The Order of the Camps

1  וַיְדַבֵּ֣ר (And spoke) יְהוָ֔ה (YHWH) אֶל־ (to) מֹשֶׁ֥ה (Moses) וְאֶֽל־ (and) אַהֲרֹ֖ן (Aaron), לֵאמֹֽר׃ (saying), 2  אִ֣ישׁ (Each man) עַל־ (under) דִּגְל֤וֹ (his own standard), בְאֹתֹת֙ (beside the emblems) לְבֵ֣ית (of house) אֲבֹתָ֔ם (of his father), יַחֲנ֖וּ (shall camp) בְּנֵ֣י (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (of Israel) מִנֶּ֕גֶד (some distance) סָבִ֥יב (from) לְאֹֽהֶל־ (the Tent) מוֹעֵ֖ד (of Meeting) יַחֲנֽוּ׃ (they shall camp).

3  וְהַחֹנִים֙ (And the ones camping) קֵ֣דְמָה (on the east side) מִזְרָ֔חָה (toward the rising of the sun) דֶּ֛גֶל (of the standard) מַחֲנֵ֥ה (of the camp) יְהוּדָ֖ה (of Judah) לְצִבְאֹתָ֑ם (by their hosts):

וְנָשִׂיא֙ (And the leader) לִבְנֵ֣י (of the sons) יְהוּדָ֔ה (of Judah) נַחְשׁ֖וֹן (is Nahshon) בֶּן־ (son) עַמִּינָדָֽב׃ (of Amminadab), 4  וּצְבָא֖וֹ (and his host) וּפְקֻדֵיהֶ֑ם (and was numbered at) אַרְבָּעָ֧ה (four) וְשִׁבְעִ֛ים (and seventy) אֶ֖לֶף (thousand) וְשֵׁ֥שׁ (and six) מֵאֽוֹת׃ (hundred).

5  וְהַחֹנִ֥ים (And the ones camping) עָלָ֖יו (next to him) מַטֵּ֣ה (are the tribe) יִשָּׂשכָ֑ר (of Issachar), וְנָשִׂיא֙ (and the leader) לִבְנֵ֣י (of the sons) יִשָּׂשכָ֔ר (of Issachar). נְתַנְאֵ֖ל (Is Nethanel) בֶּן־ (son) צוּעָֽר׃ (of Zuar). 6  וּצְבָא֖וֹ (And his army), וּפְקֻדָ֑יו (and was numbered at), אַרְבָּעָ֧ה (four) וַחֲמִשִּׁ֛ים (and fifty) אֶ֖לֶף (thousand) וְאַרְבַּ֥ע (and four) מֵאֽוֹת׃ס (hundred).

7  מַטֵּ֖ה (Then the tribe) זְבוּלֻ֑ן (of Zebulun), וְנָשִׂיא֙ (and the leader) לִבְנֵ֣י (of the sons) זְבוּלֻ֔ן (of Zebulun). אֱלִיאָ֖ב (Is Eliab) בֶּן־ (son) חֵלֹֽן׃ (of Helon). 8  וּצְבָא֖וֹ (And his army), וּפְקֻדָ֑יו (and was numbered at), שִׁבְעָ֧ה (seven) וַחֲמִשִּׁ֛ים (and fifty) אֶ֖לֶף (thousand) וְאַרְבַּ֥ע (and four) מֵאֽוֹת׃ (hundred)

9  כָּֽל־ (all) הַפְּקֻדִ֞ים (who were numbered) לְמַחֲנֵ֣ה (of the forces with) יְהוּדָ֗ה (Judah) מְאַ֨ת (a hundred) אֶ֜לֶף (thousand) וּשְׁמֹנִ֥ים (and eighty) אֶ֛לֶף (thousand) וְשֵֽׁשֶׁת־ (and six) אֲלָפִ֥ים (thousand) וְאַרְבַּע־ (and four) מֵא֖וֹת (hundred), לְצִבְאֹתָ֑ם (according to their armies). רִאשֹׁנָ֖ה (First) יִסָּֽעוּ׃ס (they shall set out).

