Holman Christian Standard BibleNew International Version
For the choir director. A Davidic psalm. God of my praise, do not be silent. 1For the director of music. Of David. A psalm. My God, whom I praise, do not remain silent,
For wicked and deceitful mouths open against me; they speak against me with lying tongues. 2for people who are wicked and deceitful have opened their mouths against me; they have spoken against me with lying tongues.
They surround me with hateful words and attack me without cause. 3With words of hatred they surround me; they attack me without cause.
In return for my love they accuse me, but I continue to pray. 4In return for my friendship they accuse me, but I am a man of prayer.
They repay me evil for good, and hatred for my love. 5They repay me evil for good, and hatred for my friendship.
Set a wicked person over him; let an accuser stand at his right hand. 6Appoint someone evil to oppose my enemy; let an accuser stand at his right hand.
When he is judged, let him be found guilty, and let his prayer be counted as sin. 7When he is tried, let him be found guilty, and may his prayers condemn him.
Let his days be few; let another take over his position. 8May his days be few; may another take his place of leadership.
Let his children be fatherless and his wife a widow. 9May his children be fatherless and his wife a widow.
Let his children wander as beggars, searching for food far from their demolished homes. 10May his children be wandering beggars; may they be driven from their ruined homes.
Let a creditor seize all he has; let strangers plunder what he has worked for. 11May a creditor seize all he has; may strangers plunder the fruits of his labor.
Let no one show him kindness, and let no one be gracious to his fatherless children. 12May no one extend kindness to him or take pity on his fatherless children.
Let the line of his descendants be cut off; let their name be blotted out in the next generation. 13May his descendants be cut off, their names blotted out from the next generation.
Let his ancestors' guilt be remembered before the LORD, and do not let his mother's sin be blotted out. 14May the iniquity of his fathers be remembered before the LORD; may the sin of his mother never be blotted out.
Let their sins always remain before the LORD, and let Him erase all memory of them from the earth. 15May their sins always remain before the LORD, that he may blot out their name from the earth.
For he did not think to show kindness, but pursued the afflicted, poor, and brokenhearted in order to put them to death. 16For he never thought of doing a kindness, but hounded to death the poor and the needy and the brokenhearted.
He loved cursing--let it fall on him; he took no delight in blessing--let it be far from him. 17He loved to pronounce a curse-- may it come back on him. He found no pleasure in blessing-- may it be far from him.
He wore cursing like his coat-- let it enter his body like water and go into his bones like oil. 18He wore cursing as his garment; it entered into his body like water, into his bones like oil.
Let it be like a robe he wraps around himself, like a belt he always wears. 19May it be like a cloak wrapped about him, like a belt tied forever around him.
Let this be the LORD's payment to my accusers, to those who speak evil against me. 20May this be the LORD's payment to my accusers, to those who speak evil of me.
But You, Yahweh my Lord, deal kindly with me because of Your name; deliver me because of the goodness of Your faithful love. 21But you, Sovereign LORD, help me for your name's sake; out of the goodness of your love, deliver me.
For I am afflicted and needy; my heart is wounded within me. 22For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me.
I fade away like a lengthening shadow; I am shaken off like a locust. 23I fade away like an evening shadow; I am shaken off like a locust.
My knees are weak from fasting, and my body is emaciated. 24My knees give way from fasting; my body is thin and gaunt.
I have become an object of ridicule to my accusers; when they see me, they shake their heads in scorn. 25I am an object of scorn to my accusers; when they see me, they shake their heads.
Help me, LORD my God; save me according to Your faithful love 26Help me, LORD my God; save me according to your unfailing love.
so they may know that this is Your hand and that You, LORD, have done it. 27Let them know that it is your hand, that you, LORD, have done it.
Though they curse, You will bless. When they rise up, they will be put to shame, but Your servant will rejoice. 28While they curse, may you bless; may those who attack me be put to shame, but may your servant rejoice.
My accusers will be clothed with disgrace; they will wear their shame like a cloak. 29May my accusers be clothed with disgrace and wrapped in shame as in a cloak.
I will fervently thank the LORD with my mouth; I will praise Him in the presence of many. 30With my mouth I will greatly extol the LORD; in the great throng of worshipers I will praise him.
For He stands at the right hand of the needy to save him from those who would condemn him. 31For he stands at the right hand of the needy, to save their lives from those who would condemn them.
