1And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James, and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain by themselves.1Καὶ μεθ’ ἡμέρας ἓξ παραλαμβάνει Ἰησοῦς τὸν Πέτρον καὶ Ἰάκωβον καὶ Ἰωάννην τὸν ἀδελφὸν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀναφέρει αὐτοὺς εἰς ὄρος ὑψηλὸν κατ’ ἰδίαν
2And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light.2καὶ μετεμορφώθη ἔμπροσθεν αὐτῶν καὶ ἔλαμψεν τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ ὡς ἥλιος τὰ δὲ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ ἐγένετο λευκὰ ὡς τὸ φῶς
3And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him.3Καὶ ἰδοὺ ὤφθη αὐτοῖς Μωϋσῆς καὶ Ἠλίας συλλαλοῦντες* μετ’ αὐτοῦ
4And Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah.”4ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ Πέτρος εἶπεν τῷ Ἰησοῦ Κύριε καλόν ἐστιν ἡμᾶς ὧδε εἶναι εἰ θέλεις ποιήσω ὧδε τρεῖς σκηνάς σοὶ μίαν καὶ Μωϋσεῖ μίαν καὶ Ἠλίᾳ μίαν
5He was still speaking when, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.”5Ἔτι αὐτοῦ λαλοῦντος ἰδοὺ νεφέλη φωτεινὴ ἐπεσκίασεν αὐτούς καὶ ἰδοὺ φωνὴ ἐκ τῆς νεφέλης λέγουσα Οὗτός ἐστιν Υἱός μου ἀγαπητός ἐν εὐδόκησα ἀκούετε αὐτοῦ
6When the disciples heard this, they fell on their faces and were terrified.6καὶ ἀκούσαντες οἱ μαθηταὶ ἔπεσαν ἐπὶ πρόσωπον αὐτῶν καὶ ἐφοβήθησαν σφόδρα
7But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Rise, and have no fear.”7Καὶ προσῆλθεν Ἰησοῦς καὶ ἁψάμενος αὐτῶν εἶπεν Ἐγέρθητε καὶ μὴ φοβεῖσθε
8And when they lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.8ἐπάραντες δὲ τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς αὐτῶν οὐδένα εἶδον εἰ μὴ αὐτὸν Ἰησοῦν μόνον
9And as they were coming down the mountain, Jesus commanded them, “Tell no one the vision, until the Son of Man is raised from the dead.”9Καὶ καταβαινόντων αὐτῶν ἐκ τοῦ ὄρους ἐνετείλατο αὐτοῖς Ἰησοῦς λέγων Μηδενὶ εἴπητε τὸ ὅραμα ἕως οὗ Υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐκ νεκρῶν ἐγερθῇ
10And the disciples asked him, “Then why do the scribes say that first Elijah must come?”10Καὶ ἐπηρώτησαν αὐτὸν οἱ μαθηταὶ λέγοντες Τί οὖν οἱ γραμματεῖς λέγουσιν ὅτι Ἠλίαν δεῖ ἐλθεῖν πρῶτον
11He answered, “Elijah does come, and he will restore all things.11 δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν Ἠλίας μὲν ἔρχεται καὶ ἀποκαταστήσει πάντα
12But I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but did to him whatever they pleased. So also the Son of Man will certainly suffer at their hands.”12λέγω δὲ ὑμῖν ὅτι Ἠλίας ἤδη ἦλθεν καὶ οὐκ ἐπέγνωσαν αὐτὸν ἀλλὰ* ἐποίησαν ἐν αὐτῷ ὅσα ἠθέλησαν οὕτως καὶ Υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου μέλλει πάσχειν ὑπ’ αὐτῶν
13Then the disciples understood that he was speaking to them of John the Baptist.13τότε συνῆκαν οἱ μαθηταὶ ὅτι περὶ Ἰωάννου τοῦ Βαπτιστοῦ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς
14And when they came to the crowd, a man came up to him and, kneeling before him,14Καὶ ἐλθόντων πρὸς τὸν ὄχλον προσῆλθεν αὐτῷ ἄνθρωπος γονυπετῶν αὐτὸν