10  דֶּ֣גֶל (The standard) מַחֲנֵ֧ה (of the forces with) רְאוּבֵ֛ן (Reuben) תֵּימָ֖נָה (is on the south side), לְצִבְאֹתָ֑ם (according to their armies),

וְנָשִׂיא֙ (and the leader) לִבְנֵ֣י (of the sons) רְאוּבֵ֔ן (of Reuben), אֱלִיצ֖וּר (is Elizur) בֶּן־ (son) שְׁדֵיאֽוּר׃ (of Shedeur). 11  וּצְבָא֖וֹ (And his army), וּפְקֻדָ֑יו (and was numbered at), שִׁשָּׁ֧ה (six) וְאַרְבָּעִ֛ים (and forty) אֶ֖לֶף (thousand) וַחֲמֵ֥שׁ (and five) מֵאֽוֹת׃ (hundred).

12  וְהַחוֹנִ֥ם (And those who camp) עָלָ֖יו (next to him) מַטֵּ֣ה (is the tribe) שִׁמְע֑וֹן (of Simeon), וְנָשִׂיא֙ (and the leader) לִבְנֵ֣י (of the sons) שִׁמְע֔וֹן (of Simeon), שְׁלֻמִיאֵ֖ל (is Shelumiel) בֶּן־ (son) צוּרִֽי־ (of) שַׁדָּֽי׃ (Zurishaddai). 13  וּצְבָא֖וֹ (And his army), וּפְקֻדֵיהֶ֑ם (and was numbered at), תִּשְׁעָ֧ה (nine) וַחֲמִשִּׁ֛ים (and fifty) אֶ֖לֶף (thousand) וּשְׁלֹ֥שׁ (and three) מֵאֽוֹת׃ (hundred)

14  וְמַטֵּ֖ה (and the tribe) גָּ֑ד (of Gad), וְנָשִׂיא֙ (and the leader) לִבְנֵ֣י (of the sons) גָ֔ד (of Gad), אֶלְיָסָ֖ף (is Eliasaph) בֶּן־ (son) רְעוּאֵֽל׃ (of Reuel). 15  וּצְבָא֖וֹ (And his army), וּפְקֻדֵיהֶ֑ם (and was numbered at), חֲמִשָּׁ֤ה (five) וְאַרְבָּעִים֙ (and forty) אֶ֔לֶף (thousand) וְשֵׁ֥שׁ (and six) מֵא֖וֹת (hundred) וַחֲמִשִּֽׁים׃ (and fifty)

16  כָּֽל־ (all) הַפְּקֻדִ֞ים (who were numbered) לְמַחֲנֵ֣ה (of the forces with) רְאוּבֵ֗ן (Reuben) מְאַ֨ת (were a hundred) אֶ֜לֶף (thousand) וְאֶחָ֨ד (and one) וַחֲמִשִּׁ֥ים (and fifty) אֶ֛לֶף (thousand) וְאַרְבַּע־ (and four) מֵא֥וֹת (hundred) וַחֲמִשִּׁ֖ים (and fifty), לְצִבְאֹתָ֑ם (according to their armies). וּשְׁנִיִּ֖ם (And second) יִסָּֽעוּ׃ס (they shall set out).

17  וְנָסַ֧ע (And shall set out) אֹֽהֶל־ (the Tent) מוֹעֵ֛ד (of Meeting) מַחֲנֵ֥ה (with the camp) הַלְוִיִּ֖ם (of the Levites) בְּת֣וֹךְ (in the middle) הַֽמַּחֲנֹ֑ת (of the camps); כַּאֲשֶׁ֤ר (as) יַחֲנוּ֙ (they camp), כֵּ֣ן (so) יִסָּ֔עוּ (they shall set out), אִ֥ישׁ (every man) עַל־ (in) יָד֖וֹ (his place), לְדִגְלֵיהֶֽם׃ס (by their standards).

