Please run out now to meet her
This phrase indicates urgency and concern. Elisha, the prophet, is instructing his servant Gehazi to quickly approach the Shunammite woman. The urgency reflects the importance of hospitality and care in ancient Near Eastern culture, where visitors and those in distress were to be attended to promptly. This also shows Elisha's sensitivity to the needs of others, a characteristic of a true servant of God.

and ask, ‘Are you all right?
The question "Are you all right?" is a direct inquiry into the woman's well-being. In the Hebrew context, this question is about her "shalom," which encompasses peace, health, and overall welfare. This reflects the biblical principle of caring for others' holistic well-being, as seen in Philippians 2:4, which encourages looking out for the interests of others.

Is your husband all right?
The mention of the husband highlights the patriarchal structure of ancient Israelite society, where the husband was often seen as the head of the household. This question also shows the importance of family unity and the well-being of each family member, a theme echoed in Ephesians 5:25-33, which discusses the roles and responsibilities within a Christian marriage.

Is your child all right?’”
The child in question is the miraculous son given to the Shunammite woman by God through Elisha's prophecy (2 Kings 4:16-17). This question underscores the value placed on children in biblical times, as they were seen as a blessing from God (Psalm 127:3). The inquiry into the child's well-being also foreshadows the unfolding miracle, as the child had died, and the woman's faith in seeking Elisha is pivotal.

And she answered, “Everything is all right.”
The woman's response, "Everything is all right," is a statement of faith and composure. Despite her son's death, she chooses to speak words of faith, reflecting a deep trust in God's power and the prophet's ability to intercede. This mirrors the faith seen in Hebrews 11:1, which defines faith as confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. Her response can also be seen as a type of Christ, who, in the face of adversity, remained steadfast and trusting in God's plan.

What Does 2 Kings 4:26 Mean
Please run out now to meet her

• Elisha notices the Shunammite woman “from a distance” (2 Kings 4:25) and immediately sends Gehazi, showing how the Lord moves toward those in distress (cf. 2 Kings 5:10; Luke 15:20).

• Urgency in ministry reflects God’s compassion (Isaiah 30:18; James 5:16).

and ask

• Elisha models shepherd-like care—he does not assume, he inquires (Proverbs 27:23; John 21:15-17).

• Personal engagement opens the way for God’s comfort (2 Corinthians 1:4).

Are you all right?

• First concern is her own shalom—wholeness and peace (John 14:27; Philippians 4:6-7).

• God addresses the heart before He addresses the problem (Psalm 34:18).

Is your husband all right?

• The welfare of the family head matters; God’s covenant often moves through husbands/fathers (Genesis 18:19; Ephesians 5:25-28).

• Ministry that ignores family order is incomplete (1 Timothy 3:4-5).

Is your child all right?

• Elisha focuses on the miracle child he had earlier promised (2 Kings 4:16-17).

• God’s heart for children is consistent (Deuteronomy 6:6-7; Mark 10:14; 3 John 4).

And she answered

• Her restraint shows faith, not denial—she wants to speak directly to the prophet (Psalm 62:8; Isaiah 30:15).

• Faith sometimes waits for the right moment to reveal the need (Ecclesiastes 3:7).

Everything is all right.

• Literally “Shalom.” She declares peace while her son lies dead (Romans 4:20-21; Job 13:15).

• Faith speaks God’s reality over visible reality (2 Corinthians 5:7; Romans 8:28).

• Lessons:

– Peace resides in God’s character, not circumstances.

– Confident words can prepare the way for miraculous intervention (Hebrews 11:1; Mark 11:23).

summary

2 Kings 4:26 reveals a prophet’s urgent compassion and a mother’s unshakable faith. Elisha’s questions show God’s concern for every family member, while the Shunammite woman’s “Everything is all right” demonstrates trust that God will set things right before she sees how. The verse encourages believers to move quickly toward the hurting and to anchor their words in the certainty of God’s peace.

(26) Run now, I pray thee, to meet her.--This perhaps indicates the respect in which Elisha held the Shunammitess. But it may denote surprise and apprehension at an unusual visit. Hence the inquiries about each member of the family.

It is well.--She said this merely to avoid further explanation. She would open her grief to the prophet's own ear, and to none other.

Verse 26. - Run now, I pray thee, to meet her, and say unto her, Is it well with thee? is it well with thy husband? is it well with the child? Elisha feels that there must be something the matter, to account for the Shunammite's coming to him so unexpectedly. His anxiety is aroused, and, in his impatience to know what has happened, instead of waiting for the woman's arrival, he bids his servant run, and ask what is the matter. Some misfortune, he supposes, must have happened either to her, or to her husband, or to the child. And she answered, It is well. She gave, as before to her husband (ver. 23), the ambiguous answer, "Peace," intending thereby merely to put off Gehazi, and not explain herself to any one but his master.
