1 “And you, son of man, prophesy to the mountains of Israel and say: O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the LORD. “And you, son of man, prophesy to the mountains of Israel, and say, O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the LORD. Also, thou son of man, prophesy unto the mountains of Israel, and say, Ye mountains of Israel, hear the word of the LORD: “Now you, son of man, prophesy to the mountains of Israel and say, ‘You mountains of Israel, hear the word of the LORD. “Son of man, prophesy to the mountains of Israel and say, ‘Mountains of Israel, hear the word of the LORD.
2 This is what the Lord GOD says: Because the enemy has said of you, ‘Aha! The ancient heights have become our possession,’ Thus says the Lord GOD: Because the enemy said of you, ‘Aha!’ and, ‘The ancient heights have become our possession,’ Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because the enemy hath said against you, Aha, even the ancient high places are ours in possession: This is what the Lord GOD says: “Since the enemy has spoken against you, ‘Aha!’ and, ‘The everlasting heights have become our possession,’ This is what the Sovereign LORD says: The enemy said of you, “Aha! The ancient heights have become our possession.|’
3 therefore prophesy and declare that this is what the Lord GOD says: Because they have made you desolate and have trampled you on every side, so that you became a possession of the rest of the nations and were taken up in slander by the lips of their talkers, therefore prophesy, and say, Thus says the Lord GOD: Precisely because they made you desolate and crushed you from all sides, so that you became the possession of the rest of the nations, and you became the talk and evil gossip of the people, Therefore prophesy and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because they have made <i>you</i> desolate, and swallowed you up on every side, that ye might be a possession unto the residue of the heathen, and ye are taken up in the lips of talkers, and <i>are</i> an infamy of the people: therefore prophesy and say, ‘This is what the Lord GOD says: “For good reason they have made you desolate and harassed you from every side, so that you would become a possession of the rest of the nations; and you have been taken up in the talk and the rumor of the people.”’” Therefore prophesy and say, ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Because they ravaged and crushed you from every side so that you became the possession of the rest of the nations and the object of people’s malicious talk and slander,
4 therefore, O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD. This is what the Lord GOD says to the mountains and hills, to the ravines and valleys, to the desolate ruins and abandoned cities, which have become a spoil and a mockery to the rest of the nations around you. therefore, O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD: Thus says the Lord GOD to the mountains and the hills, the ravines and the valleys, the desolate wastes and the deserted cities, which have become a prey and derision to the rest of the nations all around, Therefore, ye mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD; Thus saith the Lord GOD to the mountains, and to the hills, to the rivers, and to the valleys, to the desolate wastes, and to the cities that are forsaken, which became a prey and derision to the residue of the heathen that <i>are</i> round about; Therefore, you mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD. This is what the Lord GOD says to the mountains and to the hills, to the ravines and to the valleys, to the desolate ruins and to the abandoned cities which have become plunder and an object of ridicule to the rest of the nations which are all around— therefore, mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Sovereign LORD: This is what the Sovereign LORD says to the mountains and hills, to the ravines and valleys, to the desolate ruins and the deserted towns that have been plundered and ridiculed by the rest of the nations around you—
5 Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: Surely in My burning zeal I have spoken against the rest of the nations, and against all Edom, who took My land as their own possession with wholehearted joy and utter contempt, so that its pastureland became plunder. therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Surely I have spoken in my hot jealousy against the rest of the nations and against all Edom, who gave my land to themselves as a possession with wholehearted joy and utter contempt, that they might make its pasturelands a prey. Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Surely in the fire of my jealousy have I spoken against the residue of the heathen, and against all Idumea, which have appointed my land into their possession with the joy of all <i>their</i> heart, with despiteful minds, to cast it out for a prey. therefore the Lord GOD says this: “Certainly in the fire of My jealousy I have spoken against the rest of the nations, and against all Edom, who appropriated My land for themselves as a possession with wholehearted joy <i>and</i> with contempt of soul, in order to <i>make</i> its pastureland plunder.” this is what the Sovereign LORD says: In my burning zeal I have spoken against the rest of the nations, and against all Edom, for with glee and with malice in their hearts they made my land their own possession so that they might plunder its pastureland.’
