Israel’s Only Savior

1  וְעַתָּ֞ה (And) כֹּֽה־ (thus) אָמַ֤ר (says) יְהוָה֙ (YHWH)

בֹּרַאֲךָ֣ (the One creating you) יַעֲקֹ֔ב (O Jacob),

וְיֹצֶרְךָ֖ (and the One forming you) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (O Israel),

אַל־ (Do not); תִּירָא֙ (fear) כִּ֣י (for) גְאַלְתִּ֔יךָ (I have redeemed you)

קָרָ֥אתִי (I have called you) בְשִׁמְךָ֖ (by your name); לִי־ (unto Me) אָֽתָּה׃ (you are).

2  כִּֽי־ (When) תַעֲבֹ֤ר (you pass) בַּמַּ֙יִם֙ (through the waters),

אִתְּךָ־ (with you) אָ֔נִי (I am)

וּבַנְּהָר֖וֹת (and through the rivers),

לֹ֣א (not) יִשְׁטְפ֑וּךָ (will they engulf you)

כִּֽי־ (when) תֵלֵ֤ךְ (you walk) בְּמוֹ־ (through) אֵשׁ֙ (the fire),

לֹ֣א (not) תִכָּוֶ֔ה (will you be scorched);

וְלֶהָבָ֖ה (and the flame) לֹ֥א (not) תִבְעַר־ (will burn) בָּֽךְ׃ (you).

3  כִּ֗י (For) אֲנִי֙ (I) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ (am your God),

קְד֥וֹשׁ (the Holy One) יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (of Israel), מוֹשִׁיעֶ֑ךָ (your Savior);

נָתַ֤תִּי (I have given) כָפְרְךָ֙ (for your ransom), מִצְרַ֔יִם (Egypt)

כּ֥וּשׁ (Cush) וּסְבָ֖א (and Seba) תַּחְתֶּֽיךָ׃ (in your place).

4  מֵאֲשֶׁ֨ר (Since) יָקַ֧רְתָּ (you are precious) בְעֵינַ֛י (in My eyes), נִכְבַּ֖דְתָּ (You have been honored),

וַאֲנִ֣י (and I) אֲהַבְתִּ֑יךָ (love you)

וְאֶתֵּ֤ן (and I appoint) אָדָם֙ (man) תַּחְתֶּ֔יךָ (in place of you)

וּלְאֻמִּ֖ים (and peoples) תַּ֥חַת (in exchange for) נַפְשֶֽׁךָ׃ (your soul).

5  אַל־ (Do not); תִּירָ֖א (fear) כִּ֣י (for) אִתְּךָ־ (with you) אָ֑נִי (I am)

מִמִּזְרָח֙ (from the east), אָבִ֣יא (I will bring) זַרְעֶ֔ךָ (your seed)

וּמִֽמַּעֲרָ֖ב (and from the west); אֲקַבְּצֶֽךָּ׃ (I will gather you).

6  אֹמַ֤ר (I will say) לַצָּפוֹן֙ (to the north), תֵּ֔נִי (Give);

וּלְתֵימָ֖ן (and to the south), אַל־ (Not)

תִּכְלָ֑אִי (Restrain) הָבִ֤יאִי (bring) בָנַי֙ (My sons) מֵרָח֔וֹק (from afar),

וּבְנוֹתַ֖י (and My daughters) מִקְצֵ֥ה (from the ends) הָאָֽרֶץ׃ (of the earth);

7  כֹּ֚ל (every) הַנִּקְרָ֣א (one being called) בִשְׁמִ֔י (by My name),

וְלִכְבוֹדִ֖י (and for My glory), בְּרָאתִ֑יו (I have created him)

יְצַרְתִּ֖יו (I have formed him) אַף־ (and), עֲשִׂיתִֽיו׃ (have made him).

8  הוֹצִ֥יא (Bring forth) עַם־ (a people) עִוֵּ֖ר (blind) וְעֵינַ֣יִם (and eyes), יֵ֑שׁ (who have)

וְחֵרְשִׁ֖ים (and deaf) וְאָזְנַ֥יִם (and ears) לָֽמוֹ׃ (are unto them).

9  כָּֽל־ (All) הַגּוֹיִ֞ם (the nations) נִקְבְּצ֣וּ (will be gathered) יַחְדָּ֗ו (together),

וְיֵאָֽסְפוּ֙ (and will be assembled). לְאֻמִּ֔ים (The peoples)

מִ֤י (who) בָהֶם֙ (among them) יַגִּ֣יד (can declare) זֹ֔את (this),

וְרִֽאשֹׁנ֖וֹת (and former things)? יַשְׁמִיעֻ֑נוּ (Report to us)

יִתְּנ֤וּ (let them give) עֵֽדֵיהֶם֙ (their witnesses), וְיִצְדָּ֔קוּ (that they may be justified),

וְיִשְׁמְע֖וּ (and hear), וְיֹאמְר֥וּ (and say), אֱמֶֽת׃ (It is the truth).

