Psalm 109
ESV Parallel CSB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
English Standard VersionChristian Standard Bible
Be not silent, O God of my praise!1God of my praise, do not be silent.
For wicked and deceitful mouths are opened against me, speaking against me with lying tongues.2For wicked and deceitful mouths open against me; they speak against me with lying tongues.
They encircle me with words of hate, and attack me without cause.3They surround me with hateful words and attack me without cause.
In return for my love they accuse me, but I give myself to prayer.4In return for my love they accuse me, but I continue to pray.
So they reward me evil for good, and hatred for my love.5They repay me evil for good, and hatred for my love.
Appoint a wicked man against him; let an accuser stand at his right hand.6Set a wicked person over him; let an accuser stand at his right hand.
When he is tried, let him come forth guilty; let his prayer be counted as sin!7When he is judged, let him be found guilty, and let his prayer be counted as sin.
May his days be few; may another take his office!8Let his days be few; let another take over his position.
May his children be fatherless and his wife a widow!9Let his children be fatherless and his wife a widow.
May his children wander about and beg, seeking food far from the ruins they inhabit!10Let his children wander as beggars, searching for food far from their demolished homes.
May the creditor seize all that he has; may strangers plunder the fruits of his toil!11Let a creditor seize all he has; let strangers plunder what he has worked for.
Let there be none to extend kindness to him, nor any to pity his fatherless children!12Let no one show him kindness, and let no one be gracious to his fatherless children.
May his posterity be cut off; may his name be blotted out in the second generation!13Let the line of his descendants be cut off; let their name be blotted out in the next generation.
May the iniquity of his fathers be remembered before the LORD, and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out!14Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered before the LORD, and do not let his mother's sin be blotted out.
Let them be before the LORD continually, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth!15Let their sins always remain before the LORD, and let him remove all memory of them from the earth.
For he did not remember to show kindness, but pursued the poor and needy and the brokenhearted, to put them to death.16For he did not think to show kindness, but pursued the suffering, needy, and brokenhearted in order to put them to death.
He loved to curse; let curses come upon him! He did not delight in blessing; may it be far from him!17He loved cursing--let it fall on him; he took no delight in blessing--let it be far from him.
He clothed himself with cursing as his coat; may it soak into his body like water, like oil into his bones!18He wore cursing like his coat--let it enter his body like water and go into his bones like oil.
May it be like a garment that he wraps around him, like a belt that he puts on every day!19Let it be like a robe he wraps around himself, like a belt he always wears.
May this be the reward of my accusers from the LORD, of those who speak evil against my life!20Let this be the LORD's payment to my accusers, to those who speak evil against me.
But you, O GOD my Lord, deal on my behalf for your name’s sake; because your steadfast love is good, deliver me!21But you, LORD, my Lord, deal kindly with me for your name's sake; because your faithful love is good, rescue me.
For I am poor and needy, and my heart is stricken within me.22For I am suffering and needy; my heart is wounded within me.
I am gone like a shadow at evening; I am shaken off like a locust.23I fade away like a lengthening shadow; I am shaken off like a locust.
My knees are weak through fasting; my body has become gaunt, with no fat.24My knees are weak from fasting, and my body is emaciated.
I am an object of scorn to my accusers; when they see me, they wag their heads.25I have become an object of ridicule to my accusers; when they see me, they shake their heads in scorn.
Help me, O LORD my God! Save me according to your steadfast love!26Help me, LORD my God; save me according to your faithful love
Let them know that this is your hand; you, O LORD, have done it!27so they may know that this is your hand and that you, LORD, have done it.
Let them curse, but you will bless! They arise and are put to shame, but your servant will be glad!28Though they curse, you will bless. When they rise up, they will be put to shame, but your servant will rejoice.
May my accusers be clothed with dishonor; may they be wrapped in their own shame as in a cloak!29My accusers will be clothed with disgrace; they will wear their shame like a cloak.
With my mouth I will give great thanks to the LORD; I will praise him in the midst of the throng.30I will fervently thank the LORD with my mouth; I will praise him in the presence of many.
For he stands at the right hand of the needy one, to save him from those who condemn his soul to death.31For he stands at the right hand of the needy to save him from those who would condemn him.
