Remember, O LORD, what has happened to us. Look and see our disgrace!1Remember, O LORD, what has befallen us; Look, and see our reproach!
Our inheritance has been turned over to strangers, our houses to foreigners.2Our inheritance has been turned over to strangers, Our houses to aliens.
We have become fatherless orphans; our mothers are widows.3We have become orphans without a father, Our mothers are like widows.
We must buy the water we drink; our wood comes at a price.4We have to pay for our drinking water, Our wood comes to us at a price.
We are closely pursued; we are weary and find no rest.5Our pursuers are at our necks; We are worn out, there is no rest for us.
We submitted to Egypt and Assyria to get enough bread.6We have submitted to Egypt and Assyria to get enough bread.
Our fathers sinned and are no more, but we bear their punishment.7Our fathers sinned, and are no more; It is we who have borne their iniquities.
Slaves rule over us; there is no one to deliver us from their hands.8Slaves rule over us; There is no one to deliver us from their hand.
We get our bread at the risk of our lives because of the sword in the wilderness.9We get our bread at the risk of our lives Because of the sword in the wilderness.
Our skin is as hot as an oven with fever from our hunger.10Our skin has become as hot as an oven, Because of the burning heat of famine.
Women have been ravished in Zion, virgins in the cities of Judah.11They ravished the women in Zion, The virgins in the cities of Judah.
Princes have been hung up by their hands; elders receive no respect.12Princes were hung by their hands; Elders were not respected.
Young men toil at millstones; boys stagger under loads of wood.13Young men worked at the grinding mill, And youths stumbled under loads of wood.
The elders have left the city gate; the young men have stopped their music.14Elders are gone from the gate, Young men from their music.
Joy has left our hearts; our dancing has turned to mourning.15The joy of our hearts has ceased; Our dancing has been turned into mourning.
The crown has fallen from our head. Woe to us, for we have sinned!16The crown has fallen from our head; Woe to us, for we have sinned!
Because of this, our hearts are faint; because of these, our eyes grow dim—17Because of this our heart is faint, Because of these things our eyes are dim;
because of Mount Zion, which lies desolate, patrolled by foxes.18Because of Mount Zion which lies desolate, Foxes prowl in it.
You, O LORD, reign forever; Your throne endures from generation to generation.19You, O LORD, rule forever; Your throne is from generation to generation.
Why have You forgotten us forever? Why have You forsaken us for so long?20Why do You forget us forever? Why do You forsake us so long?
Restore us to Yourself, O LORD, so we may return; renew our days as of old,21Restore us to You, O LORD, that we may be restored; Renew our days as of old,
unless You have utterly rejected us and remain angry with us beyond measure.22Unless You have utterly rejected us And are exceedingly angry with us.
