ruler of the demons.”34But the Pharisees kept saying, "He drives out demons by the ruler of demons."
Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.35Then Jesus began traveling throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every illness.
But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd.36When he saw the crowds, he was deeply moved with compassion for them, because they were troubled and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few.37Then he told his disciples, "The harvest is vast, but the workers are few.
Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”38So ask the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest."
