Exclusion from the Congregation

1  לֹֽא־ (Not) יָבֹ֧א (shall enter) פְצֽוּעַ־ (one bruised) דַּכָּ֛א (by crushing) וּכְר֥וּת (or severing) שָׁפְכָ֖ה (the genitals) בִּקְהַ֥ל (into the assembly) יְהוָֽה׃ס (of YHWH).

2  לֹא־ (Not) יָבֹ֥א (shall enter) מַמְזֵ֖ר (one of illegitimate birth) בִּקְהַ֣ל (the assembly) יְהוָ֑ה (of YHWH)— גַּ֚ם (even) דּ֣וֹר (of the generation) עֲשִׂירִ֔י (tenth) לֹא־ (none) יָ֥בֹא (shall enter) ל֖וֹ (of his seed) בִּקְהַ֥ל (into the assembly) יְהוָֽה׃ס (of YHWH).

3  לֹֽא־ (Not) יָבֹ֧א (shall enter) עַמּוֹנִ֛י (an Ammonite) וּמוֹאָבִ֖י (or Moabite) בִּקְהַ֣ל (the assembly) יְהוָ֑ה (of YHWH); גַּ֚ם (even to) דּ֣וֹר (the generation) עֲשִׂירִ֔י (tenth) לֹא־ (none) יָבֹ֥א (shall enter) לָהֶ֛ם (-) בִּקְהַ֥ל (the assembly) יְהוָ֖ה (of YHWH) עַד־ (even to) עוֹלָֽם׃ (the age), 4  עַל־ (on account) דְּבַ֞ר (of the matter) אֲשֶׁ֨ר (that) לֹא־ (not) קִדְּמ֤וּ (they did meet) אֶתְכֶם֙ (you⁺) בַּלֶּ֣חֶם (with the bread) וּבַמַּ֔יִם (and with the water) בַּדֶּ֖רֶךְ (on the road) בְּצֵאתְכֶ֣ם (when you⁺ came) מִמִּצְרָ֑יִם (out of Egypt), וַאֲשֶׁר֩ (and because) שָׂכַ֨ר (they hired) עָלֶ֜יךָ (against you) אֶת־ (-) בִּלְעָ֣ם (Balaam) בֶּן־ (son) בְּע֗וֹר (of Beor) מִפְּת֛וֹר (from Pethor) אֲרַ֥ם (in Aram-) נַהֲרַ֖יִם (naharaim), לְקַֽלְלֶֽךָּ׃ (to curse you). 5  וְלֹֽא־ (And not) אָבָ֞ה (was willing) יְהוָ֤ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙ (your God) לִשְׁמֹ֣עַ (to listen) אֶל־ (to) בִּלְעָ֔ם (Balaam), וַיַּהֲפֹךְ֩ (and turned) יְהוָ֨ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֧יךָ (your God) לְּךָ֛ (for you) אֶת־ (-) הַקְּלָלָ֖ה (the curse) לִבְרָכָ֑ה (into a blessing), כִּ֥י (because) אֲהֵֽבְךָ֖ (loves you) יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֶֽיךָ׃ (your God). 6  לֹא־ (Not) תִדְרֹ֥שׁ (you shall seek) שְׁלֹמָ֖ם (their peace) וְטֹבָתָ֑ם (or their prosperity) כָּל־ (all) יָמֶ֖יךָ (your days) לְעוֹלָֽם׃ס (forever).

7  לֹֽא־ (Not) תְתַעֵ֣ב (you shall abhor) אֲדֹמִ֔י (an Edomite), כִּ֥י (for) אָחִ֖יךָ (your brother) ה֑וּאס (he is). לֹא־ (Not) תְתַעֵ֣ב (you shall abhor) מִצְרִ֔י (an Egyptian), כִּי־ (because) גֵ֖ר (a sojourner) הָיִ֥יתָ (you were) בְאַרְצֽוֹ׃ (in his land). 8  בָּנִ֛ים (The sons) אֲשֶׁר־ (who) יִוָּלְד֥וּ (are begotten) לָהֶ֖ם (to them), דּ֣וֹר (the generation) שְׁלִישִׁ֑י (third), יָבֹ֥א (may enter) לָהֶ֖ם (into) בִּקְהַ֥ל (the assembly) יְהוָֽה׃ס (of YHWH).

