Hallelujah! Give thanks to the LORD, since he is good, for his gracious love exists forever.1Praise the LORD! Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, and his loyal love endures!
Who can fully describe the mighty acts of the LORD or proclaim all his praises?2Who can adequately recount the LORD's mighty acts, or relate all his praiseworthy deeds?
How happy are those who enforce justice, who live righteously all the time.3How blessed are those who promote justice, and do what is right all the time!
Remember me, LORD, when you show favor to your people. Visit us with your deliverance,4Remember me, O LORD, when you show favor to your people! Pay attention to me, when you deliver,
to witness the prosperity of your chosen ones, to rejoice in your nation's joy, to glory in your inheritance.5so I may see the prosperity of your chosen ones, rejoice along with your nation, and boast along with the people who belong to you.
We have sinned, along with our ancestors; we have committed iniquity and wickedness.6We have sinned like our ancestors; we have done wrong, we have done evil.
In Egypt, our ancestors neither comprehended your awesome deeds nor remembered your abundant gracious love. Instead, they rebelled beside the sea, the Reed Sea.7Our ancestors in Egypt failed to appreciate your miraculous deeds, they failed to remember your many acts of loyal love, and they rebelled at the sea, by the Red Sea.
He delivered for the sake of his name, to make his power known.8Yet he delivered them for the sake of his reputation, that he might reveal his power.
He shouted at the Reed Sea and it dried up; and led them through the sea as though through a desert.9He shouted at the Red Sea and it dried up; he led them through the deep water as if it were a desert.
He delivered them from the power of their foe; redeeming them from the power of their enemy.10He delivered them from the power of the one who hated them, and rescued them from the power of the enemy.
The water overwhelmed their enemies, so that not one of them survived. 11The water covered their enemies; not even one of them survived.
Then they believed his word and sung his praise.12They believed his promises; they sang praises to him.
But they quickly forgot his deeds and did not wait for his counsel.13They quickly forgot what he had done; they did not wait for his instructions.
They were overwhelmed with craving in the wilderness, so God tested them in the wasteland.14In the wilderness they had an insatiable craving for meat; they challenged God in the desert.
God granted them their request, but sent leanness into their lives.15He granted their request, then struck them with a disease.
They were envious of Moses in the camp, and of Aaron, the holy one of the LORD.16In the camp they resented Moses, and Aaron, the LORD's holy priest.
The earth opened and swallowed Dathan, closing over Abiram's clan.17The earth opened up and swallowed Dathan; it engulfed the group led by Abiram.
Then a fire burned among their company, a flame that set the wicked ablaze.18Fire burned their group; the flames scorched the wicked.
They fashioned a calf at Horeb and worshipped a carved image.19They made an image of a calf at Horeb, and worshiped a metal idol.
They exchanged their glory with the image of a grass-eating bull.20They traded their majestic God for the image of an ox that eats grass.
They forgot God their Savior, who performed great things in Egypt—21They rejected the God who delivered them, the one who performed great deeds in Egypt,
awesome deeds in the land of Ham, astonishing deeds at the Reed Sea.22amazing feats in the land of Ham, mighty acts by the Red Sea.
He would have destroyed them but for Moses, his chosen one, who stood in the breach before him to avert his destructive wrath.23He threatened to destroy them, but Moses, his chosen one, interceded with him and turned back his destructive anger.
They rejected the desirable land, and they didn't trust his promise.24They rejected the fruitful land; they did not believe his promise.
They murmured in their tents, and didn't listen to the voice of the LORD.25They grumbled in their tents; they did not obey the LORD.
So he swore an oath concerning them— that he would cause them to die in the wilderness,26So he made a solemn vow that he would make them die in the desert,
to cause their children to perish among the nations and be scattered among many lands.27make their descendants die among the nations, and scatter them among foreign lands.
For they adopted the worship of Baal Peor and ate sacrifices offered to the dead.28They worshiped Baal of Peor, and ate sacrifices offered to the dead.
They had provoked anger by their deeds, so that a plague broke out against them.29They made the LORD angry by their actions, and a plague broke out among them.
But Phinehas intervened and prayed so that the plague was restrained.30Phinehas took a stand and intervened, and the plague subsided.
And it was credited to him as a righteous act, from generation to generation—to eternity.31This brought him a reward, an eternal gift.
They provoked wrath at the waters of Meribah, and Moses suffered on account of them.32They made him angry by the waters of Meribah, and Moses suffered because of them,
For they rebelled against him, so that he spoke thoughtlessly with his lips.33for they aroused his temper, and he spoke rashly.
They never destroyed the people, as the LORD had commanded them.34They did not destroy the nations, as the LORD had commanded them to do.
Instead, they mingled among the nations and learned their ways. 35They mixed in with the nations and learned their ways.
They worshipped their idols, and this became a trap for them.36They worshiped their idols, which became a snare to them.
They sacrificed their sons and daughters to demons.37They sacrificed their sons and daughters to demons.
They shed innocent blood— the blood of their sons and daughters— whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan, thereby polluting the land with blood.38They shed innocent blood--the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan. The land was polluted by bloodshed.
Therefore, they became unclean because of what they did; they have acted like whores by their evil deeds.39They were defiled by their deeds, and unfaithful in their actions.
The LORD's anger burned against his people, so that he despised his own inheritance.40So the LORD was angry with his people and despised the people who belong to him.
He turned them over to domination by nations where those who hated them ruled over them.41He handed them over to the nations, and those who hated them ruled over them.
Their enemies oppressed them, so that they were humiliated by their power.42Their enemies oppressed them; they were subject to their authority.
He delivered them many times, but they demonstrated rebellion by their evil plans; therefore they sunk deep in their sins.43Many times he delivered them, but they had a rebellious attitude, and degraded themselves by their sin.
Yet when he saw their distress and heard their cries for help, 44Yet he took notice of their distress, when he heard their cry for help.
he remembered his covenant with them, and so relented according to the greatness of his gracious love.45He remembered his covenant with them, and relented because of his great loyal love.
He caused all their captors to show compassion toward them.46He caused all their conquerors to have pity on them.
Deliver us, LORD our God, gather us from among the nations so we may praise your holy name and rejoice in praising you.47Deliver us, O LORD, our God! Gather us from among the nations! Then we will give thanks to your holy name, and boast about your praiseworthy deeds.
Blessed are you, LORD God of Israel, from eternity to eternity; Let all the people say, "Amen!" Hallelujah!48The LORD God of Israel deserves praise, in the future and forevermore. Let all the people say, "We agree! Praise the LORD!"