6 Therefore, prophesy concerning the land of Israel and tell the mountains and hills, the ravines and valleys, that this is what the Lord GOD says: Behold, I have spoken in My burning zeal because you have endured the reproach of the nations. Therefore prophesy concerning the land of Israel, and say to the mountains and hills, to the ravines and valleys, Thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I have spoken in my jealous wrath, because you have suffered the reproach of the nations. Prophesy therefore concerning the land of Israel, and say unto the mountains, and to the hills, to the rivers, and to the valleys, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I have spoken in my jealousy and in my fury, because ye have borne the shame of the heathen: Therefore prophesy in regard to the land of Israel and say to the mountains and to the hills, to the ravines and to the valleys, “This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Behold, I have spoken in My jealousy and in My wrath because you have endured the insults of the nations.’ Therefore prophesy concerning the land of Israel and say to the mountains and hills, to the ravines and valleys: ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: I speak in my jealous wrath because you have suffered the scorn of the nations.
7 Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: I have sworn with an uplifted hand that surely the nations around you will endure reproach of their own. Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: I swear that the nations that are all around you shall themselves suffer reproach. Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; I have lifted up mine hand, Surely the heathen that <i>are</i> about you, they shall bear their shame. Therefore the Lord GOD says this: ‘I have sworn that the nations that are around you will certainly endure their insults themselves. Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: I swear with uplifted hand that the nations around you will also suffer scorn.
8 But you, O mountains of Israel, will produce branches and bear fruit for My people Israel, for they will soon come home. “But you, O mountains of Israel, shall shoot forth your branches and yield your fruit to my people Israel, for they will soon come home. But ye, O mountains of Israel, ye shall shoot forth your branches, and yield your fruit to my people of Israel; for they are at hand to come. But as for you, mountains of Israel, you will grow your branches and bear fruit for My people Israel; for they are about to come. “’But you, mountains of Israel, will produce branches and fruit for my people Israel, for they will soon come home.
9 For behold, I am on your side; I will turn toward you, and you will be tilled and sown. For behold, I am for you, and I will turn to you, and you shall be tilled and sown. For, behold, I <i>am</i> for you, and I will turn unto you, and ye shall be tilled and sown: For, behold, I am for you, and I will turn to you, and you will be cultivated and sown. I am concerned for you and will look on you with favor; you will be plowed and sown,
10 I will multiply the people upon you — the house of Israel in its entirety. The cities will be inhabited and the ruins rebuilt. And I will multiply people on you, the whole house of Israel, all of it. The cities shall be inhabited and the waste places rebuilt. And I will multiply men upon you, all the house of Israel, <i>even</i> all of it: and the cities shall be inhabited, and the wastes shall be builded: And I will multiply people on you, all the house of Israel, all of it; and the cities will be inhabited and the ruins will be rebuilt. and I will cause many people to live on you—yes, all of Israel. The towns will be inhabited and the ruins rebuilt.
11 I will fill you with people and animals, and they will multiply and be fruitful. I will make you as inhabited as you once were, and I will make you prosper more than before. Then you will know that I am the LORD. And I will multiply on you man and beast, and they shall multiply and be fruitful. And I will cause you to be inhabited as in your former times, and will do more good to you than ever before. Then you will know that I am the LORD. And I will multiply upon you man and beast; and they shall increase and bring fruit: and I will settle you after your old estates, and will do better <i>unto you</i> than at your beginnings: and ye shall know that I <i>am</i> the LORD. I will multiply on you people and animals, and they will increase and be fruitful; and I will populate you as you were previously, and treat you better than at the beginning. Then you will know that I am the LORD. I will increase the number of people and animals living on you, and they will be fruitful and become numerous. I will settle people on you as in the past and will make you prosper more than before. Then you will know that I am the LORD.
12 Yes, I will cause My people Israel to walk upon you; they will possess you, and you will be their inheritance, and you will no longer deprive them of their children. I will let people walk on you, even my people Israel. And they shall possess you, and you shall be their inheritance, and you shall no longer bereave them of children. Yea, I will cause men to walk upon you, <i>even</i> my people Israel; and they shall possess thee, and thou shalt be their inheritance, and thou shalt no more henceforth bereave them <i>of men</i>. Yes, I will have people—My people Israel—walk on you and possess you, so that you will become their inheritance and never again bereave them of children.’ I will cause people, my people Israel, to live on you. They will possess you, and you will be their inheritance; you will never again deprive them of their children.
