1The word of the LORD came to me:1The word of the LORD came to me:
2"Son of man, take up a lament concerning Tyre.2“Now you, son of man, raise a lamentation over Tyre,
3Say to Tyre, situated at the gateway to the sea, merchant of peoples on many coasts, 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: "'You say, Tyre, "I am perfect in beauty."3and say to Tyre, who dwells at the entrances to the sea, merchant of the peoples to many coastlands, thus says the Lord GOD: “O Tyre, you have said, ‘I am perfect in beauty.’
4Your domain was on the high seas; your builders brought your beauty to perfection.4Your borders are in the heart of the seas; your builders made perfect your beauty.
5They made all your timbers of juniper from Senir; they took a cedar from Lebanon to make a mast for you.5They made all your planks of fir trees from Senir; they took a cedar from Lebanon to make a mast for you.
6Of oaks from Bashan they made your oars; of cypress wood from the coasts of Cyprus they made your deck, adorned with ivory.6Of oaks of Bashan they made your oars; they made your deck of pines from the coasts of Cyprus, inlaid with ivory.
7Fine embroidered linen from Egypt was your sail and served as your banner; your awnings were of blue and purple from the coasts of Elishah.7Of fine embroidered linen from Egypt was your sail, serving as your banner; blue and purple from the coasts of Elishah was your awning.
8Men of Sidon and Arvad were your oarsmen; your skilled men, Tyre, were aboard as your sailors.8The inhabitants of Sidon and Arvad were your rowers; your skilled men, O Tyre, were in you; they were your pilots.
9Veteran craftsmen of Byblos were on board as shipwrights to caulk your seams. All the ships of the sea and their sailors came alongside to trade for your wares.9The elders of Gebal and her skilled men were in you, caulking your seams; all the ships of the sea with their mariners were in you to barter for your wares.
10"'Men of Persia, Lydia and Put served as soldiers in your army. They hung their shields and helmets on your walls, bringing you splendor.10“Persia and Lud and Put were in your army as your men of war. They hung the shield and helmet in you; they gave you splendor.
11Men of Arvad and Helek guarded your walls on every side; men of Gammad were in your towers. They hung their shields around your walls; they brought your beauty to perfection.11Men of Arvad and Helech were on your walls all around, and men of Gamad were in your towers. They hung their shields on your walls all around; they made perfect your beauty.
12"'Tarshish did business with you because of your great wealth of goods; they exchanged silver, iron, tin and lead for your merchandise.12“Tarshish did business with you because of your great wealth of every kind; silver, iron, tin, and lead they exchanged for your wares.
13"'Greece, Tubal and Meshek did business with you; they traded human beings and articles of bronze for your wares.13Javan, Tubal, and Meshech traded with you; they exchanged human beings and vessels of bronze for your merchandise.
14"'Men of Beth Togarmah exchanged chariot horses, cavalry horses and mules for your merchandise.14From Beth-togarmah they exchanged horses, war horses, and mules for your wares.
15"'The men of Rhodes traded with you, and many coastlands were your customers; they paid you with ivory tusks and ebony.15The men of Dedan traded with you. Many coastlands were your own special markets; they brought you in payment ivory tusks and ebony.
16"'Aram did business with you because of your many products; they exchanged turquoise, purple fabric, embroidered work, fine linen, coral and rubies for your merchandise.16Syria did business with you because of your abundant goods; they exchanged for your wares emeralds, purple, embroidered work, fine linen, coral, and ruby.
17"'Judah and Israel traded with you; they exchanged wheat from Minnith and confections, honey, olive oil and balm for your wares.17Judah and the land of Israel traded with you; they exchanged for your merchandise wheat of Minnith, meal, honey, oil, and balm.
18"'Damascus did business with you because of your many products and great wealth of goods. They offered wine from Helbon, wool from Zahar18Damascus did business with you for your abundant goods, because of your great wealth of every kind; wine of Helbon and wool of Sahar
19and casks of wine from Izal in exchange for your wares: wrought iron, cassia and calamus.19and casks of wine from Uzal they exchanged for your wares; wrought iron, cassia, and calamus were bartered for your merchandise.
20"'Dedan traded in saddle blankets with you.20Dedan traded with you in saddlecloths for riding.
21"'Arabia and all the princes of Kedar were your customers; they did business with you in lambs, rams and goats.21Arabia and all the princes of Kedar were your favored dealers in lambs, rams, and goats; in these they did business with you.
22"'The merchants of Sheba and Raamah traded with you; for your merchandise they exchanged the finest of all kinds of spices and precious stones, and gold.22The traders of Sheba and Raamah traded with you; they exchanged for your wares the best of all kinds of spices and all precious stones and gold.
23"'Harran, Kanneh and Eden and merchants of Sheba, Ashur and Kilmad traded with you.23Haran, Canneh, Eden, traders of Sheba, Asshur, and Chilmad traded with you.
24In your marketplace they traded with you beautiful garments, blue fabric, embroidered work and multicolored rugs with cords twisted and tightly knotted.24In your market these traded with you in choice garments, in clothes of blue and embroidered work, and in carpets of colored material, bound with cords and made secure.
25"'The ships of Tarshish serve as carriers for your wares. You are filled with heavy cargo as you sail the sea.25The ships of Tarshish traveled for you with your merchandise. So you were filled and heavily laden in the heart of the seas.
26Your oarsmen take you out to the high seas. But the east wind will break you to pieces far out at sea.26“Your rowers have brought you out into the high seas. The east wind has wrecked you in the heart of the seas.
27Your wealth, merchandise and wares, your mariners, sailors and shipwrights, your merchants and all your soldiers, and everyone else on board will sink into the heart of the sea on the day of your shipwreck.27Your riches, your wares, your merchandise, your mariners and your pilots, your caulkers, your dealers in merchandise, and all your men of war who are in you, with all your crew that is in your midst, sink into the heart of the seas on the day of your fall.
28The shorelands will quake when your sailors cry out.28At the sound of the cry of your pilots the countryside shakes,
29All who handle the oars will abandon their ships; the mariners and all the sailors will stand on the shore.29and down from their ships come all who handle the oar. The mariners and all the pilots of the sea stand on the land
30They will raise their voice and cry bitterly over you; they will sprinkle dust on their heads and roll in ashes.30and shout aloud over you and cry out bitterly. They cast dust on their heads and wallow in ashes;
31They will shave their heads because of you and will put on sackcloth. They will weep over you with anguish of soul and with bitter mourning.31they make themselves bald for you and put sackcloth on their waist, and they weep over you in bitterness of soul, with bitter mourning.
32As they wail and mourn over you, they will take up a lament concerning you: "Who was ever silenced like Tyre, surrounded by the sea?"32In their wailing they raise a lamentation for you and lament over you: ‘Who is like Tyre, like one destroyed in the midst of the sea?
33When your merchandise went out on the seas, you satisfied many nations; with your great wealth and your wares you enriched the kings of the earth.33When your wares came from the seas, you satisfied many peoples; with your abundant wealth and merchandise you enriched the kings of the earth.
34Now you are shattered by the sea in the depths of the waters; your wares and all your company have gone down with you.34Now you are wrecked by the seas, in the depths of the waters; your merchandise and all your crew in your midst have sunk with you.
35All who live in the coastlands are appalled at you; their kings shudder with horror and their faces are distorted with fear.35All the inhabitants of the coastlands are appalled at you, and the hair of their kings bristles with horror; their faces are convulsed.
36The merchants among the nations scoff at you; you have come to a horrible end and will be no more.'"36The merchants among the peoples hiss at you; you have come to a dreadful end and shall be no more forever.’”