15said, “Lord, have mercy on my son, for he has seizures and he suffers terribly. For often he falls into the fire, and often into the water.15καὶ λέγων Κύριε ἐλέησόν μου τὸν υἱόν ὅτι σεληνιάζεται καὶ κακῶς πάσχει* πολλάκις γὰρ πίπτει εἰς τὸ πῦρ καὶ πολλάκις εἰς τὸ ὕδωρ
16And I brought him to your disciples, and they could not heal him.”16καὶ προσήνεγκα αὐτὸν τοῖς μαθηταῖς σου καὶ οὐκ ἠδυνήθησαν αὐτὸν θεραπεῦσαι
17And Jesus answered, “O faithless and twisted generation, how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you? Bring him here to me.”17Ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν γενεὰ ἄπιστος καὶ διεστραμμένη ἕως πότε μεθ’ ὑμῶν ἔσομαι ἕως πότε ἀνέξομαι ὑμῶν φέρετέ μοι αὐτὸν ὧδε
18And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him, and the boy was healed instantly.18καὶ ἐπετίμησεν αὐτῷ Ἰησοῦς καὶ ἐξῆλθεν ἀπ’ αὐτοῦ τὸ δαιμόνιον καὶ ἐθεραπεύθη παῖς ἀπὸ τῆς ὥρας ἐκείνης
19Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?”19Τότε προσελθόντες οἱ μαθηταὶ τῷ Ἰησοῦ κατ’ ἰδίαν εἶπον Διὰ τί ἡμεῖς οὐκ ἠδυνήθημεν ἐκβαλεῖν αὐτό
20He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.”20 δὲ λέγει αὐτοῖς Διὰ τὴν ὀλιγοπιστίαν ὑμῶν ἀμὴν γὰρ λέγω ὑμῖν ἐὰν ἔχητε πίστιν ὡς κόκκον σινάπεως ἐρεῖτε τῷ ὄρει τούτῳ Μετάβα ἔνθεν ἐκεῖ καὶ μεταβήσεται καὶ οὐδὲν ἀδυνατήσει ὑμῖν
2121⧼Tοῦτο δὲ τὸ γένος οὐκ ἐκπορεύεται εἰ μὴ ἐν προσευχῇ καὶ νηστείᾳ⧽
22As they were gathering in Galilee, Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands of men,22Συστρεφομένων δὲ αὐτῶν ἐν τῇ Γαλιλαίᾳ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Ἰησοῦς Μέλλει Υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου παραδίδοσθαι εἰς χεῖρας ἀνθρώπων
23and they will kill him, and he will be raised on the third day.” And they were greatly distressed.23καὶ ἀποκτενοῦσιν αὐτόν καὶ τῇ τρίτῃ ἡμέρᾳ ἐγερθήσεται καὶ ἐλυπήθησαν σφόδρα
24When they came to Capernaum, the collectors of the two-drachma tax went up to Peter and said, “Does your teacher not pay the tax?”24Ἐλθόντων δὲ αὐτῶν εἰς Καφαρναοὺμ προσῆλθον οἱ τὰ δίδραχμα λαμβάνοντες τῷ Πέτρῳ καὶ εἶπαν διδάσκαλος ὑμῶν οὐ τελεῖ ‹τὰ› δίδραχμα
25He said, “Yes.” And when he came into the house, Jesus spoke to him first, saying, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do kings of the earth take toll or tax? From their sons or from others?”25Λέγει Ναί Καὶ ἐλθόντα εἰς τὴν οἰκίαν προέφθασεν αὐτὸν Ἰησοῦς λέγων Τί σοι δοκεῖ Σίμων οἱ βασιλεῖς τῆς γῆς ἀπὸ τίνων λαμβάνουσιν τέλη κῆνσον ἀπὸ τῶν υἱῶν αὐτῶν ἀπὸ τῶν ἀλλοτρίων
26And when he said, “From others,” Jesus said to him, “Then the sons are free.26Εἰπόντος δέ Ἀπὸ τῶν ἀλλοτρίων ἔφη αὐτῷ Ἰησοῦς Ἄρα¦Γε ἐλεύθεροί εἰσιν οἱ υἱοί
27However, not to give offense to them, go to the sea and cast a hook and take the first fish that comes up, and when you open its mouth you will find a shekel. Take that and give it to them for me and for yourself.”27ἵνα δὲ μὴ σκανδαλίσωμεν αὐτούς πορευθεὶς εἰς θάλασσαν βάλε ἄγκιστρον καὶ τὸν ἀναβάντα πρῶτον ἰχθὺν ἆρον καὶ ἀνοίξας τὸ στόμα αὐτοῦ εὑρήσεις στατῆρα ἐκεῖνον λαβὼν δὸς αὐτοῖς ἀντὶ ἐμοῦ καὶ σοῦ
