David spoke the words of this song to the LORD on the day the LORD rescued him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. 1And David spake unto the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD had delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul:
He said: The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer, 2And he said, The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;
my God, my mountain where I seek refuge. My shield, the horn of my salvation, my stronghold, my refuge, and my Savior, You save me from violence. 3The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.
I called to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I was saved from my enemies. 4I will call on the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.
For the waves of death engulfed me; the torrents of destruction terrified me. 5When the waves of death compassed me, the floods of ungodly men made me afraid;
The ropes of Sheol entangled me; the snares of death confronted me. 6The sorrows of hell compassed me about; the snares of death prevented me;
I called to the LORD in my distress; I called to my God. From His temple He heard my voice, and my cry for help reached His ears. 7In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried to my God: and he did hear my voice out of his temple, and my cry did enter into his ears.
Then the earth shook and quaked; the foundations of the heavens trembled; they shook because He burned with anger. 8Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations of heaven moved and shook, because he was wroth.
Smoke rose from His nostrils, and consuming fire came from His mouth; coals were set ablaze by it. 9There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it.
He parted the heavens and came down, a dark cloud beneath His feet. 10He bowed the heavens also, and came down; and darkness was under his feet.
He rode on a cherub and flew, soaring on the wings of the wind. 11And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly: and he was seen upon the wings of the wind.
He made darkness a canopy around Him, a gathering of water and thick clouds. 12And he made darkness pavilions round about him, dark waters, and thick clouds of the skies.
From the radiance of His presence, flaming coals were ignited. 13Through the brightness before him were coals of fire kindled.
The LORD thundered from heaven; the Most High projected His voice. 14The LORD thundered from heaven, and the most High uttered his voice.
He shot arrows and scattered them; He hurled lightning bolts and routed them. 15And he sent out arrows, and scattered them; lightning, and discomfited them.
The depths of the sea became visible, the foundations of the world were exposed at the rebuke of the LORD, at the blast of the breath of His nostrils. 16And the channels of the sea appeared, the foundations of the world were discovered, at the rebuking of the LORD, at the blast of the breath of his nostrils.
He reached down from heaven and took hold of me; He pulled me out of deep waters. 17He sent from above, he took me; he drew me out of many waters;
He rescued me from my powerful enemy and from those who hated me, for they were too strong for me. 18He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them that hated me: for they were too strong for me.
They confronted me in the day of my distress, but the LORD was my support. 19They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the LORD was my stay.
He brought me out to a spacious place; He rescued me because He delighted in me. 20He brought me forth also into a large place: he delivered me, because he delighted in me.
The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; He repaid me according to the cleanness of my hands. 21The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness: according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.
For I have kept the ways of the LORD and have not turned from my God to wickedness. 22For I have kept the ways of the LORD, and have not wickedly departed from my God.
Indeed, I have kept all His ordinances in mind and have not disregarded His statutes. 23For all his judgments were before me: and as for his statutes, I did not depart from them.
I was blameless before Him and kept myself from sinning. 24I was also upright before him, and have kept myself from mine iniquity.
So the LORD repaid me according to my righteousness, according to my cleanness in His sight. 25Therefore the LORD hath recompensed me according to my righteousness; according to my cleanness in his eye sight.
With the faithful You prove Yourself faithful; with the blameless man You prove Yourself blameless; 26With the merciful thou wilt shew thyself merciful, and with the upright man thou wilt shew thyself upright.
with the pure You prove Yourself pure, but with the crooked You prove Yourself shrewd. 27With the pure thou wilt shew thyself pure; and with the froward thou wilt shew thyself unsavoury.
You rescue an afflicted people, but Your eyes are set against the proud-- You humble them. 28And the afflicted people thou wilt save: but thine eyes are upon the haughty, that thou mayest bring them down.
LORD, You are my lamp; the LORD illuminates my darkness. 29For thou art my lamp, O LORD: and the LORD will lighten my darkness.
With You I can attack a barrier, and with my God I can leap over a wall. 30For by thee I have run through a troop: by my God have I leaped over a wall.
God--His way is perfect; the word of the LORD is pure. He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him. 31As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him.
For who is God besides the LORD? And who is a rock? Only our God. 32For who is God, save the LORD? and who is a rock, save our God?
God is my strong refuge; He makes my way perfect. 33God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect.
He makes my feet like the feet of a deer and sets me securely on the heights. 34He maketh my feet like hinds' feet: and setteth me upon my high places.
He trains my hands for war; my arms can bend a bow of bronze. 35He teacheth my hands to war; so that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms.
You have given me the shield of Your salvation; Your help exalts me. 36Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy gentleness hath made me great.
You widen a place beneath me for my steps, and my ankles do not give way. 37Thou hast enlarged my steps under me; so that my feet did not slip.
I pursue my enemies and destroy them; I do not turn back until they are wiped out. 38I have pursued mine enemies, and destroyed them; and turned not again until I had consumed them.
I wipe them out and crush them, and they do not rise; they fall beneath my feet. 39And I have consumed them, and wounded them, that they could not arise: yea, they are fallen under my feet.
You have clothed me with strength for battle; You subdue my adversaries beneath me. 40For thou hast girded me with strength to battle: them that rose up against me hast thou subdued under me.
You have made my enemies retreat before me; I annihilate those who hate me. 41Thou hast also given me the necks of mine enemies, that I might destroy them that hate me.
They look, but there is no one to save them-- they look to the LORD, but He does not answer them. 42They looked, but there was none to save; even unto the LORD, but he answered them not.
I pulverize them like dust of the earth; I crush them and trample them like mud in the streets. 43Then did I beat them as small as the dust of the earth, I did stamp them as the mire of the street, and did spread them abroad.
You have freed me from the feuds among my people; You have appointed me the head of nations; a people I had not known serve me. 44Thou also hast delivered me from the strivings of my people, thou hast kept me to be head of the heathen: a people which I knew not shall serve me.
Foreigners submit to me grudgingly; as soon as they hear, they obey me. 45Strangers shall submit themselves unto me: as soon as they hear, they shall be obedient unto me.
Foreigners lose heart and come trembling from their fortifications. 46Strangers shall fade away, and they shall be afraid out of their close places.
The LORD lives--may my rock be praised! God, the rock of my salvation, is exalted. 47The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and exalted be the God of the rock of my salvation.
God--He gives me vengeance and casts down peoples under me. 48It is God that avengeth me, and that bringeth down the people under me,
He frees me from my enemies. You exalt me above my adversaries; You rescue me from violent men. 49And that bringeth me forth from mine enemies: thou also hast lifted me up on high above them that rose up against me: thou hast delivered me from the violent man.
Therefore I will praise You, LORD, among the nations; I will sing about Your name. 50Therefore I will give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the heathen, and I will sing praises unto thy name.
He is a tower of salvation for His king; He shows loyalty to His anointed, to David and his descendants forever. 51He is the tower of salvation for his king: and sheweth mercy to his anointed, unto David, and to his seed for evermore.