10  אַתֶּ֤ם (You⁺ are) עֵדַי֙ (My witnesses), נְאֻם־ (a declaration) יְהוָ֔ה (of YHWH),

וְעַבְדִּ֖י (And My servant) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (whom) בָּחָ֑רְתִּי (I have chosen),

לְמַ֣עַן (that) תֵּ֠דְעוּ (you⁺ may know) וְתַאֲמִ֨ינוּ (and believe) לִ֤י (in Me)

וְתָבִ֙ינוּ֙ (and understand) כִּֽי־ (that) אֲנִ֣י (I am) ה֔וּא (He);

לְפָנַי֙ (before Me) לֹא־ (there was no) נ֣וֹצַר (formed), אֵ֔ל (god)

וְאַחֲרַ֖י (and after Me) לֹ֥א (none) יִהְיֶֽה׃ס (and there will be).

11  אָנֹכִ֥י (I) אָנֹכִ֖י (I am), יְהוָ֑ה (YHWH);

וְאֵ֥ין (and there is no) מִבַּלְעָדַ֖י (besides Me) מוֹשִֽׁיעַ׃ (one saving).

12  אָנֹכִ֞י (I) הִגַּ֤דְתִּי (have declared it), וְהוֹשַׁ֙עְתִּי֙ (and haved saved), וְהִשְׁמַ֔עְתִּי (and have made it heard),

וְאֵ֥ין (and there is no one) בָּכֶ֖ם (among you⁺) זָ֑ר (strange)

וְאַתֶּ֥ם (and you⁺ are) עֵדַ֛י (My witnesses), נְאֻם־ (a declaration) יְהוָ֖ה (of YHWH),

וַֽאֲנִי־ (And I am) אֵֽל׃ (God).

13  גַּם־ (Also), מִיּוֹם֙ (from today) אֲנִ֣י (I am) ה֔וּא (He);

וְאֵ֥ין (and there is no) מִיָּדִ֖י (from My hand); מַצִּ֑יל (one snatching)

אֶפְעַ֖ל (I act), וּמִ֥י (and who) יְשִׁיבֶֽנָּה׃ס (can turn it back).

A Way in the Wilderness

14  כֹּֽה־ (Thus) אָמַ֧ר (says) יְהוָ֛ה (YHWH), גֹּאַלְכֶ֖ם (your⁺ Redeemer),

קְד֣וֹשׁ (the Holy One) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (of Israel);

לְמַעַנְכֶ֞ם (For your⁺ sake) שִׁלַּ֣חְתִּי (I will send) בָבֶ֗לָה (to Babylon),

וְהוֹרַדְתִּ֤י (and bring down) בָֽרִיחִים֙ (as fugitives), כֻּלָּ֔ם (them all)

וְכַשְׂדִּ֖ים (and the Chaldeans),

בָּאֳנִיּ֥וֹת (in the ships) רִנָּתָֽם׃ (of their rejoicing).

15  אֲנִ֥י (I am) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH), קְדֽוֹשְׁכֶ֑ם (your⁺ Holy One),

בּוֹרֵ֥א (the Creator) יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (of Israel), מַלְכְּכֶֽם׃ס (your⁺ King).

16  כֹּ֚ה (Thus) אָמַ֣ר (says) יְהוָ֔ה (YHWH), הַנּוֹתֵ֥ן (the One giving) בַּיָּ֖ם (in the sea), דָּ֑רֶךְ (a way)

וּבְמַ֥יִם (waters); עַזִּ֖ים (in the mighty) נְתִיבָֽה׃ (and a path).

17  הַמּוֹצִ֥יא (The One bringing forth) רֶֽכֶב־ (the chariot) וָס֖וּס (and horse),

חַ֣יִל (the army) וְעִזּ֑וּז (and its might); יַחְדָּ֤ו (together),

יִשְׁכְּבוּ֙ (they will lie down) בַּל־ (and not) יָק֔וּמוּ (they will rise);

דָּעֲכ֖וּ (they are extinguished), כַּפִּשְׁתָּ֥ה (like a wick) כָבֽוּ׃ (they are quenched).

18  אַֽל־ (Not) תִּזְכְּר֖וּ (do remember) רִֽאשֹׁנ֑וֹת (the former things),

וְקַדְמֹנִיּ֖וֹת (and the things before) אַל־ (not) תִּתְבֹּנָֽנוּ׃ (do consider).

