The Covenant Sealed

1  וְאֶל־ (And to) מֹשֶׁ֨ה (Moses) אָמַ֜ר (He said), עֲלֵ֣ה (Come up) אֶל־ (to) יְהוָ֗ה (YHWH), אַתָּה֙ (you) וְאַהֲרֹן֙ (and Aaron), נָדָ֣ב (Nadab) וַאֲבִיה֔וּא (and Abihu), וְשִׁבְעִ֖ים (and seventy) מִזִּקְנֵ֣י (from the elders) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (of Israel), וְהִשְׁתַּחֲוִיתֶ֖ם (and worship) מֵרָחֹֽק׃ (from a distance). 2  וְנִגַּ֨שׁ (And shall draw near) מֹשֶׁ֤ה (Moses) לְבַדּוֹ֙ (alone) אֶל־ (to) יְהוָ֔ה (YHWH), וְהֵ֖ם (and they) לֹ֣א (not) יִגָּ֑שׁוּ (shall draw near); וְהָעָ֕ם (and the people) לֹ֥א (not) יַעֲל֖וּ (shall go up) עִמּֽוֹ׃ (with him).

3  וַיָּבֹ֣א (And came) מֹשֶׁ֗ה (Moses) וַיְסַפֵּ֤ר (and recounted) לָעָם֙ (to the people) אֵ֚ת (-) כָּל־ (all) דִּבְרֵ֣י (the words) יְהוָ֔ה (of YHWH) וְאֵ֖ת (and) כָּל־ (all) הַמִּשְׁפָּטִ֑ים (the ordinances). וַיַּ֨עַן (And answered) כָּל־ (all) הָעָ֜ם (the people) ק֤וֹל (voice) אֶחָד֙ (with one) וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ (and said), כָּל־ (All) הַדְּבָרִ֛ים (the words) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) דִּבֶּ֥ר (has spoken) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH), נַעֲשֶֽׂה׃ (we will do).

4  וַיִּכְתֹּ֣ב (And wrote) מֹשֶׁ֗ה (Moses) אֵ֚ת (-) כָּל־ (all) דִּבְרֵ֣י (the words) יְהוָ֔ה (of YHWH).

וַיַּשְׁכֵּ֣ם (And he rose early) בַּבֹּ֔קֶר (in the morning) וַיִּ֥בֶן (and built) מִזְבֵּ֖חַ (an altar) תַּ֣חַת (at the base) הָהָ֑ר (of the mountain), וּשְׁתֵּ֤ים (and two) עֶשְׂרֵה֙ (and ten) מַצֵּבָ֔ה (pillars) לִשְׁנֵ֥ים (according to the two) עָשָׂ֖ר (and ten) שִׁבְטֵ֥י (tribes) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (of Israel). 5  וַיִּשְׁלַ֗ח (And he sent) אֶֽת־ (-) נַעֲרֵי֙ (young men) בְּנֵ֣י (of the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel), וַיַּֽעֲל֖וּ (and they offered) עֹלֹ֑ת (burnt offerings) וַֽיִּזְבְּח֞וּ (and sacrificed) זְבָחִ֧ים (sacrifices) שְׁלָמִ֛ים (of peace) לַיהוָ֖ה (to YHWH), פָּרִֽים׃ (young bulls).

6  וַיִּקַּ֤ח (And took) מֹשֶׁה֙ (Moses) חֲצִ֣י (half) הַדָּ֔ם (the blood) וַיָּ֖שֶׂם (and put it) בָּאַגָּנֹ֑ת (in basins), וַחֲצִ֣י (and half) הַדָּ֔ם (the blood) זָרַ֖ק (he sprinkled) עַל־ (on) הַמִּזְבֵּֽחַ׃ (the altar). 7  וַיִּקַּח֙ (And he took) סֵ֣פֶר (the Book) הַבְּרִ֔ית (of the Covenant) וַיִּקְרָ֖א (and read it aloud) בְּאָזְנֵ֣י (in the ears) הָעָ֑ם (of the people). וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ (And they said), כֹּ֛ל (All) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) דִּבֶּ֥ר (has spoken) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) נַעֲשֶׂ֥ה (we will do), וְנִשְׁמָֽע׃ (and we will listen).

8  וַיִּקַּ֤ח (And took) מֹשֶׁה֙ (Moses) אֶת־ (-) הַדָּ֔ם (the blood) וַיִּזְרֹ֖ק (and sprinkled it) עַל־ (on) הָעָ֑ם (the people), וַיֹּ֗אמֶר (and he said), הִנֵּ֤ה (Behold) דַֽם־ (the blood) הַבְּרִית֙ (of the covenant), אֲשֶׁ֨ר (which) כָּרַ֤ת (has cut) יְהוָה֙ (YHWH) עִמָּכֶ֔ם (with you⁺) עַ֥ל (according to) כָּל־ (all) הַדְּבָרִ֖ים (the words) הָאֵֽלֶּה׃ (these).

