Psalm 73
NASB Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New American Standard Bible 1995English Standard Version
A Psalm of Asaph. Surely God is good to Israel, To those who are pure in heart!1Truly God is good to Israel, to those who are pure in heart.
But as for me, my feet came close to stumbling, My steps had almost slipped.2But as for me, my feet had almost stumbled, my steps had nearly slipped.
For I was envious of the arrogant As I saw the prosperity of the wicked.3For I was envious of the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
For there are no pains in their death, And their body is fat.4For they have no pangs until death; their bodies are fat and sleek.
They are not in trouble as other men, Nor are they plagued like mankind.5They are not in trouble as others are; they are not stricken like the rest of mankind.
Therefore pride is their necklace; The garment of violence covers them.6Therefore pride is their necklace; violence covers them as a garment.
Their eye bulges from fatness; The imaginations of their heart run riot.7Their eyes swell out through fatness; their hearts overflow with follies.
They mock and wickedly speak of oppression; They speak from on high.8They scoff and speak with malice; loftily they threaten oppression.
They have set their mouth against the heavens, And their tongue parades through the earth.9They set their mouths against the heavens, and their tongue struts through the earth.
Therefore his people return to this place, And waters of abundance are drunk by them.10Therefore his people turn back to them, and find no fault in them.
They say, "How does God know? And is there knowledge with the Most High?"11And they say, “How can God know? Is there knowledge in the Most High?”
Behold, these are the wicked; And always at ease, they have increased in wealth.12Behold, these are the wicked; always at ease, they increase in riches.
Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure And washed my hands in innocence;13All in vain have I kept my heart clean and washed my hands in innocence.
For I have been stricken all day long And chastened every morning.14For all the day long I have been stricken and rebuked every morning.
If I had said, "I will speak thus," Behold, I would have betrayed the generation of Your children.15If I had said, “I will speak thus,” I would have betrayed the generation of your children.
When I pondered to understand this, It was troublesome in my sight16But when I thought how to understand this, it seemed to me a wearisome task,
Until I came into the sanctuary of God; Then I perceived their end.17until I went into the sanctuary of God; then I discerned their end.
Surely You set them in slippery places; You cast them down to destruction.18Truly you set them in slippery places; you make them fall to ruin.
How they are destroyed in a moment! They are utterly swept away by sudden terrors!19How they are destroyed in a moment, swept away utterly by terrors!
Like a dream when one awakes, O Lord, when aroused, You will despise their form.20Like a dream when one awakes, O Lord, when you rouse yourself, you despise them as phantoms.
When my heart was embittered And I was pierced within,21When my soul was embittered, when I was pricked in heart,
Then I was senseless and ignorant; I was like a beast before You.22I was brutish and ignorant; I was like a beast toward you.
Nevertheless I am continually with You; You have taken hold of my right hand.23Nevertheless, I am continually with you; you hold my right hand.
With Your counsel You will guide me, And afterward receive me to glory.24You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will receive me to glory.
Whom have I in heaven but You? And besides You, I desire nothing on earth.25Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you.
My flesh and my heart may fail, But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.26My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
For, behold, those who are far from You will perish; You have destroyed all those who are unfaithful to You.27For behold, those who are far from you shall perish; you put an end to everyone who is unfaithful to you.
But as for me, the nearness of God is my good; I have made the Lord GOD my refuge, That I may tell of all Your works.28But for me it is good to be near God; I have made the Lord GOD my refuge, that I may tell of all your works.
