Psalm 77
NET BibleBerean Study Bible
For the music director, Jeduthun; a psalm of Asaph. I will cry out to God and call for help! I will cry out to God and he will pay attention to me. 1For the choirmaster. According to Jeduthun. A Psalm of Asaph. I cried out to God; I cried aloud to God to hear me.
In my time of trouble I sought the Lord. I kept my hand raised in prayer throughout the night. I refused to be comforted. 2In the day of trouble I sought the Lord; through the night my outstretched hands did not grow weary; my soul refused to be comforted.
I said, "I will remember God while I groan; I will think about him while my strength leaves me." (Selah) 3I remembered You, O God, and I groaned; I mused and my spirit grew faint. Selah
You held my eyelids open; I was troubled and could not speak. 4You have kept my eyes from closing; I am too troubled to speak.
I thought about the days of old, about ancient times. 5I considered the days of old, the years long in the past.
I said, "During the night I will remember the song I once sang; I will think very carefully." I tried to make sense of what was happening. 6At night I remembered my song; in my heart I mused, and my spirit pondered:
I asked, "Will the Lord reject me forever? Will he never again show me his favor? 7“Will the Lord spurn us forever and never show His favor again?
Has his loyal love disappeared forever? Has his promise failed forever? 8Is His loving devotion gone forever? Has His promise failed for all time?
Has God forgotten to be merciful? Has his anger stifled his compassion?" 9Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has His anger shut off His compassion?” Selah
Then I said, "I am sickened by the thought that the sovereign One might become inactive. 10So I said, “I am grieved that the right hand of the Most High has changed.”
I will remember the works of the LORD. Yes, I will remember the amazing things you did long ago! 11I will remember the works of the LORD; yes, I will remember Your wonders of old.
I will think about all you have done; I will reflect upon your deeds!" 12I will reflect on all You have done and ponder Your mighty deeds.
O God, your deeds are extraordinary! What god can compare to our great God? 13Your way, O God, is holy. What god is so great as our God?
You are the God who does amazing things; you have revealed your strength among the nations. 14You are the God who works wonders; You display Your strength among the peoples.
You delivered your people by your strength--the children of Jacob and Joseph. (Selah) 15With power You redeemed Your people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah
The waters saw you, O God, the waters saw you and trembled. Yes, the depths of the sea shook with fear. 16The waters saw You, O God; the waters saw You and swirled; even the depths were shaken.
The clouds poured down rain; the skies thundered. Yes, your arrows flashed about. 17The clouds poured down water; the skies resounded with thunder; Your arrows flashed back and forth.
Your thunderous voice was heard in the wind; the lightning bolts lit up the world; the earth trembled and shook. 18Your thunder resounded in the whirlwind; the lightning lit up the world; the earth trembled and quaked.
You walked through the sea; you passed through the surging waters, but left no footprints. 19Your path led through the sea, Your way through the mighty waters, but Your footprints were not to be found.
You led your people like a flock of sheep, by the hand of Moses and Aaron. 20You led Your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.
