"Tell your children how you went and stood at the foot of the mountain which was covered with thick clouds of dark smoke and fire blazing up to the sky.

And you came to the foot of the mount, which burned even unto heaven: and there was darkness, and a cloud and obscurity in it.
Deuteronomy 5:23 But you, after you heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness, and saw the mountain burn, came to me, all the princes of the tribes and the elders, and you said:
Exodus 19:16-18 And now the third day was come, and the morning appeared: and behold thunders began to be heard, and lightning to flash, and a very thick cloud to cover the mount, and the noise of the trumpet sounded exceeding loud; and the people that was in the camp, feared. . . .
Exodus 20:18,19 And all the people saw the voices and the flames, and the sound of the trumpet, and the mount smoking; and being terrified and struck with fear, they stood afar off, . . .

You heard the voice of his words, but you saw not any form at all.…
For you are not come to a mountain that might be touched and a burning fire and a whirlwind and darkness and storm,
And the sound of a trumpet and the voice of words, which they that had excused themselves, that the word might not be spoken to them.
The Lord said to him: Lo, now will I come to thee in the darkness of a cloud, that the people may hear me speaking to thee, and may believe thee for ever. And Moses told the words of the people to the Lord.
And all Mount Sinai was on a smoke: because the Lord was come down upon it in fire, and the smoke arose from it as out of a furnace: and all the mount was terrible.
And the Lord spoke to you from the midst of the fire. You heard the voice of his words, but you saw not any form at all.
And he made darkness his cover, his pavilion round about him: dark waters in the clouds of the air.
Clouds and darkness are round about him: justice and judgment are the establishment of his throne.
