The LORD also said to Moses,1The LORD spoke to Moses: "
“Give the following instructions to the entire community of Israel. You must be holy because I, the LORD your God, am holy.2Speak to the entire Israelite community and tell them: Be holy because I, Yahweh your God, am holy."
“Each of you must show great respect for your mother and father, and you must always observe my Sabbath days of rest. I am the LORD your God.3Each of you is to respect his mother and father. You are to keep My Sabbaths; I am Yahweh your God.
“Do not put your trust in idols or make metal images of gods for yourselves. I am the LORD your God.4Do not turn to idols or make cast images of gods for yourselves; I am Yahweh your God."
“When you sacrifice a peace offering to the LORD, offer it properly so you will be accepted by God.5When you offer a fellowship sacrifice to the LORD, sacrifice it so that you may be accepted.
The sacrifice must be eaten on the same day you offer it or on the next day. Whatever is left over until the third day must be completely burned up.6It is to be eaten on the day you sacrifice it or on the next day, but what remains on the third day must be burned up.
If any of the sacrifice is eaten on the third day, it will be contaminated, and I will not accept it.7If any is eaten on the third day, it is a repulsive thing; it will not be accepted.
Anyone who eats it on the third day will be punished for defiling what is holy to the LORD and will be cut off from the community.8Anyone who eats it will bear his punishment, for he has profaned what is holy to the LORD. That person must be cut off from his people."
“When you harvest the crops of your land, do not harvest the grain along the edges of your fields, and do not pick up what the harvesters drop.9When you reap the harvest of your land, you are not to reap to the very edge of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest.
It is the same with your grape crop—do not strip every last bunch of grapes from the vines, and do not pick up the grapes that fall to the ground. Leave them for the poor and the foreigners living among you. I am the LORD your God.10You must not strip your vineyard bare or gather its fallen grapes. Leave them for the poor and the foreign resident; I am Yahweh your God."
“Do not steal. “Do not deceive or cheat one another.11You must not steal. You must not act deceptively or lie to one another.
“Do not bring shame on the name of your God by using it to swear falsely. I am the LORD.12You must not swear falsely by My name, profaning the name of your God; I am Yahweh."
“Do not defraud or rob your neighbor. “Do not make your hired workers wait until the next day to receive their pay.13You must not oppress your neighbor or rob him. The wages due a hired hand must not remain with you until morning.
“Do not insult the deaf or cause the blind to stumble. You must fear your God; I am the LORD.14You must not curse the deaf or put a stumbling block in front of the blind, but you are to fear your God; I am Yahweh."
“Do not twist justice in legal matters by favoring the poor or being partial to the rich and powerful. Always judge people fairly.15You must not act unjustly when deciding a case. Do not be partial to the poor or give preference to the rich; judge your neighbor fairly.
“Do not spread slanderous gossip among your people. “Do not stand idly by when your neighbor’s life is threatened. I am the LORD.16You must not go about spreading slander among your people; you must not jeopardize your neighbor's life; I am Yahweh."
“Do not nurse hatred in your heart for any of your relatives. Confront people directly so you will not be held guilty for their sin.17You must not harbor hatred against your brother. Rebuke your neighbor directly, and you will not incur guilt because of him.
“Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against a fellow Israelite, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the LORD.18Do not take revenge or bear a grudge against members of your community, but love your neighbor as yourself; I am Yahweh."
“You must obey all my decrees. “Do not mate two different kinds of animals. Do not plant your field with two different kinds of seed. Do not wear clothing woven from two different kinds of thread.19You are to keep My statutes. You must not crossbreed two different kinds of your livestock, sow your fields with two kinds of seed, or put on a garment made of two kinds of material."
“If a man has sex with a slave girl whose freedom has never been purchased but who is committed to become another man’s wife, he must pay full compensation to her master. But since she is not a free woman, neither the man nor the woman will be put to death.20If a man has sexual intercourse with a woman who is a slave designated for another man, but she has not been redeemed or given her freedom, there must be punishment. They are not to be put to death, because she had not been freed.
The man, however, must bring a ram as a guilt offering and present it to the LORD at the entrance of the Tabernacle.21However, he must bring a ram as his restitution offering to the LORD at the entrance to the tent of meeting.
The priest will then purify him before the LORD with the ram of the guilt offering, and the man’s sin will be forgiven.22The priest will make atonement on his behalf before the LORD with the ram of the restitution offering for the sin he has committed, and he will be forgiven for the sin he committed."
“When you enter the land and plant fruit trees, leave the fruit unharvested for the first three years and consider it forbidden. Do not eat it.23When you come into the land and plant any kind of tree for food, you are to consider the fruit forbidden. It will be forbidden to you for three years; it is not to be eaten.
In the fourth year the entire crop must be consecrated to the LORD as a celebration of praise.24In the fourth year all its fruit must be consecrated as a praise offering to the LORD.
Finally, in the fifth year you may eat the fruit. If you follow this pattern, your harvest will increase. I am the LORD your God.25But in the fifth year you may eat its fruit. In this way its yield will increase for you; I am Yahweh your God."
“Do not eat meat that has not been drained of its blood. “Do not practice fortune-telling or witchcraft.26You are not to eat anything with blood in it. You are not to practice divination or sorcery.
“Do not trim off the hair on your temples or trim your beards.27You are not to cut off the hair at the sides of your head or mar the edge of your beard.
“Do not cut your bodies for the dead, and do not mark your skin with tattoos. I am the LORD.28You are not to make gashes on your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves; I am Yahweh."
“Do not defile your daughter by making her a prostitute, or the land will be filled with prostitution and wickedness.29Do not debase your daughter by making her a prostitute, or the land will be prostituted and filled with depravity.
“Keep my Sabbath days of rest, and show reverence toward my sanctuary. I am the LORD.30You must keep My Sabbaths and revere My sanctuary; I am Yahweh."
“Do not defile yourselves by turning to mediums or to those who consult the spirits of the dead. I am the LORD your God.31Do not turn to mediums or consult spiritists, or you will be defiled by them; I am Yahweh your God."
“Stand up in the presence of the elderly, and show respect for the aged. Fear your God. I am the LORD.32You are to rise in the presence of the elderly and honor the old. Fear your God; I am Yahweh."
“Do not take advantage of foreigners who live among you in your land.33When a foreigner lives with you in your land, you must not oppress him.
Treat them like native-born Israelites, and love them as you love yourself. Remember that you were once foreigners living in the land of Egypt. I am the LORD your God.34You must regard the foreigner who lives with you as the native-born among you. You are to love him as yourself, for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt; I am Yahweh your God."
“Do not use dishonest standards when measuring length, weight, or volume.35You must not be unfair in measurements of length, weight, or volume.
Your scales and weights must be accurate. Your containers for measuring dry materials or liquids must be accurate. I am the LORD your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt.36You are to have honest balances, honest weights, an honest dry measure, and an honest liquid measure; I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt.
“You must be careful to keep all of my decrees and regulations by putting them into practice. I am the LORD.”37You must keep all My statutes and all My ordinances and do them; I am Yahweh."
