1 Jesus got into a boat, crossed over, and came to His own town. And getting into a boat he crossed over and came to his own city. And he entered into a ship, and passed over, and came into his own city. Getting into a boat, <i>Jesus</i> crossed over <i>the Sea of Galilee</i> and came to His own city. 2 Just then some men brought to Him a paralytic lying on a mat. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Take courage, son; your sins are forgiven. And behold, some people brought to him a paralytic, lying on a bed. And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Take heart, my son; your sins are forgiven.” And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy; Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee. And they brought to Him a paralyzed man lying on a stretcher. And seeing their faith, Jesus said to the man who was paralyzed, “Take courage, son; your sins are forgiven.” Some men brought to him a paralyzed man, lying on a mat. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the man, “Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven.”
3 On seeing this, some of the scribes said to themselves, “This man is blaspheming! And behold, some of the scribes said to themselves, “This man is blaspheming.” And, behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This <i>man</i> blasphemeth. And some of the scribes said to themselves, “This man is blaspheming!” At this, some of the teachers of the law said to themselves, “This fellow is blaspheming!”
4 But Jesus knew what they were thinking and said, “Why do you harbor evil in your hearts? But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts? And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts? And Jesus, perceiving their thoughts, said, “Why are you thinking evil in your hearts? Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said, “Why do you entertain evil thoughts in your hearts?
5 Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven, or to say, ‘Get up and walk? For which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Rise and walk’? For whether is easier, to say, <i>Thy</i> sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and walk? For which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’? Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’?
6 But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins... Then He said to the paralytic, “Get up, pick up your mat, and go home. But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he then said to the paralytic— “Rise, pick up your bed and go home.” But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house. But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—then He said to the paralyzed man, “Get up, pick up your stretcher and go home.” But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the paralyzed man, “Get up, take your mat and go home.”
7 And the man got up and went home. And he rose and went home. And he arose, and departed to his house. And he got up and went home. Then the man got up and went home.
8 When the crowds saw this, they were filled with awe and glorified God, who had given such authority to men. When the crowds saw it, they were afraid, and they glorified God, who had given such authority to men. But when the multitudes saw <i>it</i>, they marvelled, and glorified God, which had given such power unto men. 9 As Jesus went on from there, He saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax booth. “Follow Me, He told him, and Matthew got up and followed Him. As Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth, and he said to him, “Follow me.” And he rose and followed him. And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him. As Jesus went on from there, He saw a man called Matthew sitting in the tax collector’s office; and He said to him, “Follow Me!” And he got up and followed Him. As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.
10 Later, as Jesus was dining at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with Him and His disciples. And as Jesus reclined at table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and were reclining with Jesus and his disciples. And it came to pass, as Jesus sat at meat in the house, behold, many publicans and sinners came and sat down with him and his disciples. Then it happened that as Jesus was reclining <i>at the table</i> in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and <i>began</i> dining with Jesus and His disciples. While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples.
11 When the Pharisees saw this, they asked His disciples, “Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners? And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” And when the Pharisees saw <i>it</i>, they said unto his disciples, Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners? And when the Pharisees saw <i>this,</i> they said to His disciples, “Why is your Teacher eating with the tax collectors and sinners?” When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
12 On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But when he heard it, he said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. But when Jesus heard <i>that</i>, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick. But when <i>Jesus</i> heard <i>this,</i> He said, “<i>It is</i> not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick. On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.
13 But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners. Go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’ For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.” But go ye and learn what <i>that</i> meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. Now go and learn what this means: ‘I DESIRE COMPASSION, RATHER THAN SACRIFICE,’ for I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
14 At that time John’s disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Why is it that we and the Pharisees fast so often, but Your disciples do not fast? Then the disciples of John came to him, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?” Then came to him the disciples of John, saying, Why do we and the Pharisees fast oft, but thy disciples fast not? Then the disciples of John came to Him, asking, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?” Then John’s disciples came and asked him, “How is it that we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples do not fast?”
15 Jesus replied, “How can the guests of the bridegroom mourn while He is with them? But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; then they will fast. And Jesus said to them, “Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast. And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? but the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then shall they fast. And Jesus said to them, “The attendants of the groom cannot mourn as long as the groom is with them, can they? But the days will come when the groom is taken away from them, and then they will fast. Jesus answered, “How can the guests of the bridegroom mourn while he is with them? The time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; then they will fast.
16 No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. For the patch will pull away from the garment, and a worse tear will result. No one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch tears away from the garment, and a worse tear is made. No man putteth a piece of new cloth unto an old garment, for that which is put in to fill it up taketh from the garment, and the rent is made worse. But no one puts a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; for the patch pulls away from the garment, and a worse tear results. “No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch will pull away from the garment, making the tear worse.
