1This is the account of Noah's sons Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Sons were born to them after the flood. 1These are the family records of Noah's sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. They also had sons after the flood.
2The sons of Japheth were Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.2Japheth's sons: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.
3The sons of Gomer were Askenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.3Gomer's sons: Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.
4The sons of Javan were Elishah, Tarshish, the Kittim, and the Dodanim.4And Javan's sons: Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim.
5From these the coastlands of the nations were separated into their lands, every one according to its language, according to their families, by their nations. 5From these descendants, the peoples of the coasts and islands spread out into their lands according to their clans in their nations, each with its own language.
6The sons of Ham were Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan.6Ham's sons: Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan.
7The sons of Cush were Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. The sons of Raamah were Sheba and Dedan. 7Cush's sons: Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. And Raamah's sons: Sheba and Dedan.
8Cush was the father of Nimrod; he began to be a valiant warrior on the earth.8Cush fathered Nimrod, who began to be powerful in the land.
9He was a mighty hunter before the LORD. (That is why it is said, "Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before the LORD.")9He was a powerful hunter in the sight of the LORD. That is why it is said, "Like Nimrod, a powerful hunter in the sight of the LORD."
10The primary regions of his kingdom were Babel, Erech, Akkad, and Calneh in the land of Shinar.10His kingdom started with Babylon, Erech, Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.
11From that land he went to Assyria, where he built Nineveh, Rehoboth-Ir, Calah,11From that land he went to Assyria and built Nineveh, Rehoboth-ir, Calah,
12and Resen, which is between Nineveh and the great city Calah. 12and Resen, between Nineveh and the great city Calah.
13Mizraim was the father of the Ludites, Anamites, Lehabites, Naphtuhites,13Mizraim fathered the people of Lud, Anam, Lehab, Naphtuh,
14Pathrusites, Casluhites (from whom the Philistines came), and Caphtorites. 14Pathrus, Casluh (the Philistines came from them), and Caphtor.
15Canaan was the father of Sidon his firstborn, Heth,15Canaan fathered Sidon his firstborn and Heth,
16the Jebusites, Amorites, Girgashites,16as well as the Jebusites, the Amorites, the Girgashites,
17Hivites, Arkites, Sinites,17the Hivites, the Arkites, the Sinites,
18Arvadites, Zemarites, and Hamathites. Eventually the families of the Canaanites were scattered18the Arvadites, the Zemarites, and the Hamathites. Afterward the Canaanite clans scattered.
19and the borders of Canaan extended from Sidon all the way to Gerar as far as Gaza, and all the way to Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha.19The Canaanite border went from Sidon going toward Gerar as far as Gaza, and going toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim as far as Lasha.
20These are the sons of Ham, according to their families, according to their languages, by their lands, and by their nations. 20These are Ham's sons by their clans, according to their languages, in their lands and their nations.
21And sons were also born to Shem (the older brother of Japheth), the father of all the sons of Eber. 21And Shem, Japheth's older brother, also had sons. Shem was the father of all the sons of Eber.
22The sons of Shem were Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram.22Shem's sons were Elam, Asshur, Arpachshad, Lud, and Aram.
23The sons of Aram were Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash.23Aram's sons: Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash.
24Arphaxad was the father of Shelah, and Shelah was the father of Eber.24Arpachshad fathered Shelah, and Shelah fathered Eber.
25Two sons were born to Eber: One was named Peleg because in his days the earth was divided, and his brother's name was Joktan.25Eber had two sons. One was named Peleg, for during his days the earth was divided; his brother was named Joktan.
26Joktan was the father of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,26And Joktan fathered Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,
27Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,27Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,
28Obal, Abimael, Sheba,28Obal, Abimael, Sheba,
29Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these were sons of Joktan.29Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these were Joktan's sons.
30Their dwelling place was from Mesha all the way to Sephar in the eastern hills.30Their settlements extended from Mesha to Sephar, the eastern hill country.
31These are the sons of Shem according to their families, according to their languages, by their lands, and according to their nations. 31These are Shem's sons by their clans, according to their languages, in their lands and their nations.
32These are the families of the sons of Noah, according to their genealogies, by their nations, and from these the nations spread over the earth after the flood. 32These are the clans of Noah's sons, according to their family records, in their nations. The nations on earth spread out from these after the flood.
