And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power.1Then He said to them, "I assure you: There are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God come in power."
And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them.2After six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John and led them up on a high mountain by themselves to be alone. He was transformed in front of them,
And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them.3and His clothes became dazzling--extremely white as no launderer on earth could whiten them.
And there appeared unto them Elias with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus.4Elijah appeared to them with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus.
And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.5Then Peter said to Jesus, "Rabbi, it's good for us to be here! Let us make three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah"--
For he wist not what to say; for they were sore afraid.6because he did not know what he should say, since they were terrified.
And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.7A cloud appeared, overshadowing them, and a voice came from the cloud: This is My beloved Son; listen to Him!
And suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no man any more, save Jesus only with themselves.8Then suddenly, looking around, they no longer saw anyone with them except Jesus alone.
And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of man were risen from the dead.9As they were coming down from the mountain, He ordered them to tell no one what they had seen until the Son of Man had risen from the dead.
And they kept that saying with themselves, questioning one with another what the rising from the dead should mean.10They kept this word to themselves, discussing what "rising from the dead" meant.
And they asked him, saying, Why say the scribes that Elias must first come?11Then they began to question Him, "Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?"
And he answered and told them, Elias verily cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be set at nought.12"Elijah does come first and restores everything," He replied. "How then is it written about the Son of Man that He must suffer many things and be treated with contempt?
But I say unto you, That Elias is indeed come, and they have done unto him whatsoever they listed, as it is written of him.13But I tell you that Elijah really has come, and they did whatever they pleased to him, just as it is written about him."
And when he came to his disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and the scribes questioning with them.14When they came to the disciples, they saw a large crowd around them and scribes disputing with them.
And straightway all the people, when they beheld him, were greatly amazed, and running to him saluted him.15All of a sudden, when the whole crowd saw Him, they were amazed and ran to greet Him.
And he asked the scribes, What question ye with them?16Then He asked them, "What are you arguing with them about?"
And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit;17Out of the crowd, one man answered Him, "Teacher, I brought my son to You. He has a spirit that makes him unable to speak.
And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not.18Wherever it seizes him, it throws him down, and he foams at the mouth, grinds his teeth, and becomes rigid. So I asked Your disciples to drive it out, but they couldn't."
He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me.19He replied to them, "You unbelieving generation! How long will I be with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring him to Me."
And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming.20So they brought him to Him. When the spirit saw Him, it immediately convulsed the boy. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth.
And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child.21"How long has this been happening to him?" Jesus asked his father." From childhood," he said. "
And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us.22And many times it has thrown him into fire or water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us."
Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.23Then Jesus said to him, "'If You can? Everything is possible to the one who believes."
And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.24Immediately the father of the boy cried out, "I do believe! Help my unbelief."
When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.25When Jesus saw that a crowd was rapidly coming together, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, "You mute and deaf spirit, I command you: come out of him and never enter him again!"
And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead.26Then it came out, shrieking and convulsing him violently. The boy became like a corpse, so that many said, "He's dead."
But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.27But Jesus, taking him by the hand, raised him, and he stood up.
And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out?28After He went into a house, His disciples asked Him privately, "Why couldn't we drive it out?"
And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.29And He told them, "This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting."
And they departed thence, and passed through Galilee; and he would not that any man should know it.30Then they left that place and made their way through Galilee, but He did not want anyone to know it.
For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day.31For He was teaching His disciples and telling them, "The Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of men. They will kill Him, and after He is killed, He will rise three days later."
But they understood not that saying, and were afraid to ask him.32But they did not understand this statement, and they were afraid to ask Him.
And he came to Capernaum: and being in the house he asked them, What was it that ye disputed among yourselves by the way?33Then they came to Capernaum. When He was in the house, He asked them, "What were you arguing about on the way?"
But they held their peace: for by the way they had disputed among themselves, who should be the greatest.34But they were silent, because on the way they had been arguing with one another about who was the greatest.
And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all.35Sitting down, He called the Twelve and said to them, "If anyone wants to be first, he must be last of all and servant of all."
And he took a child, and set him in the midst of them: and when he had taken him in his arms, he said unto them,36Then He took a child, had him stand among them, and taking him in His arms, He said to them,
Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me.37"Whoever welcomes one little child such as this in My name welcomes Me. And whoever welcomes Me does not welcome Me, but Him who sent Me."
And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us.38John said to Him, "Teacher, we saw someone driving out demons in Your name, and we tried to stop him because he wasn't following us."
But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me.39"Don't stop him," said Jesus, "because there is no one who will perform a miracle in My name who can soon afterward speak evil of Me.
For he that is not against us is on our part.40For whoever is not against us is for us.
For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.41And whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because of My name, since you belong to the Messiah--I assure you: He will never lose his reward.
And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea.42"But whoever causes the downfall of one of these little ones who believe in Me--it would be better for him if a heavy millstone were hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea.
And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:43And if your hand causes your downfall, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than to have two hands and go to hell--the unquenchable fire,
Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.44where Their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.
And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:45And if your foot causes your downfall, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame than to have two feet and be thrown into hell-- the unquenchable fire,
Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.46 where Their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.
And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire:47And if your eye causes your downfall, gouge it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell,
Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.48where Their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.
For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.49For everyone will be salted with fire.
Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.50Salt is good, but if the salt should lose its flavor, how can you make it salty? Have salt among yourselves and be at peace with one another."
