Now the whole earth had one language and one speech.1And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.
And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and they dwelt there.2And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.
Then they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They had brick for stone, and they had asphalt for mortar.3And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.
And they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.”4And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built.5And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.
And the LORD said, “Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them.6And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.
Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.”7Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.
So the LORD scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they ceased building the city.8So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.
Therefore its name is called Babel, because there the LORD confused the language of all the earth; and from there the LORD scattered them abroad over the face of all the earth.9Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
This is the genealogy of Shem: Shem was one hundred years old, and begot Arphaxad two years after the flood.10These are the generations of Shem: Shem was an hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood:
After he begot Arphaxad, Shem lived five hundred years, and begot sons and daughters.11And Shem lived after he begat Arphaxad five hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.
Arphaxad lived thirty-five years, and begot Salah.12And Arphaxad lived five and thirty years, and begat Salah:
After he begot Salah, Arphaxad lived four hundred and three years, and begot sons and daughters.13And Arphaxad lived after he begat Salah four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.
Salah lived thirty years, and begot Eber.14And Salah lived thirty years, and begat Eber:
After he begot Eber, Salah lived four hundred and three years, and begot sons and daughters.15And Salah lived after he begat Eber four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.
Eber lived thirty-four years, and begot Peleg.16And Eber lived four and thirty years, and begat Peleg:
After he begot Peleg, Eber lived four hundred and thirty years, and begot sons and daughters.17And Eber lived after he begat Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters.
Peleg lived thirty years, and begot Reu.18And Peleg lived thirty years, and begat Reu:
After he begot Reu, Peleg lived two hundred and nine years, and begot sons and daughters.19And Peleg lived after he begat Reu two hundred and nine years, and begat sons and daughters.
Reu lived thirty-two years, and begot Serug.20And Reu lived two and thirty years, and begat Serug:
After he begot Serug, Reu lived two hundred and seven years, and begot sons and daughters.21And Reu lived after he begat Serug two hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters.
Serug lived thirty years, and begot Nahor.22And Serug lived thirty years, and begat Nahor:
After he begot Nahor, Serug lived two hundred years, and begot sons and daughters.23And Serug lived after he begat Nahor two hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.
Nahor lived twenty-nine years, and begot Terah.24And Nahor lived nine and twenty years, and begat Terah:
After he begot Terah, Nahor lived one hundred and nineteen years, and begot sons and daughters.25And Nahor lived after he begat Terah an hundred and nineteen years, and begat sons and daughters.
Now Terah lived seventy years, and begot Abram, Nahor, and Haran.26And Terah lived seventy years, and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
This is the genealogy of Terah: Terah begot Abram, Nahor, and Haran. Haran begot Lot.27Now these are the generations of Terah: Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begat Lot.
And Haran died before his father Terah in his native land, in Ur of the Chaldeans.28And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees.
Then Abram and Nahor took wives: the name of Abram’s wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor’s wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran the father of Milcah and the father of Iscah.29And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.
But Sarai was barren; she had no child.30But Sarai was barren; she had no child.
And Terah took his son Abram and his grandson Lot, the son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, his son Abram’s wife, and they went out with them from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to the land of Canaan; and they came to Haran and dwelt there.31And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son's son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.
So the days of Terah were two hundred and five years, and Terah died in Haran.32And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran.
