God’s Anger against Israel

1  כְּדַבֵּ֤ר (When spoke) אֶפְרַ֙יִם֙ (Ephraim) רְתֵ֔ת (there was trembling),

נָשָׂ֥א (was exalted) ה֖וּא (he) בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (in Israel);

וַיֶּאְשַׁ֥ם (and he became guilty) בַּבַּ֖עַל (by the Baal),

וַיָּמֹֽת׃ (and he died).

2  וְעַתָּ֣ה׀ (And now) יוֹסִ֣פוּ (they add), לַחֲטֹ֗א (to sin)

וַיַּעְשׂ֣וּ (and have made) לָהֶם֩ (for themselves) מַסֵּכָ֨ה (molten images)

מִכַּסְפָּ֤ם (from their silver), כִּתְבוּנָם֙ (according to their skill), עֲצַבִּ֔ים (idols)

מַעֲשֵׂ֥ה (that are the work) חָרָשִׁ֖ים (of craftsmen). כֻּלֹּ֑ה (All) לָהֶם֙ (of them)

הֵ֣ם (they) אֹמְרִ֔ים (say of them)

זֹבְחֵ֣י (Those who sacrifice) אָדָ֔ם (man)

עֲגָלִ֖ים (the calves) יִשָּׁקֽוּן׃ (they will kiss).

3  לָכֵ֗ן (Therefore) יִֽהְיוּ֙ (they will be) כַּעֲנַן־ (like the cloud), בֹּ֔קֶר (of morning)

וְכַטַּ֖ל (and like the dew) מַשְׁכִּ֣ים (rising early) הֹלֵ֑ךְ (that passes away),

כְּמֹץ֙ (like chaff) יְסֹעֵ֣ר (that swirls) מִגֹּ֔רֶן (from the threshing floor),

וּכְעָשָׁ֖ן (and like smoke) מֵאֲרֻבָּֽה׃ (from a window).

4  וְאָנֹכִ֛י (And For I am) יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ (your God)

מֵאֶ֣רֶץ (from the land) מִצְרָ֑יִם (of Egypt),

וֵאלֹהִ֤ים (and gods) זֽוּלָתִי֙ (besides Me) לֹ֣א (not) תֵדָ֔ע (you know)

וּמוֹשִׁ֥יעַ (and is able to save) אַ֖יִן (no one) בִּלְתִּֽי׃ (besides Me).

5  אֲנִ֥י (I) יְדַעְתִּ֖יךָ (knew you) בַּמִּדְבָּ֑ר (in the wilderness),

בְּאֶ֖רֶץ (in the land) תַּלְאֻבֽוֹת׃ (of drought).

6  כְּמַרְעִיתָם֙ (At their grazing),

וַיִּשְׂבָּ֔עוּ (and they became satisfied);

שָׂבְע֖וּ (they were filled),

וַיָּ֣רָם (and was exalted); לִבָּ֑ם (their heart)

עַל־ (upon) כֵּ֖ן (thus) שְׁכֵחֽוּנִי׃ (they forgot Me).

7  וָאֱהִ֥י (And I will become) לָהֶ֖ם (to them) כְּמוֹ־ (like) שָׁ֑חַל (a lion);

כְּנָמֵ֖ר (like a leopard) עַל־ (alongside) דֶּ֥רֶךְ (the pathway) אָשֽׁוּר׃ (I will watch).

8  אֶפְגְּשֵׁם֙ (I will encounter them) כְּדֹ֣ב (like a bear) שַׁכּ֔וּל (bereaved)

וְאֶקְרַ֖ע (and I will tear open) סְג֣וֹר (the enclosure) לִבָּ֑ם (of their heart),

וְאֹכְלֵ֥ם (and I will devour them) שָׁם֙ (there) כְּלָבִ֔יא (like a lion),

חַיַּ֥ת (a beast) הַשָּׂדֶ֖ה (of the field) תְּבַקְּעֵֽם׃ (will tear them apart).

