They brought the ark of God and put it in the middle of the tent David had pitched for it. Then they offered burnt sacrifices and peace offerings before God.1They brought the Ark of God, placed it within the tent that David had erected, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings in the presence of God.
When David finished offering burnt sacrifices and peace offerings, he pronounced a blessing over the people in the LORD's name.2After David had finished sacrificing the burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD
He then handed out to each Israelite man and woman a loaf of bread, a date cake, and a raisin cake.3and distributed a loaf of bread, a date bar, and a raisin bar to every person in Israel—that is, to each man and to each woman.
He appointed some of the Levites to serve before the ark of the LORD, to offer prayers, songs of thanks, and hymns to the LORD God of Israel.4In the presence of the ark of the LORD, he appointed some of the descendants of Levi to minister continually by remembering, giving thanks, and praising the LORD God of Israel.
Asaph was the leader and Zechariah second in command, followed by Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-Edom, and Jeiel. They were to play stringed instruments; Asaph was to sound the cymbals;5Their director Asaph played cymbals, and next to him was Zechariah, followed by Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-edom, and Jeiel, who played harps and lyres.
and the priests Benaiah and Jahaziel were to blow trumpets regularly before the ark of God's covenant. 6The priests Benaiah and Jahaziel played the trumpets continually in the presence of the Ark of the Covenant of God.
That day David first gave to Asaph and his colleagues this song of thanks to the LORD: 7On that very day, David composed this psalm of thanksgiving to the LORD just for Asaph and his companions:
Give thanks to the LORD! Call on his name! Make known his accomplishments among the nations! 8Give thanks to the LORD, calling on his name. Make what he has done known among the people.
Sing to him! Make music to him! Tell about all his miraculous deeds! 9Sing to him, sing psalms to him, and think about all of his miraculous deeds.
Boast about his holy name! Let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice! 10Find joy in his holy name; let the hearts of those who keep on seeking the LORD rejoice.
Seek the LORD and the strength he gives! Seek his presence continually! 11Seek the LORD and his strength. Always look to him.
Recall the miraculous deeds he performed, his mighty acts and the judgments he decreed, 12Keep remembering the awesome deeds that he has done, along with his miracles and the rulings that he has handed down,
O children of Israel, God's servant, you descendants of Jacob, God's chosen ones! 13you descendants of his servant Israel, you descendants of Jacob, the ones he has chosen.
He is the LORD our God; he carries out judgment throughout the earth. 14He is the LORD our God. His justice is in all of the land.
Remember continually his covenantal decree, the promise he made to a thousand generations--15Remember his covenant forever, his promise that he made to the thousandth generation,
the promise he made to Abraham, the promise he made by oath to Isaac! 16the covenant that he made with Abraham, and the oath he swore to Isaac.
He gave it to Jacob as a decree, to Israel as a lasting promise, 17He confirmed it to Jacob in the form of an ordinance, an eternal covenant to Israel,
saying, "To you I will give the land of Canaan as the portion of your inheritance." 18when he told Israel, "To you I will give the land of Canaan as your joyful inheritance."
When they were few in number, just a very few, and foreign residents within it, 19When you were few in number— very few, and strangers at that—
they wandered from nation to nation, and from one kingdom to another. 20wandering from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another,
He let no one oppress them, he disciplined kings for their sake, 21he did not let anyone wrong them. He warned kings on their behalf,
saying, "Don't touch my anointed ones! Don't harm my prophets!" 22"Don't touch my chosen ones, and don't hurt my prophets!"
Sing to the LORD, all the earth! Announce every day how he delivers! 23Let all the earth sing to the LORD! Day after day proclaim his deliverance!
Tell the nations about his splendor, tell all the nations about his miraculous deeds! 24Declare his glory among the nations, and his miraculous deeds to all people,
For the LORD is great and certainly worthy of praise, he is more awesome than all gods. 25because the LORD is great, and he is praised greatly! He is feared above every god.
For all the gods of the nations are worthless, but the LORD made the heavens. 26For all of the gods of the other nations are mere idols, but the LORD fashioned the heavens!
Majestic splendor emanates from him, he is the source of strength and joy. 27Splendor and majesty surround him, and strength and joy fill his palace.
Ascribe to the LORD, O families of the nations, ascribe to the LORD splendor and strength! 28Let the families of earth recognize the LORD— that he is glorious and powerful.
Ascribe to the LORD the splendor he deserves! Bring an offering and enter his presence! Worship the LORD in holy attire! 29Recognize the glory that is due the LORD! Bring your offering, and come into his presence, worshiping the LORD in all of his holy splendor.
Tremble before him, all the earth! The world is established, it cannot be moved. 30Tremble in his presence, all the earth! Surely the inhabited world stands firm— it cannot be moved.
Let the heavens rejoice, and the earth be happy! Let the nations say, 'The LORD reigns!' 31Let the heavens rejoice, and the earth be glad! Say to the nations, "The LORD reigns!"
Let the sea and everything in it shout! Let the fields and everything in them celebrate! 32Let the sea roar along with everything that fills it! Let the fields exult, along with everything in them!
Then let the trees of the forest shout with joy before the LORD, for he comes to judge the earth! 33Then let the trees in the forest sing out in praise, for the LORD is coming to judge the world.
Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good and his loyal love endures. 34Give thanks to the LORD, because he is good and because his gracious love is eternal!
Say this prayer: "Deliver us, O God who delivers us! Gather us! Rescue us from the nations! Then we will give thanks to your holy name, and boast about your praiseworthy deeds." 35Call out, "Save us, God, you who delivers us! Gather us and rescue us from the nations! We will thank your holy name and rejoice as we praise you!
May the LORD God of Israel be praised, in the future and forevermore. Then all the people said, "We agree! Praise the LORD!" 36Praise the LORD God of Israel, who lives from eternity to eternity! Then all of the people shouted "Amen!" and praised the LORD.
David left Asaph and his colleagues there before the ark of the LORD's covenant to serve before the ark regularly and fulfill each day's requirements,37Later David left the presence of the Ark of the Covenant of the LORD so Asaph and his fellow descendants of Levi could serve the ark there continually each day, doing whatever was required.
including Obed-Edom and sixty-eight colleagues. Obed-Edom son of Jeduthun and Hosah were gatekeepers.38Obed-edom and 68 of his relatives remained also, with Jeduthun's son Obed-edom and Hosah serving as trustees.
Zadok the priest and his fellow priests served before the LORD's tabernacle at the worship center in Gibeon,39He left Zadok the priest and his relatives at the Tent of the LORD at the high place in Gibeon, where they ministered in the LORD's presence,
regularly offering burnt sacrifices to the LORD on the altar for burnt sacrifice, morning and evening, according to what is prescribed in the law of the LORD which he charged Israel to observe.40sacrificing the regular burnt offerings regularly each morning and evening to the LORD on the altar dedicated to that purpose, doing everything written in the Law of the LORD, just as he had commanded Israel.
Joining them were Heman, Jeduthun, and the rest of those chosen and designated by name to give thanks to the LORD. (For his loyal love endures!)41David also appointed Heman, Jeduthun, and others chosen by name to give thanks to the LORD, because "his gracious love is eternal."
Heman and Jeduthun were in charge of the music, including the trumpets, cymbals, and the other musical instruments used in praising God. The sons of Jeduthun guarded the entrance. 42They accompanied their songs of praise to God with trumpets, cymbals, and other musical instruments while Jeduthun's children served as trustees.
Then all the people returned to their homes, and David went to pronounce a blessing on his family. 43After this, everyone left for their own homes and David went home to bless his own household.