Uncleanness in the Camp
(Leviticus 15:1–12)

9  כִּֽי־ (When) תֵצֵ֥א (goes out) מַחֲנֶ֖ה (a camp) עַל־ (against) אֹיְבֶ֑יךָ (your enemies), וְנִ֨שְׁמַרְתָּ֔ (and keep yourself) מִכֹּ֖ל (from every) דָּבָ֥ר (thing) רָֽע׃ (wicked). 10  כִּֽי־ (If) יִהְיֶ֤ה (there is) בְךָ֙ (among you) אִ֔ישׁ (any man) אֲשֶׁ֛ר (who) לֹא־ (not) יִהְיֶ֥ה (is) טָה֖וֹר (clean) מִקְּרֵה־ (by some occurrence) לָ֑יְלָה (in the night), וְיָצָא֙ (and he shall go) אֶל־ (to) מִח֣וּץ (the outside) לַֽמַּחֲנֶ֔ה (of the camp), לֹ֥א (not) יָבֹ֖א (he shall come in) אֶל־ (to) תּ֥וֹךְ (the midst) הַֽמַּחֲנֶֽה׃ (of the camp). 11  וְהָיָ֥ה (And it shall come to pass) לִפְנֽוֹת־ (at the turning) עֶ֖רֶב (of the evening) יִרְחַ֣ץ (that he shall wash) בַּמָּ֑יִם (with the water), וּכְבֹ֣א (and at the going in) הַשֶּׁ֔מֶשׁ (of the sun) יָבֹ֖א (he may come in) אֶל־ (to) תּ֥וֹךְ (the midst) הַֽמַּחֲנֶה׃ (of the camp).

12  וְיָד֙ (And a place) תִּהְיֶ֣ה (shall be) לְךָ֔ (for you) מִח֖וּץ (outside) לַֽמַּחֲנֶ֑ה (of the camp), וְיָצָ֥אתָ (and you may go) שָׁ֖מָּה (there) חֽוּץ׃ (outside). 13  וְיָתֵ֛ד (And an implement) תִּהְיֶ֥ה (shall be) לְךָ֖ (unto you) עַל־ (among) אֲזֵנֶ֑ךָ (your equipment), וְהָיָה֙ (and) בְּשִׁבְתְּךָ֣ (when you sit down) ח֔וּץ (outside), וְחָפַרְתָּ֣ה (and you shall dig) בָ֔הּ (with it) וְשַׁבְתָּ֖ (and turn) וְכִסִּ֥יתָ (and cover up) אֶת־ (-) צֵאָתֶֽךָ׃ (your filth).

14  כִּי֩ (For) יְהוָ֨ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֜יךָ (your God) מִתְהַלֵּ֣ךְ׀ (walks) בְּקֶ֣רֶב (in the midst) מַחֲנֶ֗ךָ (of your camp) לְהַצִּֽילְךָ֙ (to deliver you) וְלָתֵ֤ת (and to give over) אֹיְבֶ֙יךָ֙ (your enemies) לְפָנֶ֔יךָ (to your faces); וְהָיָ֥ה (and shall be) מַחֲנֶ֖יךָ (your camp) קָד֑וֹשׁ (holy), וְלֹֽא־ (that not) יִרְאֶ֤ה (He may see) בְךָ֙ (in you) עֶרְוַ֣ת (unclean) דָּבָ֔ר (thing) וְשָׁ֖ב (and turn away) מֵאַחֲרֶֽיךָ׃ס (from you).

Miscellaneous Laws

15  לֹא־ (Not) תַסְגִּ֥יר (you shall give back) עֶ֖בֶד (the slave) אֶל־ (to) אֲדֹנָ֑יו (his master) אֲשֶׁר־ (who) יִנָּצֵ֥ל (has escaped) אֵלֶ֖יךָ (to you) מֵעִ֥ם (from) אֲדֹנָֽיו׃ (his master). 16  עִמְּךָ֞ (With you) יֵשֵׁ֣ב (He will dwell) בְּקִרְבְּךָ֗ (in your midst) בַּמָּק֧וֹם (in the place) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) יִבְחַ֛ר (he chooses) בְּאַחַ֥ד (within one) שְׁעָרֶ֖יךָ (of your gates), בַּטּ֣וֹב (where it is pleasing) ל֑וֹ (to him). לֹ֖א (Not) תּוֹנֶֽנּוּ׃ס (you shall oppress him).

