Behold, the LORD lays waste the earth and leaves it in ruins. He will twist its surface and scatter its inhabitants— Behold, the LORD will empty the earth and make it desolate, and he will twist its surface and scatter its inhabitants. Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof. Behold, the LORD lays the earth waste, devastates it, twists its surface, and scatters its inhabitants. See, the LORD is going to lay waste the earth and devastate it; he will ruin its face and scatter its inhabitants—
people and priest alike, servant and master, maid and mistress, buyer and seller, lender and borrower, creditor and debtor. And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the slave, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with the creditor, so with the debtor. And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him. And the people will be like the priest, the servant like his master, the female servant like her mistress, the buyer like the seller, the lender like the borrower, the creditor like the debtor. it will be the same for priest as for people, for the master as for his servant, for the mistress as for her servant, for seller as for buyer, for borrower as for lender, for debtor as for creditor.
The earth will be utterly laid waste and thoroughly plundered. For the LORD has spoken this word. The earth shall be utterly empty and utterly plundered; for the LORD has spoken this word. The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: for the LORD hath spoken this word. The earth will be completely laid waste and completely plundered, for the LORD has spoken this word. The earth will be completely laid waste and totally plundered. The LORD has spoken this word.
The earth mourns and withers; the world languishes and fades; the exalted of the earth waste away. The earth mourns and withers; the world languishes and withers; the highest people of the earth languish. The earth mourneth and fadeth away, the world languisheth and fadeth away, the haughty people of the earth do languish. The earth dries up and crumbles away, the mainland dries out and crumbles away, the exalted of the people of the earth dwindle. The earth dries up and withers, the world languishes and withers, the heavens languish with the earth.
The earth is defiled by its people; they have transgressed the laws; they have overstepped the decrees and broken the everlasting covenant. The earth lies defiled under its inhabitants; for they have transgressed the laws, violated the statutes, broken the everlasting covenant. The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant. The earth is also defiled by its inhabitants, for they violated laws, altered statutes, and broke the everlasting covenant. The earth is defiled by its people; they have disobeyed the laws, violated the statutes and broken the everlasting covenant.
Therefore a curse has consumed the earth, and its inhabitants must bear the guilt; the earth’s dwellers have been burned, and only a few survive. Therefore a curse devours the earth, and its inhabitants suffer for their guilt; therefore the inhabitants of the earth are scorched, and few men are left. Therefore hath the curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are desolate: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left. Therefore, a curse devours the earth, and those who live on it suffer for their guilt. Therefore, the inhabitants of the earth decrease in number, and few people are left. Therefore a curse consumes the earth; its people must bear their guilt. Therefore earth’s inhabitants are burned up, and very few are left.
The new wine dries up, the vine withers. All the merrymakers now groan. The wine mourns, the vine languishes, all the merry-hearted sigh. The new wine mourneth, the vine languisheth, all the merryhearted do sigh. The new wine mourns, The vine decays, All the joyful-hearted sigh. The new wine dries up and the vine withers; all the merrymakers groan.
The joyful tambourines have ceased; the noise of revelers has stopped; the joyful harp is silent. The mirth of the tambourines is stilled, the noise of the jubilant has ceased, the mirth of the lyre is stilled. The mirth of tabrets ceaseth, the noise of them that rejoice endeth, the joy of the harp ceaseth. The joy of tambourines ceases, The noise of revelers stops, The joy of the harp ceases. The joyful timbrels are stilled, the noise of the revelers has stopped, the joyful harp is silent.
They no longer sing and drink wine; strong drink is bitter to those who consume it. No more do they drink wine with singing; strong drink is bitter to those who drink it. They shall not drink wine with a song; strong drink shall be bitter to them that drink it. They do not drink wine with song; Intoxicating drink is bitter to those who drink it. No longer do they drink wine with a song; the beer is bitter to its drinkers.
The city of chaos is shattered; every house is closed to entry. The wasted city is broken down; every house is shut up so that none can enter. The city of confusion is broken down: every house is shut up, that no man may come in. The city of chaos is broken down; Every house is shut up so that no one may enter. The ruined city lies desolate; the entrance to every house is barred.
In the streets they cry out for wine. All joy turns to gloom; rejoicing is exiled from the land. There is an outcry in the streets for lack of wine; all joy has grown dark; the gladness of the earth is banished. There is a crying for wine in the streets; all joy is darkened, the mirth of the land is gone. There is an outcry in the streets concerning the wine; All joy turns to gloom. The joy of the earth is banished. In the streets they cry out for wine; all joy turns to gloom, all joyful sounds are banished from the earth.
The city is left in ruins; its gate is reduced to rubble. Desolation is left in the city; the gates are battered into ruins. In the city is left desolation, and the gate is smitten with destruction. Desolation is left in the city And the gate is battered to ruins. The city is left in ruins, its gate is battered to pieces.
So will it be on the earth and among the nations, like a harvested olive tree, like a gleaning after a grape harvest. For thus it shall be in the midst of the earth among the nations, as when an olive tree is beaten, as at the gleaning when the grape harvest is done. When thus it shall be in the midst of the land among the people, there shall be as the shaking of an olive tree, and as the gleaning grapes when the vintage is done. For so it will be in the midst of the earth among the peoples, As the shaking of an olive tree, As the gleanings when the grape harvest is over. So will it be on the earth and among the nations, as when an olive tree is beaten, or as when gleanings are left after the grape harvest.
