International Standard VersionNew Living Translation
The LORD spoke to Moses: 1Then the LORD said to Moses,
"On the first day of the first month you are to set up the tent of the Tent of Meeting. 2“Set up the Tabernacle on the first day of the new year.
You are to put the Ark of the Testimony there, and screen off the ark with the curtain. 3Place the Ark of the Covenant inside, and install the inner curtain to enclose the Ark within the Most Holy Place.
You are to bring in the table and properly arrange what goes on it. Then you are to bring in the lamp stand and set up its lamps.4Then bring in the table, and arrange the utensils on it. And bring in the lampstand, and set up the lamps.
"You are to put the golden altar for incense in front of the Ark of the Testimony and then set up the screen for the doorway to the tent. 5“Place the gold incense altar in front of the Ark of the Covenant. Then hang the curtain at the entrance of the Tabernacle.
You are to put the altar for burnt offerings in front of the doorway of the tent of the Tent of Meeting. 6Place the altar of burnt offering in front of the Tabernacle entrance.
You are to put the basin between the Tent of Meeting and the altar and put water in it.7Set the washbasin between the Tabernacle and the altar, and fill it with water.
You are to set up the court all around, and hang up the screen for the gate of the court. 8Then set up the courtyard around the outside of the tent, and hang the curtain for the courtyard entrance.
You are to take the anointing oil and anoint the tent and all that is in it. You are to consecrate it and all its furnishings and it will be holy.9“Take the anointing oil and anoint the Tabernacle and all its furnishings to consecrate them and make them holy.
"You are to anoint the altar for burnt offerings and all its utensils. You are to consecrate the altar and the altar will be most holy. 10Anoint the altar of burnt offering and its utensils to consecrate them. Then the altar will become absolutely holy.
You are to anoint the basin and its base and consecrate it. 11Next anoint the washbasin and its stand to consecrate them.
Then you are to bring Aaron and his sons to the doorway of the Tent of Meeting, and wash them with water. 12“Present Aaron and his sons at the entrance of the Tabernacle, and wash them with water.
You are to clothe Aaron with the holy garments, you are to anoint him, and consecrate him so he may serve me as priest. 13Dress Aaron with the sacred garments and anoint him, consecrating him to serve me as a priest.
You are to bring his sons and clothe them with tunics. 14Then present his sons and dress them in their tunics.
You are to anoint them just as you anointed their father so they may serve me as priests. Their anointing is to qualify them to belong to a perpetual priesthood from generation to generation."15Anoint them as you did their father, so they may also serve me as priests. With their anointing, Aaron’s descendants are set apart for the priesthood forever, from generation to generation.”
Moses did everything that the LORD had commanded him, so he did. 16Moses proceeded to do everything just as the LORD had commanded him.
And so in the first month of the second year, on the first day of the month, the tent was set up. 17So the Tabernacle was set up on the first day of the first month of the second year.
Moses set up the tent. He installed its sockets and set its boards in place. He inserted its bars and set up its pillars. 18Moses erected the Tabernacle by setting down its bases, inserting the frames, attaching the crossbars, and setting up the posts.
He spread the tent over the tent and put the covering of the tent on top of it, just as the LORD had commanded him.19Then he spread the coverings over the Tabernacle framework and put on the protective layers, just as the LORD had commanded him.
Then he took the Testimony, put it into the ark, and placed the poles on the ark. He then put the Mercy Seat on top of the ark. 20He took the stone tablets inscribed with the terms of the covenant and placed them inside the Ark. Then he attached the carrying poles to the Ark, and he set the Ark’s cover—the place of atonement—on top of it.
He brought the ark into the tent, set up the curtain, and screened off the Ark of the Testimony, just as the LORD had commanded him.21Then he brought the Ark of the Covenant into the Tabernacle and hung the inner curtain to shield it from view, just as the LORD had commanded him.
He put the table in the Tent of Meeting, on the north side of the tent, outside the curtain, 22Next Moses placed the table in the Tabernacle, along the north side of the Holy Place, just outside the inner curtain.
and properly arranged the bread on it in the LORD's presence, just as the LORD had commanded him. 23And he arranged the Bread of the Presence on the table before the LORD, just as the LORD had commanded him.
Then he put the lamp stand in the Tent of Meeting, opposite the table on the south side of the tent, 24He set the lampstand in the Tabernacle across from the table on the south side of the Holy Place.
and set up the lamps in the LORD's presence, just as the LORD had commanded him.25Then he lit the lamps in the LORD’s presence, just as the LORD had commanded him.
He put the golden altar in the Tent of Meeting in front of the curtain 26He also placed the gold incense altar in the Tabernacle, in the Holy Place in front of the inner curtain.
and burned aromatic incense on it, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.27On it he burned the fragrant incense, just as the LORD had commanded him.
He set up the screen for the doorway of the tent. 28He hung the curtain at the entrance of the Tabernacle,
He put the altar for burnt offerings at the doorway of the tent of the Tent of Meeting, and offered the burnt offering and the grain offering on it, just as the LORD had commanded him.29and he placed the altar of burnt offering near the Tabernacle entrance. On it he offered a burnt offering and a grain offering, just as the LORD had commanded him.
He put the basin between the Tent of Meeting and the altar, and put water in it for washing. 30Next Moses placed the washbasin between the Tabernacle and the altar. He filled it with water so the priests could wash themselves.
Moses, Aaron, and his sons washed their hands and feet from it. 31Moses and Aaron and Aaron’s sons used water from it to wash their hands and feet.
When they entered the Tent of Meeting and approached the altar, they washed, just as the LORD had commanded him.32Whenever they approached the altar and entered the Tabernacle, they washed themselves, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
He set up the court all around the tent and the altar, and hung up the screen for the gate of the court. And so Moses finished the work.33Then he hung the curtains forming the courtyard around the Tabernacle and the altar. And he set up the curtain at the entrance of the courtyard. So at last Moses finished the work. The LORD’s Glory Fills the Tabernacle
The cloud covered the Tent of Meeting, and the glory of the LORD filled the tent. 34Then the cloud covered the Tabernacle, and the glory of the LORD filled the Tabernacle.
Moses was not able to enter the Tent of Meeting because the cloud had settled on it, and the glory of the LORD filled the tent. 35Moses could no longer enter the Tabernacle because the cloud had settled down over it, and the glory of the LORD filled the Tabernacle.
Whenever the cloud was lifted up from the tent, the Israelis would set out on their journey, 36Now whenever the cloud lifted from the Tabernacle, the people of Israel would set out on their journey, following it.
but if the cloud was not lifted up, they would not set out until it was lifted up, 37But if the cloud did not rise, they remained where they were until it lifted.
since the cloud of the LORD was over the tent by day, and the fire was in it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel in all their journeys.38The cloud of the LORD hovered over the Tabernacle during the day, and at night fire glowed inside the cloud so the whole family of Israel could see it. This continued throughout all their journeys.