17  לֹא־ (Not) תִהְיֶ֥ה (there shall be) קְדֵשָׁ֖ה (a prostitute) מִבְּנ֣וֹת (among the daughters) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (of Israel), וְלֹֽא־ (and not) יִהְיֶ֥ה (shall there be) קָדֵ֖שׁ (a shrine prostitute) מִבְּנֵ֥י (from the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵל׃ (of Israel). 18  לֹא־ (Not) תָבִיא֩ (you shall bring) אֶתְנַ֨ן (the wage) זוֹנָ֜ה (of a prostitute) וּמְחִ֣יר (or the price) כֶּ֗לֶב (of a dog) בֵּ֛ית (into the house) יְהוָ֥ה (of YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ (your God) לְכָל־ (for any) נֶ֑דֶר (vowed offering); כִּ֧י (for) תוֹעֲבַ֛ת (an abomination to) יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ (your God) גַּם־ (are indeed) שְׁנֵיהֶֽם׃ (both of them).

19  לֹא־ (Not) תַשִּׁ֣יךְ (lend in usury) לְאָחִ֔יךָ (to your brother) נֶ֥שֶׁךְ (usury) כֶּ֖סֶף (of silver), נֶ֣שֶׁךְ (usury) אֹ֑כֶל (of food), נֶ֕שֶׁךְ (usury) כָּל־ (of any) דָּבָ֖ר (thing) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) יִשָּֽׁךְ׃ (is lent on usury). 20  לַנָּכְרִ֣י (To a foreigner) תַשִּׁ֔יךְ (you may lend in usury), וּלְאָחִ֖יךָ (and to your brother) לֹ֣א (not) תַשִּׁ֑יךְ (you may lend in usury), לְמַ֨עַן (so that) יְבָרֶכְךָ֜ (may bless you) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֗יךָ (your God) בְּכֹל֙ (in all) מִשְׁלַ֣ח (to which you set) יָדֶ֔ךָ (your hand) עַל־ (in) הָאָ֕רֶץ (the land) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) אַתָּ֥ה (you) בָא־ (are entering) שָׁ֖מָּה (there) לְרִשְׁתָּֽהּ׃ס (to possess).

21  כִּֽי־ (When) תִדֹּ֥ר (you make) נֶ֙דֶר֙ (a vow) לַיהוָ֣ה (to YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ (your God), לֹ֥א (not) תְאַחֵ֖ר (you shall delay) לְשַׁלְּמ֑וֹ (to pay it). כִּֽי־ (For) דָּרֹ֨שׁ (requiring) יִדְרְשֶׁ֜נּוּ (will require it) יְהוָ֤ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙ (your God) מֵֽעִמָּ֔ךְ (of you), וְהָיָ֥ה (and it would be) בְךָ֖ (in you) חֵֽטְא׃ (sin). 22  וְכִ֥י (But if) תֶחְדַּ֖ל (you abstain) לִנְדֹּ֑ר (from vowing), לֹֽא־ (not) יִהְיֶ֥ה (it shall be) בְךָ֖ (in you) חֵֽטְא׃ (sin). 23  מוֹצָ֥א (That which has gone out) שְׂפָתֶ֖יךָ (of your lips) תִּשְׁמֹ֣ר (you shall keep) וְעָשִׂ֑יתָ (and perform), כַּאֲשֶׁ֨ר (as) נָדַ֜רְתָּ (you vowed) לַיהוָ֤ה (to YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙ (your God) נְדָבָ֔ה (voluntarily) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (what) דִּבַּ֖רְתָּ (you have spoken) בְּפִֽיךָ׃ס (with your mouth).

24  כִּ֤י (When) תָבֹא֙ (you come) בְּכֶ֣רֶם (to the vineyard) רֵעֶ֔ךָ (of your neighbor), וְאָכַלְתָּ֧ (and you may eat) עֲנָבִ֛ים (grapes) כְּנַפְשְׁךָ֖ (according to your desire) שָׂבְעֶ֑ךָ (your sufficiency). וְאֶֽל־ (And into) כֶּלְיְךָ֖ (your vessel) לֹ֥א (not) תִתֵּֽן׃ס (you shall put).

25  כִּ֤י (When) תָבֹא֙ (you come) בְּקָמַ֣ת (into the standing grain) רֵעֶ֔ךָ (of your neighbor), וְקָטַפְתָּ֥ (and you may pluck) מְלִילֹ֖ת (the heads) בְּיָדֶ֑ךָ (with your hand), וְחֶרְמֵשׁ֙ (and a sickle) לֹ֣א (not) תָנִ֔יף (you shall use) עַ֖ל (on) קָמַ֥ת (the standing grain) רֵעֶֽךָ׃ס (of your neighbor).