They raise their voices, they shout for joy; from the west they proclaim the majesty of the LORD. They lift up their voices, they sing for joy; over the majesty of the LORD they shout from the west. They shall lift up their voice, they shall sing for the majesty of the LORD, they shall cry aloud from the sea. They raise their voices, they shout for joy; They cry out from the west concerning the majesty of the LORD. They raise their voices, they shout for joy; from the west they acclaim the LORD’s majesty.
Therefore glorify the LORD in the east. Extol the name of the LORD, the God of Israel in the islands of the sea. Therefore in the east give glory to the LORD; in the coastlands of the sea, give glory to the name of the LORD, the God of Israel. Wherefore glorify ye the LORD in the fires, even the name of the LORD God of Israel in the isles of the sea. Therefore glorify the LORD in the east, The name of the LORD, the God of Israel, In the coastlands of the sea. Therefore in the east give glory to the LORD; exalt the name of the LORD, the God of Israel, in the islands of the sea.
From the ends of the earth we hear singing: “Glory to the Righteous One.” But I said, “I am wasting away! I am wasting away! Woe is me.” The treacherous betray; the treacherous deal in treachery. From the ends of the earth we hear songs of praise, of glory to the Righteous One. But I say, “I waste away, I waste away. Woe is me! For the traitors have betrayed, with betrayal the traitors have betrayed.” From the uttermost part of the earth have we heard songs, even glory to the righteous. But I said, My leanness, my leanness, woe unto me! the treacherous dealers have dealt treacherously; yea, the treacherous dealers have dealt very treacherously. From the ends of the earth we hear songs: “Glory to the Righteous One,” But I say, “I am finished! I am finished! Woe to me! The treacherous deal treacherously, And the treacherous deal very treacherously.” From the ends of the earth we hear singing: “Glory to the Righteous One.” But I said, “I waste away, I waste away! Woe to me! The treacherous betray! With treachery the treacherous betray!”
Terror and pit and snare await you, O dweller of the earth. Terror and the pit and the snare are upon you, O inhabitant of the earth! Fear, and the pit, and the snare, are upon thee, O inhabitant of the earth. Terror and pit and snare Confront you, you inhabitant of the earth. Terror and pit and snare await you, people of the earth.
Whoever flees the sound of panic will fall into the pit, and whoever climbs from the pit will be caught in the snare. For the windows of heaven are open, and the foundations of the earth are shaken. He who flees at the sound of the terror shall fall into the pit, and he who climbs out of the pit shall be caught in the snare. For the windows of heaven are opened, and the foundations of the earth tremble. And it shall come to pass, that he who fleeth from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for the windows from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth do shake. Then it will be that the one who flees the sound of terror will fall into the pit, And the one who climbs out of the pit will be caught in the snare; For the windows above are opened, and the foundations of the earth shake. Whoever flees at the sound of terror will fall into a pit; whoever climbs out of the pit will be caught in a snare. The floodgates of the heavens are opened, the foundations of the earth shake.
The earth is utterly broken apart, the earth is split open, the earth is shaken violently. The earth is utterly broken, the earth is split apart, the earth is violently shaken. The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is clean dissolved, the earth is moved exceedingly. The earth is broken apart, The earth is split through, The earth is shaken violently. The earth is broken up, the earth is split asunder, the earth is violently shaken.
The earth staggers like a drunkard and sways like a shack. Earth’s rebellion weighs it down, and it falls, never to rise again. The earth staggers like a drunken man; it sways like a hut; its transgression lies heavy upon it, and it falls, and will not rise again. The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed like a cottage; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again. The earth trembles like a heavy drinker And sways like a hut, For its wrongdoing is heavy upon it, And it will fall, never to rise again. The earth reels like a drunkard, it sways like a hut in the wind; so heavy upon it is the guilt of its rebellion that it falls—never to rise again.
In that day the LORD will punish the host of heaven above and the kings of the earth below. On that day the LORD will punish the host of heaven, in heaven, and the kings of the earth, on the earth. And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall punish the host of the high ones that are on high, and the kings of the earth upon the earth. So it will happen on that day, That the LORD will punish the rebellious angels of heaven on high, And the kings of the earth on earth. In that day the LORD will punish the powers in the heavens above and the kings on the earth below.
They will be gathered together like prisoners in a pit. They will be confined to a dungeon and punished after many days. They will be gathered together as prisoners in a pit; they will be shut up in a prison, and after many days they will be punished. And they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days shall they be visited. They will be gathered together Like prisoners in the dungeon, And will be confined in prison; And after many days they will be punished. They will be herded together like prisoners bound in a dungeon; they will be shut up in prison and be punished after many days.
The moon will be confounded and the sun will be ashamed; for the LORD of Hosts will reign on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, and before His elders with great glory. Then the moon will be confounded and the sun ashamed, for the LORD of hosts reigns on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, and his glory will be before his elders. Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the LORD of hosts shall reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his ancients gloriously. Then the moon will be ashamed and the sun be put to shame, For the LORD of armies will reign on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, And His glory will be before His elders. The moon will be dismayed, the sun ashamed; for the LORD Almighty will reign on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, and before its elders—with great glory.