18  דֶּ֣גֶל (Is the standard) מַחֲנֵ֥ה (of the forces with) אֶפְרַ֛יִם (Ephraim) לְצִבְאֹתָ֖ם (according to their armies) יָ֑מָּה (on the west side),

וְנָשִׂיא֙ (and the leader) לִבְנֵ֣י (of the sons) אֶפְרַ֔יִם (of Ephraim), אֱלִישָׁמָ֖ע (is Elishama) בֶּן־ (son) עַמִּיהֽוּד׃ (of Ammihud). 19  וּצְבָא֖וֹ (And his army), וּפְקֻדֵיהֶ֑ם (and was numbered at), אַרְבָּעִ֥ים (forty) אֶ֖לֶף (thousand) וַחֲמֵ֥שׁ (and five) מֵאֽוֹת׃ (hundred)

20  וְעָלָ֖יו (and Next to him) מַטֵּ֣ה (is the tribe) מְנַשֶּׁ֑ה (of Manasseh), וְנָשִׂיא֙ (and the leader) לִבְנֵ֣י (of the sons) מְנַשֶּׁ֔ה (of Manasseh), גַּמְלִיאֵ֖ל (is Gamaliel) בֶּן־ (son) פְּדָהצֽוּר׃ (of Pedahzur). 21  וּצְבָא֖וֹ (And his army), וּפְקֻדֵיהֶ֑ם (and was numbered at) שְׁנַ֧יִם (two) וּשְׁלֹשִׁ֛ים (and thirty) אֶ֖לֶף (thousand) וּמָאתָֽיִם׃ (and two hundred)

22  וּמַטֵּ֖ה (and is the tribe) בִּנְיָמִ֑ן (of Benjamin), וְנָשִׂיא֙ (and the leader) לִבְנֵ֣י (of the sons) בִנְיָמִ֔ן (of Benjamin), אֲבִידָ֖ן (is Abidan) בֶּן־ (son) גִּדְעֹנִֽי׃ (of Gideoni). 23  וּצְבָא֖וֹ (And his army), וּפְקֻדֵיהֶ֑ם (and was numbered at), חֲמִשָּׁ֧ה (five) וּשְׁלֹשִׁ֛ים (and thirty) אֶ֖לֶף (thousand) וְאַרְבַּ֥ע (and four) מֵאֽוֹת׃ (hundred)

24  כָּֽל־ (all) הַפְּקֻדִ֞ים (who were numbered) לְמַחֲנֵ֣ה (of the forces with) אֶפְרַ֗יִם (Ephraim) מְאַ֥ת (were a hundred) אֶ֛לֶף (thousand) וּשְׁמֹֽנַת־ (and eight) אֲלָפִ֥ים (thousand) וּמֵאָ֖ה (and a hundred), לְצִבְאֹתָ֑ם (according to their armies). וּשְׁלִשִׁ֖ים (And the third) יִסָּֽעוּ׃ס (they shall be to set out).

25  דֶּ֣גֶל (The standard) מַחֲנֵ֥ה (of the forces with) דָ֛ן (Dan) צָפֹ֖נָה (is on the north side), לְצִבְאֹתָ֑ם (according to their armies),

וְנָשִׂיא֙ (and the leader) לִבְנֵ֣י (of the sons) דָ֔ן (of Dan), אֲחִיעֶ֖זֶר (is Ahiezer) בֶּן־ (son) עַמִּֽישַׁדָּֽי׃ (of Ammishaddai). 26  וּצְבָא֖וֹ (And his army), וּפְקֻדֵיהֶ֑ם (and was numbered at), שְׁנַ֧יִם (two) וְשִׁשִּׁ֛ים (and sixty) אֶ֖לֶף (thousand) וּשְׁבַ֥ע (and seven) מֵאֽוֹת׃ (hundred).

