Unlawful Sexual Relations
(Matthew 5:27–30)

1  וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר (And spoke) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֶל־ (to) מֹשֶׁ֥ה (Moses), לֵּאמֹֽר׃ (saying), 2  דַּבֵּר֙ (Speak) אֶל־ (to) בְּנֵ֣י (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel), וְאָמַרְתָּ֖ (and you shall say) אֲלֵהֶ֑ם (to them), אֲנִ֖י (I am) יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֵיכֶֽם׃ (your⁺ God). 3  כְּמַעֲשֵׂ֧ה (According to the work) אֶֽרֶץ־ (of the land) מִצְרַ֛יִם (of Egypt), אֲשֶׁ֥ר (which) יְשַׁבְתֶּם־ (you⁺ dwelt) בָּ֖הּ (in), לֹ֣א (not) תַעֲשׂ֑וּ (you⁺ shall do). וּכְמַעֲשֵׂ֣ה (And according to the work) אֶֽרֶץ־ (of the land) כְּנַ֡עַן (of Canaan), אֲשֶׁ֣ר (where) אֲנִי֩ (I) מֵבִ֨יא (am bringing) אֶתְכֶ֥ם (you⁺) שָׁ֙מָּה֙ (there), לֹ֣א (not) תַעֲשׂ֔וּ (you⁺ shall do). וּבְחֻקֹּתֵיהֶ֖ם (And in their statutes) לֹ֥א (not) תֵלֵֽכוּ׃ (shall you⁺ walk).

4  אֶת־ (-) מִשְׁפָּטַ֧י (My judgments) תַּעֲשׂ֛וּ (you⁺ shall do) וְאֶת־ (and) חֻקֹּתַ֥י (-) תִּשְׁמְר֖וּ (you⁺ shall keep), לָלֶ֣כֶת (to walk) בָּהֶ֑ם (in them). אֲנִ֖י (I am) יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֵיכֶֽם׃ (your⁺ God). 5  וּשְׁמַרְתֶּ֤ם (And you⁺ shall keep) אֶת־ (-) חֻקֹּתַי֙ (My statutes) וְאֶת־ (and) מִשְׁפָּטַ֔י (My judgments), אֲשֶׁ֨ר (which) יַעֲשֶׂ֥ה (shall do) אֹתָ֛ם (them) הָאָדָ֖ם (the man), וָחַ֣י (and he shall live) בָּהֶ֑ם (by them). אֲנִ֖י (I am) יְהוָֽה׃ס (YHWH).

6  אִ֥ישׁ (Any) אִישׁ֙ (man) אֶל־ (to) כָּל־ (any) שְׁאֵ֣ר (close relative) בְּשָׂר֔וֹ (of his flesh) לֹ֥א (not) תִקְרְב֖וּ (shall draw near) לְגַלּ֣וֹת (to uncover) עֶרְוָ֑ה (nakedness). אֲנִ֖י (I) יְהוָֽה׃ס (am YHWH).

7  עֶרְוַ֥ת (The nakedness) אָבִ֛יךָ (of your father), וְעֶרְוַ֥ת (and the nakedness) אִמְּךָ֖ (of your mother), לֹ֣א (not) תְגַלֵּ֑ה (you shall uncover). אִמְּךָ֣ (Your mother) הִ֔וא (she is); לֹ֥א (not) תְגַלֶּ֖ה (you shall uncover) עֶרְוָתָֽהּ׃ס (her nakedness).

8  עֶרְוַ֥ת (The nakedness) אֵֽשֶׁת־ (of the wife) אָבִ֖יךָ (of your father) לֹ֣א (not) תְגַלֵּ֑ה (you shall uncover); עֶרְוַ֥ת (the nakedness) אָבִ֖יךָ (of your father) הִֽוא׃ס (it is).

9  עֶרְוַ֨ת (The nakedness) אֲחֽוֹתְךָ֤ (of your sister), בַת־ (the daughter) אָבִ֙יךָ֙ (of your father), א֣וֹ (or) בַת־ (the daughter) אִמֶּ֔ךָ (of your mother)— מוֹלֶ֣דֶת (born) בַּ֔יִת (at home) א֖וֹ (or) מוֹלֶ֣דֶת (born) ח֑וּץ (outside it)— לֹ֥א (not) תְגַלֶּ֖ה (you shall uncover) עֶרְוָתָֽן׃ס (their nakedness).

10  עֶרְוַ֤ת (The nakedness) בַּת־ (of the daughter) בִּנְךָ֙ (of your son) א֣וֹ (or) בַֽת־ (of the daughter) בִּתְּךָ֔ (of your daughter)— לֹ֥א (not) תְגַלֶּ֖ה (you shall uncover) עֶרְוָתָ֑ן (their nakedness); כִּ֥י (for) עֶרְוָתְךָ֖ (your own nakedness) הֵֽנָּה׃ס (they are).

