"You must not give a false report. Do not make common cause with the wicked to be a malicious witness. 1You must not spread a false report. Do not join the wicked to be a malicious witness."
"You must not follow a crowd in doing evil things; in a lawsuit you must not offer testimony that agrees with a crowd so as to pervert justice,2You must not follow a crowd in wrongdoing. Do not testify in a lawsuit and go along with a crowd to pervert justice.
and you must not show partiality to a poor man in his lawsuit. 3Do not show favoritism to a poor person in his lawsuit."
"If you encounter your enemy's ox or donkey wandering off, you must by all means return it to him.4If you come across your enemy's stray ox or donkey, you must return it to him."
If you see the donkey of someone who hates you fallen under its load, you must not ignore him, but be sure to help him with it. 5If you see the donkey of someone who hates you lying helpless under its load, and you want to refrain from helping it, you must help with it."
"You must not turn away justice for your poor people in their lawsuits.6You must not deny justice to a poor person among you in his lawsuit.
Keep your distance from a false charge--do not kill the innocent and the righteous, for I will not justify the wicked. 7Stay far away from a false accusation. Do not kill the innocent and the just, because I will not justify the guilty.
"You must not accept a bribe, for a bribe blinds those who see and subverts the words of the righteous. 8You must not take a bribe, for a bribe blinds the clear-sighted and corrupts the words of the righteous.
"You must not oppress a foreigner, since you know the life of a foreigner, for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt. 9You must not oppress a foreign resident; you yourselves know how it feels to be a foreigner because you were foreigners in the land of Egypt."
"For six years you are to sow your land and gather in its produce.10Sow your land for six years and gather its produce.
But in the seventh year you must let it lie fallow and leave it alone so that the poor of your people may eat, and what they leave any animal in the field may eat; you must do likewise with your vineyard and your olive grove.11But during the seventh year you are to let it rest and leave it uncultivated, so that the poor among your people may eat from it and the wild animals may consume what they leave. Do the same with your vineyard and your olive grove."
For six days you are to do your work, but on the seventh day you must cease, in order that your ox and your donkey may rest and that your female servant's son and any hired help may refresh themselves. 12Do your work for six days but rest on the seventh day so that your ox and your donkey may rest, and the son of your female slave as well as the foreign resident may be refreshed."
"Pay attention to do everything I have told you, and do not even mention the names of other gods--do not let them be heard on your lips. 13Pay strict attention to everything I have said to you. You must not invoke the names of other gods; they must not be heard on your lips."
"Three times in the year you must make a pilgrim feast to me.14Celebrate a festival in My honor three times a year.
You are to observe the Feast of Unleavened Bread; seven days you must eat bread made without yeast, as I commanded you, at the appointed time of the month of Abib, for at that time you came out of Egypt. No one may appear before me empty-handed. 15Observe the Festival of Unleavened Bread. As I commanded you, you are to eat unleavened bread for seven days at the appointed time in the month of Abib, because you came out of Egypt in that month. No one is to appear before Me empty-handed.
"You are also to observe the Feast of Harvest, the firstfruits of your labors that you have sown in the field, and the Feast of Ingathering at the end of the year when you have gathered in your harvest out of the field.16Also observe the Festival of Harvest with the firstfruits of your produce from what you sow in the field, and observe the Festival of Ingathering at the end of the year, when you gather your produce from the field.
At three times in the year all your males will appear before the Lord GOD. 17Three times a year all your males are to appear before the Lord GOD."
"You must not offer the blood of my sacrifice with bread containing yeast; the fat of my festal sacrifice must not remain until morning.18You must not offer the blood of My sacrifices with anything leavened. The fat of My festival offering must not remain until morning."
The first of the firstfruits of your soil you must bring to the house of the LORD your God. "You must not cook a young goat in its mother's milk. 19Bring the best of the firstfruits of your land to the house of the LORD your God." You must not boil a young goat in its mother's milk."
"I am going to send an angel before you to protect you as you journey and to bring you into the place that I have prepared.20I am going to send an angel before you to protect you on the way and bring you to the place I have prepared.
Take heed because of him, and obey his voice; do not rebel against him, for he will not pardon your transgressions, for my name is in him.21Be attentive to him and listen to his voice. Do not defy him, because he will not forgive your acts of rebellion, for My name is in him.
But if you diligently obey him and do all that I command, then I will be an enemy to your enemies, and I will be an adversary to your adversaries.22But if you will carefully obey him and do everything I say, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and a foe to your foes.
For my angel will go before you and bring you to the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Canaanites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, and I will destroy them completely. 23For My angel will go before you and bring you to the land of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hivites, and Jebusites, and I will wipe them out.
"You must not bow down to their gods; you must not serve them or do according to their practices. Instead you must completely overthrow them and smash their standing stones to pieces.24You must not bow down to their gods or worship them. Do not imitate their practices. Instead, demolish them and smash their sacred pillars to pieces.
You must serve the LORD your God, and he will bless your bread and your water, and I will remove sickness from your midst.25Worship the LORD your God, and He will bless your bread and your water. I will remove illnesses from you.
No woman will miscarry her young or be barren in your land. I will fulfill the number of your days. 26No woman will miscarry or be childless in your land. I will give you the full number of your days."
"I will send my terror before you, and I will destroy all the people whom you encounter; I will make all your enemies turn their backs to you.27I will cause the people ahead of you to feel terror and throw into confusion all the nations you come to. I will make all your enemies turn their backs to you in retreat.
I will send hornets before you that will drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite before you.28I will send the hornet in front of you, and it will drive the Hivites, Canaanites, and Hittites away from you.
I will not drive them out before you in one year, lest the land become desolate and the wild animals multiply against you.29I will not drive them out ahead of you in a single year; otherwise, the land would become desolate, and wild animals would multiply against you.
Little by little I will drive them out before you, until you become fruitful and inherit the land.30I will drive them out little by little ahead of you until you have become numerous and take possession of the land.
I will set your boundaries from the Red Sea to the sea of the Philistines, and from the desert to the River, for I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you will drive them out before you. 31I will set your borders from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean Sea, and from the wilderness to the Euphrates River. For I will place the inhabitants of the land under your control, and you will drive them out ahead of you.
"You must make no covenant with them or with their gods.32You must not make a covenant with them or their gods.
They must not live in your land, lest they make you sin against me, for if you serve their gods, it will surely be a snare to you." 33They must not remain in your land, or else they will make you sin against Me. If you worship their gods, it will be a snare for you."