27  וְהַחֹנִ֥ים (And those who camp) עָלָ֖יו (next to him) מַטֵּ֣ה (are the tribe) אָשֵׁ֑ר (of Asher), וְנָשִׂיא֙ (and the leader) לִבְנֵ֣י (of the sons) אָשֵׁ֔ר (of Asher), פַּגְעִיאֵ֖ל (is Pagiel) בֶּן־ (son) עָכְרָֽן׃ (of Ocran). 28  וּצְבָא֖וֹ (And his army), וּפְקֻדֵיהֶ֑ם (and was numbered at), אֶחָ֧ד (one) וְאַרְבָּעִ֛ים (and forty) אֶ֖לֶף (thousand) וַחֲמֵ֥שׁ (and five) מֵאֽוֹת׃ (hundred).

29  וּמַטֵּ֖ה (And is the tribe) נַפְתָּלִ֑י (of Naphtali), וְנָשִׂיא֙ (and the leader) לִבְנֵ֣י (of the sons) נַפְתָּלִ֔י (of Naphtali), אֲחִירַ֖ע (is Ahira) בֶּן־ (son) עֵינָֽן׃ (of Enan). 30  וּצְבָא֖וֹ (And his army), וּפְקֻדֵיהֶ֑ם (and was numbered at), שְׁלֹשָׁ֧ה (three) וַחֲמִשִּׁ֛ים (and fifty) אֶ֖לֶף (thousand) וְאַרְבַּ֥ע (and four) מֵאֽוֹת׃ (hundred).

31  כָּל־ (All) הַפְּקֻדִים֙ (who were numbered) לְמַ֣חֲנֵה (of the forces with) דָ֔ן (Dan) מְאַ֣ת (were a hundred) אֶ֗לֶף (thousand) וְשִׁבְעָ֧ה (and seven) וַחֲמִשִּׁ֛ים (and fifty) אֶ֖לֶף (thousand) וְשֵׁ֣שׁ (and six) מֵא֑וֹת (hundred). לָאַחֲרֹנָ֥ה (Last) יִסְע֖וּ (they shall set out) לְדִגְלֵיהֶֽם׃פ (with their standards).

32  אֵ֛לֶּה (These are) פְּקוּדֵ֥י (the ones who were numbered) בְנֵֽי־ (of the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (of Israel) לְבֵ֣ית (by the houses) אֲבֹתָ֑ם (of their fathers); כָּל־ (all were) פְּקוּדֵ֤י (who were numbered) הַֽמַּחֲנֹת֙ (of the forces) לְצִבְאֹתָ֔ם (according to their armies) שֵׁשׁ־ (six) מֵא֥וֹת (hundred) אֶ֙לֶף֙ (thousand) וּשְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת (and three) אֲלָפִ֔ים (thousand) וַחֲמֵ֥שׁ (and five) מֵא֖וֹת (hundred) וַחֲמִשִּֽׁים׃ (and fifty). 33  וְהַ֨לְוִיִּ֔ם (And the Levites) לֹ֣א (not) הָתְפָּקְד֔וּ (were numbered) בְּת֖וֹךְ (in the midst) בְּנֵ֣י (of the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (of Israel), כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר (as) צִוָּ֥ה (commanded) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) מֹשֶֽׁה׃ (Moses).

34  וַֽיַּעֲשׂ֖וּ (And did) בְּנֵ֣י (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (of Israel) כְּ֠כֹל (according to all) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) צִוָּ֨ה (commanded) יְהוָ֜ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) מֹשֶׁ֗ה (Moses). כֵּֽן־ (And) חָנ֤וּ (they camped) לְדִגְלֵיהֶם֙ (by their standards), וְכֵ֣ן (and) נָסָ֔עוּ (they broke camp), אִ֥ישׁ (each one) לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֖יו (by his family), עַל־ (according to) בֵּ֥ית (houses) אֲבֹתָֽיו׃ (of their fathers).