11  עֶרְוַ֨ת (The nakedness) בַּת־ (of the daughter) אֵ֤שֶׁת (of the wife) אָבִ֙יךָ֙ (of your father), מוֹלֶ֣דֶת (begotten) אָבִ֔יךָ (of your father)— אֲחוֹתְךָ֖ (your sister) הִ֑וא (she is)— לֹ֥א (not) תְגַלֶּ֖ה (you shall uncover) עֶרְוָתָֽהּ׃ס (her nakedness).

12  עֶרְוַ֥ת (The nakedness) אֲחוֹת־ (of the sister) אָבִ֖יךָ (of your father) לֹ֣א (not) תְגַלֵּ֑ה (you shall uncover); שְׁאֵ֥ר (a close relative) אָבִ֖יךָ (of your father) הִֽוא׃ס (she is).

13  עֶרְוַ֥ת (The nakedness) אֲחֽוֹת־ (of the sister) אִמְּךָ֖ (of your mother) לֹ֣א (not) תְגַלֵּ֑ה (you shall uncover), כִּֽי־ (for) שְׁאֵ֥ר (a close relative) אִמְּךָ֖ (of your mother) הִֽוא׃ס (she is).

14  עֶרְוַ֥ת (The nakedness) אֲחִֽי־ (of the brother) אָבִ֖יךָ (of your father) לֹ֣א (not) תְגַלֵּ֑ה (you shall uncover). אֶל־ (To) אִשְׁתּוֹ֙ (his wife) לֹ֣א (not) תִקְרָ֔ב (you shall draw near); דֹּדָֽתְךָ֖ (your aunt) הִֽוא׃ס (she is).

15  עֶרְוַ֥ת (The nakedness) כַּלָּֽתְךָ֖ (of your daughter-in-law) לֹ֣א (not) תְגַלֵּ֑ה (you shall uncover); אֵ֤שֶׁת (the wife) בִּנְךָ֙ (your son) הִ֔וא (she is). לֹ֥א (Not) תְגַלֶּ֖ה (you shall uncover) עֶרְוָתָֽהּ׃ס (her nakedness).

16  עֶרְוַ֥ת (The nakedness) אֵֽשֶׁת־ (of the wife) אָחִ֖יךָ (of your brother) לֹ֣א (not) תְגַלֵּ֑ה (you shall uncover); עֶרְוַ֥ת (the nakedness) אָחִ֖יךָ (of your brother) הִֽוא׃ס (it is).

17  עֶרְוַ֥ת (The nakedness) אִשָּׁ֛ה (of a woman) וּבִתָּ֖הּ (and her daughter) לֹ֣א (not) תְגַלֵּ֑ה (you shall uncover)— אֶֽת־ (-) בַּת־ (the daughter) בְּנָ֞הּ (of her son) וְאֶת־ (and) בַּת־ (the daughter) בִּתָּ֗הּ (of her daughter) לֹ֤א (not) תִקַּח֙ (shall you take), לְגַלּ֣וֹת (to uncover) עֶרְוָתָ֔הּ (her nakedness). שַׁאֲרָ֥ה (Close relatives) הֵ֖נָּה (they are); זִמָּ֥ה (wickedness) הִֽוא (it is).

18  וְאִשָּׁ֥ה (And a woman) אֶל־ (to) אֲחֹתָ֖הּ (her sister) לֹ֣א (and not) תִקָּ֑ח (shall you take) לִצְרֹ֗ר (as a rival), לְגַלּ֧וֹת (to uncover) עֶרְוָתָ֛הּ (her nakedness) עָלֶ֖יהָ (beside her) בְּחַיֶּֽיהָ׃ (in her life).

19  וְאֶל־ (And to) אִשָּׁ֖ה (a woman) בְּנִדַּ֣ת (in the menstruation) טֻמְאָתָ֑הּ (of her uncleanness) לֹ֣א (not) תִקְרַ֔ב (you shall draw near) לְגַלּ֖וֹת (to uncover) עֶרְוָתָֽהּ׃ (her nakedness).

20  וְאֶל־ (And to) אֵ֙שֶׁת֙ (the wife) עֲמִֽיתְךָ֔ (of your neighbor) לֹא־ (not) תִתֵּ֥ן (shall you give) שְׁכָבְתְּךָ֖ (your lying), לְזָ֑רַע (to seed) לְטָמְאָה־ (to defile yourself) בָֽהּ׃ (with her).

21  וּמִֽזַּרְעֲךָ֥ (And from your seed) לֹא־ (not) תִתֵּ֖ן (shall you give) לְהַעֲבִ֣יר (to pass over) לַמֹּ֑לֶךְ (to the Molech); וְלֹ֧א (and not) תְחַלֵּ֛ל (shall you profane) אֶת־ (-) שֵׁ֥ם (the name) אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ (of your God). אֲנִ֥י (I am) יְהוָֽה׃ (YHWH).

