2Dan, Joseph, Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad and Asher.2Dan, Joseph, Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher. Descendants of Judah
3The sons of Judah were Er, Onan and Shelah; these three were born to him by Bath-shua the Canaanitess. And Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD, so He put him to death.3Judah had three sons from Bathshua, a Canaanite woman. Their names were Er, Onan, and Shelah. But the LORD saw that the oldest son, Er, was a wicked man, so he killed him.
4Tamar his daughter-in-law bore him Perez and Zerah. Judah had five sons in all.4Later Judah had twin sons from Tamar, his widowed daughter-in-law. Their names were Perez and Zerah. So Judah had five sons in all.
5The sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul.5The sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul.
6The sons of Zerah were Zimri, Ethan, Heman, Calcol and Dara; five of them in all.6The sons of Zerah were Zimri, Ethan, Heman, Calcol, and Darda —five in all.
7The son of Carmi was Achar, the troubler of Israel, who violated the ban.7The son of Carmi (a descendant of Zimri) was Achan, who brought disaster on Israel by taking plunder that had been set apart for the LORD.
8The son of Ethan was Azariah.8The son of Ethan was Azariah. From Judah’s Grandson Hezron to David
9Now the sons of Hezron, who were born to him were Jerahmeel, Ram and Chelubai.9The sons of Hezron were Jerahmeel, Ram, and Caleb.
10Ram became the father of Amminadab, and Amminadab became the father of Nahshon, leader of the sons of Judah;10Ram was the father of Amminadab. Amminadab was the father of Nahshon, a leader of Judah.
11Nahshon became the father of Salma, Salma became the father of Boaz,11Nahshon was the father of Salmon. Salmon was the father of Boaz.
12Boaz became the father of Obed, and Obed became the father of Jesse;12Boaz was the father of Obed. Obed was the father of Jesse.
13and Jesse became the father of Eliab his firstborn, then Abinadab the second, Shimea the third,13Jesse’s first son was Eliab, his second was Abinadab, his third was Shimea,
14Nethanel the fourth, Raddai the fifth,14his fourth was Nethanel, his fifth was Raddai,
15Ozem the sixth, David the seventh;15his sixth was Ozem, and his seventh was David.
16and their sisters were Zeruiah and Abigail. And the three sons of Zeruiah were Abshai, Joab and Asahel.16Their sisters were named Zeruiah and Abigail. Zeruiah had three sons named Abishai, Joab, and Asahel.
17Abigail bore Amasa, and the father of Amasa was Jether the Ishmaelite.17Abigail married a man named Jether, an Ishmaelite, and they had a son named Amasa. Other Descendants of Hezron
18Now Caleb the son of Hezron had sons by Azubah his wife, and by Jerioth; and these were her sons: Jesher, Shobab, and Ardon.18Hezron’s son Caleb had sons from his wife Azubah and from Jerioth. Her sons were named Jesher, Shobab, and Ardon.
19When Azubah died, Caleb married Ephrath, who bore him Hur.19After Azubah died, Caleb married Ephrathah, and they had a son named Hur.
20Hur became the father of Uri, and Uri became the father of Bezalel.20Hur was the father of Uri. Uri was the father of Bezalel.
21Afterward Hezron went in to the daughter of Machir the father of Gilead, whom he married when he was sixty years old; and she bore him Segub.21When Hezron was sixty years old, he married Gilead’s sister, the daughter of Makir. They had a son named Segub.
22Segub became the father of Jair, who had twenty-three cities in the land of Gilead.22Segub was the father of Jair, who ruled twenty-three towns in the land of Gilead.
23But Geshur and Aram took the towns of Jair from them, with Kenath and its villages, even sixty cities. All these were the sons of Machir, the father of Gilead.23(But Geshur and Aram captured the Towns of Jair and also took Kenath and its sixty surrounding villages.) All these were descendants of Makir, the father of Gilead.
24After the death of Hezron in Caleb-ephrathah, Abijah, Hezron's wife, bore him Ashhur the father of Tekoa.24Soon after Hezron died in the town of Caleb-ephrathah, his wife Abijah gave birth to a son named Ashhur (the father of Tekoa). Descendants of Hezron’s Son Jerahmeel
25Now the sons of Jerahmeel the firstborn of Hezron were Ram the firstborn, then Bunah, Oren, Ozem and Ahijah.25The sons of Jerahmeel, the oldest son of Hezron, were Ram (the firstborn), Bunah, Oren, Ozem, and Ahijah.
26Jerahmeel had another wife, whose name was Atarah; she was the mother of Onam.26Jerahmeel had a second wife named Atarah. She was the mother of Onam.
27The sons of Ram, the firstborn of Jerahmeel, were Maaz, Jamin and Eker.27The sons of Ram, the oldest son of Jerahmeel, were Maaz, Jamin, and Eker.
28The sons of Onam were Shammai and Jada. And the sons of Shammai were Nadab and Abishur.28The sons of Onam were Shammai and Jada. The sons of Shammai were Nadab and Abishur.
29The name of Abishur's wife was Abihail, and she bore him Ahban and Molid.29The sons of Abishur and his wife Abihail were Ahban and Molid.