13 For this is what the Lord GOD says: Because people say to you, ‘You devour men and deprive your nation of its children,’ Thus says the Lord GOD: Because they say to you, ‘You devour people, and you bereave your nation of children,’ Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because they say unto you, Thou <i>land</i> devourest up men, and hast bereaved thy nations; “The Lord GOD says this: ‘Since they say to you, “You are a devourer of people and have bereaved your nation of children,” “’This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Because some say to you, “You devour people and deprive your nation of its children,”
14 therefore you will no longer devour men or deprive your nation of its children, declares the Lord GOD. therefore you shall no longer devour people and no longer bereave your nation of children, declares the Lord GOD. Therefore thou shalt devour men no more, neither bereave thy nations any more, saith the Lord GOD. for that reason you will no longer devour people and no longer bereave your nation of children,’ declares the Lord GOD. therefore you will no longer devour people or make your nation childless, declares the Sovereign LORD.
15 I will no longer allow the taunts of the nations to be heard against you, and you will no longer endure the reproach of the peoples or cause your nation to stumble, declares the Lord GOD.” And I will not let you hear anymore the reproach of the nations, and you shall no longer bear the disgrace of the peoples and no longer cause your nation to stumble, declares the Lord GOD.” Neither will I cause <i>men</i> to hear in thee the shame of the heathen any more, neither shalt thou bear the reproach of the people any more, neither shalt thou cause thy nations to fall any more, saith the Lord GOD. I will not let you hear insults from the nations anymore, nor will you suffer disgrace from the peoples any longer, nor will you make your nation stumble any longer,” declares the Lord GOD.’” No longer will I make you hear the taunts of the nations, and no longer will you suffer the scorn of the peoples or cause your nation to fall, declares the Sovereign LORD.’”
16 Again the word of the LORD came to me, saying, The word of the LORD came to me: Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying, Again the word of the LORD came to me:
17 “Son of man, when the people of Israel lived in their land, they defiled it by their own ways and deeds. Their behavior before Me was like the uncleanness of a woman’s impurity. “Son of man, when the house of Israel lived in their own land, they defiled it by their ways and their deeds. Their ways before me were like the uncleanness of a woman in her menstrual impurity. Son of man, when the house of Israel dwelt in their own land, they defiled it by their own way and by their doings: their way was before me as the uncleanness of a removed woman. “Son of man, when the house of Israel was living on their own land, they defiled it by their ways and their deeds; their way before Me was like the uncleanness of a woman in her impurity. “Son of man, when the people of Israel were living in their own land, they defiled it by their conduct and their actions. Their conduct was like a woman’s monthly uncleanness in my sight.
18 So I poured out My wrath upon them because of the blood they had shed on the land, and because they had defiled it with their idols. So I poured out my wrath upon them for the blood that they had shed in the land, for the idols with which they had defiled it. Wherefore I poured my fury upon them for the blood that they had shed upon the land, and for their idols <i>wherewith</i> they had polluted it: Therefore I poured out My wrath on them for the blood which they had shed on the land, because they had defiled it with their idols. So I poured out my wrath on them because they had shed blood in the land and because they had defiled it with their idols.
19 I dispersed them among the nations, and they were scattered throughout the lands. I judged them according to their ways and deeds. I scattered them among the nations, and they were dispersed through the countries. In accordance with their ways and their deeds I judged them. And I scattered them among the heathen, and they were dispersed through the countries: according to their way and according to their doings I judged them. 20 And wherever they went among the nations, they profaned My holy name, because it was said of them, ‘These are the people of the LORD, yet they had to leave His land.’ But when they came to the nations, wherever they came, they profaned my holy name, in that people said of them, ‘These are the people of the LORD, and yet they had to go out of his land.’ And when they entered unto the heathen, whither they went, they profaned my holy name, when they said to them, These <i>are</i> the people of the LORD, and are gone forth out of his land. When they came to the nations where they went, they profaned My holy name, because it was said of them, ‘These are the people of the LORD, yet they have left His land.’ And wherever they went among the nations they profaned my holy name, for it was said of them, ‘These are the LORD’s people, and yet they had to leave his land.’