17 Neither do men pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst, the wine will spill, and the wineskins will be ruined. Instead, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved. Neither is new wine put into old wineskins. If it is, the skins burst and the wine is spilled and the skins are destroyed. But new wine is put into fresh wineskins, and so both are preserved.” Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved. Nor do <i>people</i> put new wine into old wineskins; otherwise the wineskins burst, and the wine pours out and the wineskins are ruined; but they put new wine into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved.” Neither do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”
18 While Jesus was saying these things, a synagogue leader came and knelt before Him. “My daughter has just died, he said. “But come and place Your hand on her, and she will live. While he was saying these things to them, behold, a ruler came in and knelt before him, saying, “My daughter has just died, but come and lay your hand on her, and she will live.” While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live. While He was saying these things to them, behold, a <i>synagogue</i> official came and bowed down before Him, and said, “My daughter has just died; but come and lay Your hand on her, and she will become alive again.” While he was saying this, a synagogue leader came and knelt before him and said, “My daughter has just died. But come and put your hand on her, and she will live.”
19 So Jesus got up and went with him, along with His disciples. And Jesus rose and followed him, with his disciples. And Jesus arose, and followed him, and <i>so did</i> his disciples. Jesus got up <i>from the table</i> and <i>began to</i> accompany him, along with His disciples. Jesus got up and went with him, and so did his disciples.
20 Suddenly a woman who had suffered from bleeding for twelve years came up behind Him and touched the fringe of His cloak. And behold, a woman who had suffered from a discharge of blood for twelve years came up behind him and touched the fringe of his garment, And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind <i>him</i>, and touched the hem of his garment: And behold, a woman who had been suffering from a hemorrhage for twelve years came up behind Him, and touched the border of His cloak; Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak.
21 She said to herself, “If only I touch His cloak, I will be healed. for she said to herself, “If I only touch his garment, I will be made well.” For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole. for she was saying to herself, “If I only touch His cloak, I will get well.” She said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.”
22 Jesus turned and saw her. “Take courage, daughter, He said, “your faith has healed you. And the woman was cured from that very hour. Jesus turned, and seeing her he said, “Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And instantly the woman was made well. But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour. But Jesus, turning and seeing her, said, “Daughter, take courage; your faith has made you well.” And at once the woman was made well. Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed at that moment.
23 When Jesus entered the house of the synagogue leader, He saw the flute players and the noisy crowd. And when Jesus came to the ruler’s house and saw the flute players and the crowd making a commotion, And when Jesus came into the ruler's house, and saw the minstrels and the people making a noise, When Jesus came into the official’s house and saw the flute players and the crowd in noisy disorder, When Jesus entered the synagogue leader’s house and saw the noisy crowd and people playing pipes,
24 “Go away, He told them. “ The girl is not dead, but asleep. And they laughed at Him. he said, “Go away, for the girl is not dead but sleeping.” And they laughed at him. He said unto them, Give place: for the maid is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn. He said, “Leave; for the girl has not died, but is asleep.” And they <i>began</i> laughing at Him. he said, “Go away. The girl is not dead but asleep.” But they laughed at him.
25 After the crowd had been put outside, Jesus went in and took the girl by the hand, and she got up. But when the crowd had been put outside, he went in and took her by the hand, and the girl arose. But when the people were put forth, he went in, and took her by the hand, and the maid arose. But when the crowd had been sent out, He entered and took her by the hand, and the girl got up. 27 As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed Him, crying out, “Have mercy on us, Son of David! 28 After Jesus had entered the house, the blind men came to Him. “Do you believe that I am able to do this? He asked. “Yes, Lord, they answered. When he entered the house, the blind men came to him, and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to him, “Yes, Lord.” And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord. And after He entered the house, the men who were blind came up to Him, and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to Him, “Yes, Lord.” When he had gone indoors, the blind men came to him, and he asked them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” “Yes, Lord,” they replied.
29 Then He touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith will it be done to you. Then he touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith be it done to you.” Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you. Then He touched their eyes, saying, “It shall be done for you according to your faith.” Then he touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith let it be done to you|;
30 And their eyes were opened. Jesus warned them sternly, “See that no one finds out about this! And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them, “See that no one knows about it.” And their eyes were opened; and Jesus straitly charged them, saying, See <i>that</i> no man know <i>it</i>. And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them, saying, “See that no one knows <i>about this!</i>” and their sight was restored. 31 But they went out and spread the news about Him throughout the land. But they went away and spread his fame through all that district. And when the demon had been cast out, the mute man spoke. And the crowds marveled, saying, “Never was anything like this seen in Israel.” And when the devil was cast out, the dumb spake: and the multitudes marvelled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel. And after the demon was cast out, the man who was <i>previously</i> unable to speak talked; and the crowds were amazed, <i>and were</i> saying, “Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel.” And when the demon was driven out, the man who had been mute spoke. The crowd was amazed and said, “Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel.”
34 But the Pharisees said, “It is by the prince of demons that He drives out demons. But the Pharisees said, “He casts out demons by the prince of demons.” But the Pharisees said, He casteth out devils through the prince of the devils. But the Pharisees were saying, “He casts out the demons by the ruler of the demons.” But the Pharisees said, “It is by the prince of demons that he drives out demons.”
35 Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness. And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction.