19  הִנְנִ֨י (Behold) עֹשֶׂ֤ה (I am doing) חֲדָשָׁה֙ (a new thing);

עַתָּ֣ה (now) תִצְמָ֔ח (it springs forth); הֲל֖וֹא (do not) תֵֽדָע֑וּהָ (you⁺ know it)

אַ֣ף (Indeed) אָשִׂ֤ים (I am making) בַּמִּדְבָּר֙ (in the wilderness), דֶּ֔רֶךְ (a way)

בִּֽישִׁמ֖וֹן (in the wasteland) נְהָרֽוֹת׃ (streams).

20  תְּכַבְּדֵ֙נִי֙ (Will honor Me) חַיַּ֣ת (the beast) הַשָּׂדֶ֔ה (of the field)

תַּנִּ֖ים (the jackals) וּבְנ֣וֹת (and daughters) יַֽעֲנָ֑ה (of the ostrich),

כִּֽי־ (because) נָתַ֨תִּי (I give) בַמִּדְבָּ֜ר (in the wilderness), מַ֗יִם (waters)

נְהָרוֹת֙ (streams) בִּֽישִׁימֹ֔ן (in the wasteland),

לְהַשְׁק֖וֹת (to give drink) עַמִּ֥י (to My people), בְחִירִֽי׃ (My chosen).

21  עַם־ (The people) זוּ֙ (this) יָצַ֣רְתִּי (I have formed) לִ֔י (for Myself)

תְּהִלָּתִ֖י (My praise) יְסַפֵּֽרוּ׃ס (they will recount).

Israel’s Unfaithfulness
(Judges 2:10–15; Jeremiah 2:23–37)

22  וְלֹא־ (And not) אֹתִ֥י (Me) קָרָ֖אתָ (you have called) יַֽעֲקֹ֑ב (O Jacob);

כִּֽי־ (for) יָגַ֥עְתָּ (you have grown weary) בִּ֖י (of Me) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (O Israel).

23  לֹֽא־ (Not) הֵבֵ֤יאתָ (have you brought) לִּי֙ (to Me) שֵׂ֣ה (sheep) עֹלֹתֶ֔יךָ (as your burnt offerings);

וּזְבָחֶ֖יךָ (and with your sacrifices). לֹ֣א (Not) כִבַּדְתָּ֑נִי (have you honored Me)

לֹ֤א (not) הֶעֱבַדְתִּ֙יךָ֙ (have I made you serve) בְּמִנְחָ֔ה (with grain offerings),

וְלֹ֥א (and not) הוֹגַעְתִּ֖יךָ (I have wearied you) בִּלְבוֹנָֽה׃ (with incense).

24  לֹא־ (Not) קָנִ֨יתָ (have you bought) לִּ֤י (for Me) בַכֶּ֙סֶף֙ (with silver), קָנֶ֔ה (sweet cane)

וְחֵ֥לֶב (and with the fat) זְבָחֶ֖יךָ (of your sacrifices); לֹ֣א (not) הִרְוִיתָ֑נִי (you have satisfied Me)

אַ֗ךְ (but) הֶעֱבַדְתַּ֙נִי֙ (you have made Me serve) בְּחַטֹּאותֶ֔יךָ (with your sins),

הוֹגַעְתַּ֖נִי (and have wearied Me) בַּעֲוֺנֹתֶֽיךָ׃ס (with your iniquities).

25  אָנֹכִ֨י (I) אָנֹכִ֥י (I am), ה֛וּא (He)

מֹחֶ֥ה (the One wiping out) פְשָׁעֶ֖יךָ (your transgressions) לְמַעֲנִ֑י (for My own sake),

וְחַטֹּאתֶ֖יךָ (and your sins) לֹ֥א (not) אֶזְכֹּֽר׃ (I will remember).

26  הַזְכִּירֵ֕נִי (Remind Me); נִשָּׁפְטָ֖ה (let us argue) יָ֑חַד (together);

סַפֵּ֥ר (give an account) אַתָּ֖ה (for yourself), לְמַ֥עַן (that) תִּצְדָּֽק׃ (you may be vindicated).

27  אָבִ֥יךָ (Your father) הָרִאשׁ֖וֹן (the first one) חָטָ֑א (sinned),

וּמְלִיצֶ֖יךָ (and your spokesmen) פָּ֥שְׁעוּ (have rebelled) בִֽי׃ (against me).

28  וַאֲחַלֵּ֖ל (And I will defile) שָׂ֣רֵי (the princes) קֹ֑דֶשׁ (of the sanctuary),

וְאֶתְּנָ֤ה (and I will devote) לַחֵ֙רֶם֙ (to destruction), יַעֲקֹ֔ב (Jacob) וְיִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (and Israel) לְגִדּוּפִֽים׃ס (to reviling).