21 But I had concern for My holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the nations to which they had gone. But I had concern for my holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the nations to which they came. But I had pity for mine holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the heathen, whither they went. But I had concern for My holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the nations where they went. 22 Therefore tell the house of Israel that this is what the Lord GOD says: It is not for your sake that I will act, O house of Israel, but for My holy name, which you profaned among the nations to which you went. “Therefore say to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord GOD: It is not for your sake, O house of Israel, that I am about to act, but for the sake of my holy name, which you have profaned among the nations to which you came. Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; I do not <i>this</i> for your sakes, O house of Israel, but for mine holy name's sake, which ye have profaned among the heathen, whither ye went. “Therefore say to the house of Israel, ‘This is what the Lord GOD says: “It is not for your sake, house of Israel, that I am about to act, but for My holy name, which you have profaned among the nations where you went. “Therefore say to the Israelites, ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: It is not for your sake, people of Israel, that I am going to do these things, but for the sake of my holy name, which you have profaned among the nations where you have gone.
23 I will show the holiness of My great name, which has been profaned among the nations— the name you have profaned among them. Then the nations will know that I am the LORD, declares the Lord GOD, when I show My holiness in you before their eyes. And I will vindicate the holiness of my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, and which you have profaned among them. And the nations will know that I am the LORD, declares the Lord GOD, when through you I vindicate my holiness before their eyes. And I will sanctify my great name, which was profaned among the heathen, which ye have profaned in the midst of them; and the heathen shall know that I <i>am</i> the LORD, saith the Lord GOD, when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes. And I will vindicate the holiness of My great name which has been profaned among the nations, which you have profaned among them. Then the nations will know that I am the LORD,” declares the Lord GOD, “when I show Myself holy among you in their sight. I will show the holiness of my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, the name you have profaned among them. Then the nations will know that I am the LORD, declares the Sovereign LORD, when I am proved holy through you before their eyes.
24 For I will take you from among the nations and gather you out of all the countries, and I will bring you back into your own land. I will take you from the nations and gather you from all the countries and bring you into your own land. For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land. For I will take you from the nations, and gather you from all the lands; and I will bring you into your own land. “’For I will take you out of the nations; I will gather you from all the countries and bring you back into your own land.
25 I will also sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean. I will cleanse you from all your impurities and all your idols. I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols.
26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will remove your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes and to carefully observe My ordinances. 28 Then you will live in the land that I gave your forefathers; you will be My people, and I will be your God. You shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers, and you shall be my people, and I will be your God. And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God. And you will live in the land that I gave to your forefathers; so you will be My people, and I will be your God. Then you will live in the land I gave your ancestors; you will be my people, and I will be your God.
29 I will save you from all your uncleanness. I will summon the grain and make it plentiful, and I will not bring famine upon you. And I will deliver you from all your uncleannesses. And I will summon the grain and make it abundant and lay no famine upon you. I will also save you from all your uncleannesses: and I will call for the corn, and will increase it, and lay no famine upon you. Moreover, I will save you from all your uncleanness; and I will call for the grain and multiply it, and I will not bring a famine on you. I will save you from all your uncleanness. I will call for the grain and make it plentiful and will not bring famine upon you.
30 I will also make the fruit of the trees and the crops of the field plentiful, so that you will no longer bear reproach among the nations on account of famine. I will make the fruit of the tree and the increase of the field abundant, that you may never again suffer the disgrace of famine among the nations. And I will multiply the fruit of the tree, and the increase of the field, that ye shall receive no more reproach of famine among the heathen. Instead, I will multiply the fruit of the tree and the produce of the field, so that you will not receive again the disgrace of famine among the nations. I will increase the fruit of the trees and the crops of the field, so that you will no longer suffer disgrace among the nations because of famine.
31 Then you will remember your evil ways and wicked deeds, and you will loathe yourselves for your iniquities and abominations. Then you will remember your evil ways, and your deeds that were not good, and you will loathe yourselves for your iniquities and your abominations. Then shall ye remember your own evil ways, and your doings that <i>were</i> not good, and shall lothe yourselves in your own sight for your iniquities and for your abominations. 32 It is not for your sake that I will act, declares the Lord GOD— let it be known to you. Be ashamed and disgraced for your ways, O house of Israel! It is not for your sake that I will act, declares the Lord GOD; let that be known to you. Be ashamed and confounded for your ways, O house of Israel. Not for your sakes do I <i>this</i>, saith the Lord GOD, be it known unto you: be ashamed and confounded for your own ways, O house of Israel. I am not doing <i>this</i> for your sake,” declares the Lord GOD; “let <i>that</i> be known to you. Be ashamed and humiliated for your ways, house of Israel!” I want you to know that I am not doing this for your sake, declares the Sovereign LORD. Be ashamed and disgraced for your conduct, people of Israel!