Death and Resurrection
(1 Corinthians 15:50–58)

9  שִֽׁחֶתְךָ֥ (He has destroyed you) יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל (O Israel),

כִּֽי־ (for) בִ֥י (you are against Me)

בְעֶזְרֶֽךָ׃ (against your helper).

10  אֱהִ֤י (Where is) מַלְכְּךָ֙ (your king); אֵפ֔וֹא (now)

וְיוֹשִֽׁיעֲךָ֖ (that he may save you) בְּכָל־ (in all) עָרֶ֑יךָ (your cities)?

וְשֹׁ֣פְטֶ֔יךָ (And your rulers) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (of whom) אָמַ֔רְתָּ (you said),

תְּנָה־ (Give) לִּ֖י (to me) מֶ֥לֶךְ (a king) וְשָׂרִֽים׃ (and princes)?

11  אֶֽתֶּן־ (I gave) לְךָ֥ (to you) מֶ֙לֶךְ֙ (a king) בְּאַפִּ֔י (in My anger),

וְאֶקַּ֖ח (and I took him away) בְּעֶבְרָתִֽי׃ס (in My wrath).

12  צָרוּר֙ (Is bound up); עֲוֺ֣ן (the iniquity) אֶפְרָ֔יִם (of Ephraim)

צְפוּנָ֖ה (and is stored up) חַטָּאתֽוֹ׃ (his sin).

13  חֶבְלֵ֥י (The pains) יֽוֹלֵדָ֖ה (of childbirth) יָבֹ֣אוּ (will come) ל֑וֹ (to him)

הוּא־ (he) בֵן֙ (a son); לֹ֣א (is not) חָכָ֔ם (wise)

כִּֽי־ (for) עֵ֥ת (at the time) לֹֽא־ (not)

יַעֲמֹ֖ד (would he stand) בְּמִשְׁבַּ֥ר (for the breaking forth) בָּנִֽים׃ (of sons).

14  מִיַּ֤ד (From the hand) שְׁאוֹל֙ (of Sheol); אֶפְדֵּ֔ם (I will ransom them)

מִמָּ֖וֶת (from death)? אֶגְאָלֵ֑ם (Will I redeem them)

אֱהִ֨י (Where are) דְבָרֶיךָ֜ (your plagues); מָ֗וֶת (O Death),

אֱהִ֤י (Where is) קָֽטָבְךָ֙ (is your destruction); שְׁא֔וֹל (O Grave),

נֹ֖חַם (Compassion) יִסָּתֵ֥ר (is hidden) מֵעֵינָֽי׃ (from My eyes).

Judgment on Samaria

15  כִּ֣י (Though) ה֔וּא (he) בֵּ֥ן (among) אַחִ֖ים (his brothers), יַפְרִ֑יא (is fruitful)

יָב֣וֹא (will come), קָדִים֩ (an east wind)

ר֨וּחַ (the wind) יְהוָ֜ה (of YHWH)

מִמִּדְבָּ֣ר (from the desert), עֹלֶ֗ה (it is coming up)

וְיֵב֤וֹשׁ (and will become dry), מְקוֹרוֹ֙ (his fountain)

וְיֶחֱרַ֣ב (and will dry out); מַעְיָנ֔וֹ (his spring)

ה֣וּא (it) יִשְׁסֶ֔ה (will plunder) אוֹצַ֖ר (the treasure)

כָּל־ (of every) כְּלִ֥י (article) חֶמְדָּֽה׃ (of desire).

16  תֶּאְשַׁם֙ (Is guilty); שֹֽׁמְר֔וֹן (Samaria)

כִּ֥י (for) מָרְתָ֖ה (she has rebelled) בֵּֽאלֹהֶ֑יהָ (against her God).

בַּחֶ֣רֶב (By the sword), יִפֹּ֔לוּ (they will fall)

עֹלְלֵיהֶ֣ם (their infants) יְרֻטָּ֔שׁוּ (will be dashed to pieces),

וְהָרִיּוֹתָ֖יו (and their pregnant women) יְבֻקָּֽעוּ׃פ (ripped open).