9  וַיַּ֥עַל (And went up) מֹשֶׁ֖ה (Moses) וְאַהֲרֹ֑ן (and Aaron), נָדָב֙ (Nadab) וַאֲבִיה֔וּא (and Abihu), וְשִׁבְעִ֖ים (and seventy) מִזִּקְנֵ֥י (from the elders) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (of Israel), 10  וַיִּרְא֕וּ (and they saw) אֵ֖ת (-) אֱלֹהֵ֣י (the God) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (of Israel). וְתַ֣חַת (And under) רַגְלָ֗יו (His feet) כְּמַעֲשֵׂה֙ (was like the work) לִבְנַ֣ת (of a pavement) הַסַּפִּ֔יר (of sapphire), וּכְעֶ֥צֶם (and like the substance) הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם (of the heavens) לָטֹֽהַר׃ (for purity). 11  וְאֶל־ (And on) אֲצִילֵי֙ (the nobles) בְּנֵ֣י (of the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel) לֹ֥א (not) שָׁלַ֖ח (He did stretch out) יָד֑וֹ (His hand); וַֽיֶּחֱזוּ֙ (and they saw) אֶת־ (-) הָ֣אֱלֹהִ֔ים (God), וַיֹּאכְל֖וּ (and they ate) וַיִּשְׁתּֽוּ׃ס (and they drank).

Moses on the Mountain

12  וַיֹּ֨אמֶר (And said) יְהוָ֜ה (YHWH) אֶל־ (to) מֹשֶׁ֗ה (Moses), עֲלֵ֥ה (Come up) אֵלַ֛י (to Me) הָהָ֖רָה (on the mountain), וֶהְיֵה־ (and be) שָׁ֑ם (there), וְאֶתְּנָ֨ה (and I will give) לְךָ֜ (to you) אֶת־ (-) לֻחֹ֣ת (tablets) הָאֶ֗בֶן (of the stone), וְהַתּוֹרָה֙ (and the law), וְהַמִּצְוָ֔ה (and the command) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (that) כָּתַ֖בְתִּי (I have written) לְהוֹרֹתָֽם׃ (that you may teach them).

13  וַיָּ֣קָם (And arose) מֹשֶׁ֔ה (Moses) וִיהוֹשֻׁ֖עַ (and Joshua) מְשָׁרְת֑וֹ (his assistant), וַיַּ֥עַל (and went up) מֹשֶׁ֖ה (Moses) אֶל־ (to) הַ֥ר (the mountain) הָאֱלֹהִֽים׃ (of God). 14  וְאֶל־ (And to) הַזְּקֵנִ֤ים (the elders), אָמַר֙ (he said) שְׁבוּ־ (Remain) לָ֣נוּ (for us) בָזֶ֔ה (in this place), עַ֥ד (until) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) נָשׁ֖וּב (we return) אֲלֵיכֶ֑ם (to you⁺). וְהִנֵּ֨ה (And behold) אַהֲרֹ֤ן (Aaron) וְחוּר֙ (and Hur) עִמָּכֶ֔ם (are with you⁺). מִי־ (Whoever is) בַ֥עַל (a master) דְּבָרִ֖ים (of words)? יִגַּ֥שׁ (Shall come near) אֲלֵהֶֽם׃ (to them).

15  וַיַּ֥עַל (And went up) מֹשֶׁ֖ה (Moses) אֶל־ (to) הָהָ֑ר (the mountain), וַיְכַ֥ס (and covered) הֶעָנָ֖ן (the cloud) אֶת־ (-) הָהָֽר׃ (the mountain). 16  וַיִּשְׁכֹּ֤ן (And dwelt) כְּבוֹד־ (the glory) יְהוָה֙ (of YHWH) עַל־ (on) הַ֣ר (Mount) סִינַ֔י (Sinai), וַיְכַסֵּ֥הוּ (and covered it) הֶעָנָ֖ן (the cloud) שֵׁ֣שֶׁת (six) יָמִ֑ים (days); וַיִּקְרָ֧א (and He called) אֶל־ (to) מֹשֶׁ֛ה (Moses) בַּיּ֥וֹם (on the day) הַשְּׁבִיעִ֖י (seventh) מִתּ֥וֹךְ (from the midst) הֶעָנָֽן׃ (of the cloud). 17  וּמַרְאֵה֙ (And the sight) כְּב֣וֹד (of the glory) יְהוָ֔ה (of YHWH) כְּאֵ֥שׁ (was like a fire) אֹכֶ֖לֶת (consuming) בְּרֹ֣אשׁ (on the top) הָהָ֑ר (of the mountain) לְעֵינֵ֖י (in the eyes) בְּנֵ֥י (of the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (of Israel).

18  וַיָּבֹ֥א (And entered) מֹשֶׁ֛ה (Moses) בְּת֥וֹךְ (into the midst) הֶעָנָ֖ן (of the cloud), וַיַּ֣עַל (and he went up) אֶל־ (to) הָהָ֑ר (the mountain). וַיְהִ֤י (And was) מֹשֶׁה֙ (Moses) בָּהָ֔ר (on the mountain) אַרְבָּעִ֣ים (forty) י֔וֹם (days) וְאַרְבָּעִ֖ים (and forty) לָֽיְלָה׃פ (nights).