33 This is what the Lord GOD says: On the day I cleanse you from all your iniquities, I will cause the cities to be resettled and the ruins to be rebuilt. “Thus says the Lord GOD: On the day that I cleanse you from all your iniquities, I will cause the cities to be inhabited, and the waste places shall be rebuilt. Thus saith the Lord GOD; In the day that I shall have cleansed you from all your iniquities I will also cause <i>you</i> to dwell in the cities, and the wastes shall be builded. ‘This is what the Lord GOD says: “On the day that I cleanse you from all your wrongdoings, I will populate the cities, and the places of ruins will be rebuilt. “’This is what the Sovereign LORD says: On the day I cleanse you from all your sins, I will resettle your towns, and the ruins will be rebuilt.
34 The desolate land will be cultivated instead of lying desolate in the sight of all who pass through. And the land that was desolate shall be tilled, instead of being the desolation that it was in the sight of all who passed by. And the desolate land shall be tilled, whereas it lay desolate in the sight of all that passed by. The desolated land will be cultivated instead of being a desolation in the sight of everyone who passes by. The desolate land will be cultivated instead of lying desolate in the sight of all who pass through it.
35 Then they will say, ‘This land that was desolate has become like the garden of Eden. The cities that were once ruined, desolate, and destroyed are now fortified and inhabited.’ And they will say, ‘This land that was desolate has become like the garden of Eden, and the waste and desolate and ruined cities are now fortified and inhabited.’ And they shall say, This land that was desolate is become like the garden of Eden; and the waste and desolate and ruined cities <i>are become</i> fenced, <i>and</i> are inhabited. And they will say, ‘This desolated land has become like the Garden of Eden; and the waste, desolated and ruined cities are fortified <i>and</i> inhabited.’ They will say, “This land that was laid waste has become like the garden of Eden; the cities that were lying in ruins, desolate and destroyed, are now fortified and inhabited.”
36 Then the nations around you that remain will know that I, the LORD, have rebuilt what was destroyed, and I have replanted what was desolate. I, the LORD, have spoken, and I will do it. Then the nations that are left all around you shall know that I am the LORD; I have rebuilt the ruined places and replanted that which was desolate. I am the LORD; I have spoken, and I will do it. Then the heathen that are left round about you shall know that I the LORD build the ruined <i>places, and</i> plant that that was desolate: I the LORD have spoken <i>it</i>, and I will do <i>it</i>. Then the nations around you that are left will know that I, the LORD, have rebuilt the ruined places <i>and</i> planted that which was desolated; I, the LORD, have spoken, and I will do it.” Then the nations around you that remain will know that I the LORD have rebuilt what was destroyed and have replanted what was desolate. I the LORD have spoken, and I will do it.’
37 This is what the Lord GOD says: Once again I will hear the plea of the house of Israel and do for them this: I will multiply their people like a flock. “Thus says the Lord GOD: This also I will let the house of Israel ask me to do for them: to increase their people like a flock. Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will yet <i>for</i> this be inquired of by the house of Israel, to do <i>it</i> for them; I will increase them with men like a flock. ‘This is what the Lord GOD says: “This too I will let the house of Israel ask Me to do for them: I will increase their people like a flock. “This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Once again I will yield to Israel’s plea and do this for them: I will make their people as numerous as sheep,
38 Like the numerous flocks for sacrifices at Jerusalem during her appointed feasts, so the ruined cities will be filled with flocks of people. Then they will know that I am the LORD.” Like the flock for sacrifices, like the flock at Jerusalem during her appointed feasts, so shall the waste cities be filled with flocks of people. Then they will know that I am the LORD.” As the holy flock, as the flock of Jerusalem in her solemn feasts; so shall the waste cities be filled with flocks of men: and they shall know that I <i>am</i> the LORD. Like the flock for sacrifices, like the flock at Jerusalem during her appointed feasts, so will the waste cities be filled with flocks of people. Then they will know that I am the LORD.”’” as numerous as the flocks for offerings at Jerusalem during her appointed festivals. So will the ruined cities be filled with flocks of people. Then they will know that I am the LORD.”
