Psalm 2
New King James VersionNew International Version
Why do the nations rage, And the people plot a vain thing?1Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain?
The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the LORD and against His Anointed, saying,2The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together against the LORD and against his anointed, saying,
“Let us break Their bonds in pieces And cast away Their cords from us.”3"Let us break their chains and throw off their shackles."
He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The Lord shall hold them in derision.4The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them.
Then He shall speak to them in His wrath, And distress them in His deep displeasure:5He rebukes them in his anger and terrifies them in his wrath, saying,
“Yet I have set My King On My holy hill of Zion.”6"I have installed my king on Zion, my holy mountain."
“I will declare the decree: The LORD has said to Me, ‘You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.7I will proclaim the LORD's decree: He said to me, "You are my son; today I have become your father.
Ask of Me, and I will give You The nations for Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth for Your possession.8Ask me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession.
You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them to pieces like a potter’s vessel.’ ”9You will break them with a rod of iron; you will dash them to pieces like pottery."
Now therefore, be wise, O kings; Be instructed, you judges of the earth.10Therefore, you kings, be wise; be warned, you rulers of the earth.
Serve the LORD with fear, And rejoice with trembling.11Serve the LORD with fear and celebrate his rule with trembling.
Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, And you perish in the way, When His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.12Kiss his son, or he will be angry and your way will lead to your destruction, for his wrath can flare up in a moment. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