30The sons of Nadab were Seled and Appaim, and Seled died without sons.30The sons of Nadab were Seled and Appaim. Seled died without children,
31The son of Appaim was Ishi. And the son of Ishi was Sheshan. And the son of Sheshan was Ahlai.31but Appaim had a son named Ishi. The son of Ishi was Sheshan. Sheshan had a descendant named Ahlai.
32The sons of Jada the brother of Shammai were Jether and Jonathan, and Jether died without sons.32The sons of Jada, Shammai’s brother, were Jether and Jonathan. Jether died without children,
33The sons of Jonathan were Peleth and Zaza. These were the sons of Jerahmeel.33but Jonathan had two sons named Peleth and Zaza. These were all descendants of Jerahmeel.
34Now Sheshan had no sons, only daughters. And Sheshan had an Egyptian servant whose name was Jarha.34Sheshan had no sons, though he did have daughters. He also had an Egyptian servant named Jarha.
35Sheshan gave his daughter to Jarha his servant in marriage, and she bore him Attai.35Sheshan gave one of his daughters to be the wife of Jarha, and they had a son named Attai.
36Attai became the father of Nathan, and Nathan became the father of Zabad,36Attai was the father of Nathan. Nathan was the father of Zabad.
37and Zabad became the father of Ephlal, and Ephlal became the father of Obed,37Zabad was the father of Ephlal. Ephlal was the father of Obed.
38and Obed became the father of Jehu, and Jehu became the father of Azariah,38Obed was the father of Jehu. Jehu was the father of Azariah.
39and Azariah became the father of Helez, and Helez became the father of Eleasah,39Azariah was the father of Helez. Helez was the father of Eleasah.
40and Eleasah became the father of Sismai, and Sismai became the father of Shallum,40Eleasah was the father of Sismai. Sismai was the father of Shallum.
41and Shallum became the father of Jekamiah, and Jekamiah became the father of Elishama.41Shallum was the father of Jekamiah. Jekamiah was the father of Elishama. Descendants of Hezron’s Son Caleb
42Now the sons of Caleb, the brother of Jerahmeel, were Mesha his firstborn, who was the father of Ziph; and his son was Mareshah, the father of Hebron.42The descendants of Caleb, the brother of Jerahmeel, included Mesha (the firstborn), who became the father of Ziph. Caleb’s descendants also included the sons of Mareshah, the father of Hebron.
43The sons of Hebron were Korah and Tappuah and Rekem and Shema.43The sons of Hebron were Korah, Tappuah, Rekem, and Shema.
44Shema became the father of Raham, the father of Jorkeam; and Rekem became the father of Shammai.44Shema was the father of Raham. Raham was the father of Jorkeam. Rekem was the father of Shammai.
45The son of Shammai was Maon, and Maon was the father of Bethzur.45The son of Shammai was Maon. Maon was the father of Beth-zur.
46Ephah, Caleb's concubine, bore Haran, Moza and Gazez; and Haran became the father of Gazez.46Caleb’s concubine Ephah gave birth to Haran, Moza, and Gazez. Haran was the father of Gazez.
47The sons of Jahdai were Regem, Jotham, Geshan, Pelet, Ephah and Shaaph.47The sons of Jahdai were Regem, Jotham, Geshan, Pelet, Ephah, and Shaaph.
48Maacah, Caleb's concubine, bore Sheber and Tirhanah.48Another of Caleb’s concubines, Maacah, gave birth to Sheber and Tirhanah.
49She also bore Shaaph the father of Madmannah, Sheva the father of Machbena and the father of Gibea; and the daughter of Caleb was Achsah.49She also gave birth to Shaaph (the father of Madmannah) and Sheva (the father of Macbenah and Gibea). Caleb also had a daughter named Acsah.
50These were the sons of Caleb. The sons of Hur, the firstborn of Ephrathah, were Shobal the father of Kiriath-jearim,50These were all descendants of Caleb. Descendants of Caleb’s Son Hur The sons of Hur, the oldest son of Caleb’s wife Ephrathah, were Shobal (the founder of Kiriath-jearim),
51Salma the father of Bethlehem and Hareph the father of Beth-gader.51Salma (the founder of Bethlehem), and Hareph (the founder of Beth-gader).
52Shobal the father of Kiriath-jearim had sons: Haroeh, half of the Manahathites,52The descendants of Shobal (the founder of Kiriath-jearim) were Haroeh, half the Manahathites,
53and the families of Kiriath-jearim: the Ithrites, the Puthites, the Shumathites and the Mishraites; from these came the Zorathites and the Eshtaolites.53and the families of Kiriath-jearim—the Ithrites, Puthites, Shumathites, and Mishraites, from whom came the people of Zorah and Eshtaol.
54The sons of Salma were Bethlehem and the Netophathites, Atroth-beth-joab and half of the Manahathites, the Zorites.54The descendants of Salma were the people of Bethlehem, the Netophathites, Atroth-beth-joab, the other half of the Manahathites, the Zorites,
55The families of scribes who lived at Jabez were the Tirathites, the Shimeathites and the Sucathites. Those are the Kenites who came from Hammath, the father of the house of Rechab.55and the families of scribes living at Jabez—the Tirathites, Shimeathites, and Sucathites. All these were Kenites who descended from Hammath, the father of the family of Recab.
