They brought the ark of God and put it in the middle of the tent David had pitched for it. Then they offered burnt sacrifices and peace offerings before God.1So they brought the ark of God, and set it in the midst of the tent that David had pitched for it: and they offered burnt sacrifices and peace offerings before God.
When David finished offering burnt sacrifices and peace offerings, he pronounced a blessing over the people in the LORD's name.2And when David had made an end of offering the burnt offerings and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD.
He then handed out to each Israelite man and woman a loaf of bread, a date cake, and a raisin cake.3And he dealt to every one of Israel, both man and woman, to every one a loaf of bread, and a good piece of flesh, and a flagon of wine.
He appointed some of the Levites to serve before the ark of the LORD, to offer prayers, songs of thanks, and hymns to the LORD God of Israel.4And he appointed certain of the Levites to minister before the ark of the LORD, and to record, and to thank and praise the LORD God of Israel:
Asaph was the leader and Zechariah second in command, followed by Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-Edom, and Jeiel. They were to play stringed instruments; Asaph was to sound the cymbals;5Asaph the chief, and next to him Zechariah, Jeiel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Mattithiah, and Eliab, and Benaiah, and Obededom: and Jeiel with psalteries and with harps; but Asaph made a sound with cymbals;
and the priests Benaiah and Jahaziel were to blow trumpets regularly before the ark of God's covenant. 6Benaiah also and Jahaziel the priests with trumpets continually before the ark of the covenant of God.
That day David first gave to Asaph and his colleagues this song of thanks to the LORD: 7Then on that day David delivered first this psalm to thank the LORD into the hand of Asaph and his brethren.
Give thanks to the LORD! Call on his name! Make known his accomplishments among the nations! 8Give thanks unto the LORD, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the people.
Sing to him! Make music to him! Tell about all his miraculous deeds! 9Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him, talk ye of all his wondrous works.
Boast about his holy name! Let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice! 10Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD.
Seek the LORD and the strength he gives! Seek his presence continually! 11Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually.
Recall the miraculous deeds he performed, his mighty acts and the judgments he decreed, 12Remember his marvellous works that he hath done, his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth;
O children of Israel, God's servant, you descendants of Jacob, God's chosen ones! 13O ye seed of Israel his servant, ye children of Jacob, his chosen ones.
He is the LORD our God; he carries out judgment throughout the earth. 14He is the LORD our God; his judgments are in all the earth.
Remember continually his covenantal decree, the promise he made to a thousand generations--15Be ye mindful always of his covenant; the word which he commanded to a thousand generations;
the promise he made to Abraham, the promise he made by oath to Isaac! 16Even of the covenant which he made with Abraham, and of his oath unto Isaac;
He gave it to Jacob as a decree, to Israel as a lasting promise, 17And hath confirmed the same to Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant,
saying, "To you I will give the land of Canaan as the portion of your inheritance." 18Saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance;
When they were few in number, just a very few, and foreign residents within it, 19When ye were but few, even a few, and strangers in it.
they wandered from nation to nation, and from one kingdom to another. 20And when they went from nation to nation, and from one kingdom to another people;
He let no one oppress them, he disciplined kings for their sake, 21He suffered no man to do them wrong: yea, he reproved kings for their sakes,
saying, "Don't touch my anointed ones! Don't harm my prophets!" 22Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.
Sing to the LORD, all the earth! Announce every day how he delivers! 23Sing unto the LORD, all the earth; shew forth from day to day his salvation.
Tell the nations about his splendor, tell all the nations about his miraculous deeds! 24Declare his glory among the heathen; his marvellous works among all nations.
For the LORD is great and certainly worthy of praise, he is more awesome than all gods. 25For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised: he also is to be feared above all gods.
For all the gods of the nations are worthless, but the LORD made the heavens. 26For all the gods of the people are idols: but the LORD made the heavens.
Majestic splendor emanates from him, he is the source of strength and joy. 27Glory and honour are in his presence; strength and gladness are in his place.
Ascribe to the LORD, O families of the nations, ascribe to the LORD splendor and strength! 28Give unto the LORD, ye kindreds of the people, give unto the LORD glory and strength.
Ascribe to the LORD the splendor he deserves! Bring an offering and enter his presence! Worship the LORD in holy attire! 29Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come before him: worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.
Tremble before him, all the earth! The world is established, it cannot be moved. 30Fear before him, all the earth: the world also shall be stable, that it be not moved.
Let the heavens rejoice, and the earth be happy! Let the nations say, 'The LORD reigns!' 31Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice: and let men say among the nations, The LORD reigneth.
Let the sea and everything in it shout! Let the fields and everything in them celebrate! 32Let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof: let the fields rejoice, and all that is therein.
Then let the trees of the forest shout with joy before the LORD, for he comes to judge the earth! 33Then shall the trees of the wood sing out at the presence of the LORD, because he cometh to judge the earth.
Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good and his loyal love endures. 34O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever.
Say this prayer: "Deliver us, O God who delivers us! Gather us! Rescue us from the nations! Then we will give thanks to your holy name, and boast about your praiseworthy deeds." 35And say ye, Save us, O God of our salvation, and gather us together, and deliver us from the heathen, that we may give thanks to thy holy name, and glory in thy praise.
May the LORD God of Israel be praised, in the future and forevermore. Then all the people said, "We agree! Praise the LORD!" 36Blessed be the LORD God of Israel for ever and ever. And all the people said, Amen, and praised the LORD.
David left Asaph and his colleagues there before the ark of the LORD's covenant to serve before the ark regularly and fulfill each day's requirements,37So he left there before the ark of the covenant of the LORD Asaph and his brethren, to minister before the ark continually, as every day's work required:
including Obed-Edom and sixty-eight colleagues. Obed-Edom son of Jeduthun and Hosah were gatekeepers.38And Obededom with their brethren, threescore and eight; Obededom also the son of Jeduthun and Hosah to be porters:
Zadok the priest and his fellow priests served before the LORD's tabernacle at the worship center in Gibeon,39And Zadok the priest, and his brethren the priests, before the tabernacle of the LORD in the high place that was at Gibeon,
regularly offering burnt sacrifices to the LORD on the altar for burnt sacrifice, morning and evening, according to what is prescribed in the law of the LORD which he charged Israel to observe.40To offer burnt offerings unto the LORD upon the altar of the burnt offering continually morning and evening, and to do according to all that is written in the law of the LORD, which he commanded Israel;
Joining them were Heman, Jeduthun, and the rest of those chosen and designated by name to give thanks to the LORD. (For his loyal love endures!)41And with them Heman and Jeduthun, and the rest that were chosen, who were expressed by name, to give thanks to the LORD, because his mercy endureth for ever;
Heman and Jeduthun were in charge of the music, including the trumpets, cymbals, and the other musical instruments used in praising God. The sons of Jeduthun guarded the entrance. 42And with them Heman and Jeduthun with trumpets and cymbals for those that should make a sound, and with musical instruments of God. And the sons of Jeduthun were porters.
Then all the people returned to their homes, and David went to pronounce a blessing on his family. 43And all the people departed every man to his house: and David returned to bless his house.