22  וְאֶ֨ת־ (And with) זָכָ֔ר (a male) לֹ֥א (not) תִשְׁכַּ֖ב (you shall lie) מִשְׁכְּבֵ֣י (the lyings) אִשָּׁ֑ה (of a woman); תּוֹעֵבָ֖ה (an abomination) הִֽוא׃ (it is).

23  וּבְכָל־ (And with any) בְּהֵמָ֛ה (animal) לֹא־ (not) תִתֵּ֥ן (shall you give) שְׁכָבְתְּךָ֖ (your lyings) לְטָמְאָה־ (to defile yourself) בָ֑הּ (with it); וְאִשָּׁ֗ה (and a woman) לֹֽא־ (not) תַעֲמֹ֞ד (shall stand) לִפְנֵ֧י (before the face) בְהֵמָ֛ה (of an animal) לְרִבְעָ֖הּ (to lie with it). תֶּ֥בֶל (A perversion) הֽוּא׃ (it is).

24  אַל־ (Not) תִּֽטַּמְּא֖וּ (do defile yourselves) בְּכָל־ (with any) אֵ֑לֶּה (of these things), כִּ֤י (for) בְכָל־ (by all) אֵ֙לֶּה֙ (these) נִטְמְא֣וּ (have defiled themselves) הַגּוֹיִ֔ם (the nations) אֲשֶׁר־ (which) אֲנִ֥י (I am) מְשַׁלֵּ֖חַ (sending away) מִפְּנֵיכֶֽם׃ (from before your⁺ faces). 25  וַתִּטְמָ֣א (And is defiled) הָאָ֔רֶץ (the land); וָאֶפְקֹ֥ד (and I visit the punishment) עֲוֺנָ֖הּ (of its iniquity) עָלֶ֑יהָ (upon it), וַתָּקִ֥א (and vomits out) הָאָ֖רֶץ (the land) אֶת־ (-) יֹשְׁבֶֽיהָ׃ (those dwelling in it).

26  וּשְׁמַרְתֶּ֣ם (And shall keep) אַתֶּ֗ם (you⁺) אֶת־ (-) חֻקֹּתַי֙ (My statutes) וְאֶת־ (and) מִשְׁפָּטַ֔י (My judgments), וְלֹ֣א (and not) תַעֲשׂ֔וּ (shall you⁺ do) מִכֹּ֥ל (from all) הַתּוֹעֵבֹ֖ת (of the abominations) הָאֵ֑לֶּה (these), הָֽאֶזְרָ֔ח (the native) וְהַגֵּ֖ר (and the sojourner) הַגָּ֥ר (who is sojourning) בְּתוֹכְכֶֽם׃ (in your⁺ midst)— 27  כִּ֚י (for) אֶת־ (-) כָּל־ (all) הַתּוֹעֵבֹ֣ת (the abominations) הָאֵ֔ל (these) עָשׂ֥וּ (have done) אַנְשֵֽׁי־ (the men) הָאָ֖רֶץ (of the land) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (who were) לִפְנֵיכֶ֑ם (before your⁺ face), וַתִּטְמָ֖א (and was defiled) הָאָֽרֶץ׃ (the land)— 28  וְלֹֽא־ (and not) תָקִ֤יא (will vomit out) הָאָ֙רֶץ֙ (the land) אֶתְכֶ֔ם (you⁺) בְּטַֽמַּאֲכֶ֖ם (when you⁺ defile it) אֹתָ֑הּ (-), כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר (as) קָאָ֛ה (it vomited out) אֶת־ (-) הַגּ֖וֹי (the nation) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that was) לִפְנֵיכֶֽם׃ (before your⁺ faces).

29  כִּ֚י (For) כָּל־ (anyone) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (who) יַעֲשֶׂ֔ה (does) מִכֹּ֥ל (from all) הַתּוֹעֵב֖וֹת (of the abominations) הָאֵ֑לֶּה (these)— וְנִכְרְת֛וּ (then shall be cut off) הַנְּפָשׁ֥וֹת (the souls) הָעֹשֹׂ֖ת (who do them) מִקֶּ֥רֶב (from among) עַמָּֽם׃ (their people). 30  וּשְׁמַרְתֶּ֣ם (And you⁺ shall keep) אֶת־ (-) מִשְׁמַרְתִּ֗י (My charge) לְבִלְתִּ֨י (to not) עֲשׂ֜וֹת (do) מֵחֻקּ֤וֹת (from the statutes) הַתּֽוֹעֵבֹת֙ (of the abominations) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) נַעֲשׂ֣וּ (have been done) לִפְנֵיכֶ֔ם (before your⁺ faces), וְלֹ֥א (and not) תִֽטַּמְּא֖וּ (shall you⁺ defile yourselves) בָּהֶ֑ם (by them). אֲנִ֖י (I am) יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֵיכֶֽם׃פ (your⁺ God).
