He then handed out to each Israelite man and woman a loaf of bread, a date cake, and a raisin cake.3Then he gave a loaf of bread, a cake of dates and a cake of raisins to each Israelite man and woman.
He appointed some of the Levites to serve before the ark of the LORD, to offer prayers, songs of thanks, and hymns to the LORD God of Israel.4He appointed some of the Levites to minister before the ark of the LORD, to extol, thank, and praise the LORD, the God of Israel:
Asaph was the leader and Zechariah second in command, followed by Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-Edom, and Jeiel. They were to play stringed instruments; Asaph was to sound the cymbals;5Asaph was the chief, and next to him in rank were Zechariah, then Jaaziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-Edom and Jeiel. They were to play the lyres and harps, Asaph was to sound the cymbals,
and the priests Benaiah and Jahaziel were to blow trumpets regularly before the ark of God's covenant. 6and Benaiah and Jahaziel the priests were to blow the trumpets regularly before the ark of the covenant of God.
That day David first gave to Asaph and his colleagues this song of thanks to the LORD: 7That day David first appointed Asaph and his associates to give praise to the LORD in this manner:
Give thanks to the LORD! Call on his name! Make known his accomplishments among the nations! 8Give praise to the LORD, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done.
Sing to him! Make music to him! Tell about all his miraculous deeds! 9Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts.
Boast about his holy name! Let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice! 10Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice.
Seek the LORD and the strength he gives! Seek his presence continually! 11Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always.
Recall the miraculous deeds he performed, his mighty acts and the judgments he decreed, 12Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced,
O children of Israel, God's servant, you descendants of Jacob, God's chosen ones! 13you his servants, the descendants of Israel, his chosen ones, the children of Jacob.
He is the LORD our God; he carries out judgment throughout the earth. 14He is the LORD our God; his judgments are in all the earth.
Remember continually his covenantal decree, the promise he made to a thousand generations--15He remembers his covenant forever, the promise he made, for a thousand generations,
the promise he made to Abraham, the promise he made by oath to Isaac! 16the covenant he made with Abraham, the oath he swore to Isaac.
He gave it to Jacob as a decree, to Israel as a lasting promise, 17He confirmed it to Jacob as a decree, to Israel as an everlasting covenant:
saying, "To you I will give the land of Canaan as the portion of your inheritance." 18"To you I will give the land of Canaan as the portion you will inherit."
When they were few in number, just a very few, and foreign residents within it, 19When they were but few in number, few indeed, and strangers in it,
they wandered from nation to nation, and from one kingdom to another. 20they wandered from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another.
He let no one oppress them, he disciplined kings for their sake, 21He allowed no one to oppress them; for their sake he rebuked kings:
saying, "Don't touch my anointed ones! Don't harm my prophets!" 22"Do not touch my anointed ones; do my prophets no harm."
Sing to the LORD, all the earth! Announce every day how he delivers! 23Sing to the LORD, all the earth; proclaim his salvation day after day.
Tell the nations about his splendor, tell all the nations about his miraculous deeds! 24Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.
For the LORD is great and certainly worthy of praise, he is more awesome than all gods. 25For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods.
For all the gods of the nations are worthless, but the LORD made the heavens. 26For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the LORD made the heavens.
Majestic splendor emanates from him, he is the source of strength and joy. 27Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and joy are in his dwelling place.
Ascribe to the LORD, O families of the nations, ascribe to the LORD splendor and strength! 28Ascribe to the LORD, all you families of nations, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength.
Ascribe to the LORD the splendor he deserves! Bring an offering and enter his presence! Worship the LORD in holy attire! 29Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; bring an offering and come before him. Worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness.
Tremble before him, all the earth! The world is established, it cannot be moved. 30Tremble before him, all the earth! The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved.
Let the heavens rejoice, and the earth be happy! Let the nations say, 'The LORD reigns!' 31Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let them say among the nations, "The LORD reigns!"
Let the sea and everything in it shout! Let the fields and everything in them celebrate! 32Let the sea resound, and all that is in it; let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them!
Then let the trees of the forest shout with joy before the LORD, for he comes to judge the earth! 33Let the trees of the forest sing, let them sing for joy before the LORD, for he comes to judge the earth.
Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good and his loyal love endures. 34Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.
Say this prayer: "Deliver us, O God who delivers us! Gather us! Rescue us from the nations! Then we will give thanks to your holy name, and boast about your praiseworthy deeds." 35Cry out, "Save us, God our Savior; gather us and deliver us from the nations, that we may give thanks to your holy name, and glory in your praise."
May the LORD God of Israel be praised, in the future and forevermore. Then all the people said, "We agree! Praise the LORD!" 36Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Then all the people said "Amen" and "Praise the LORD."
