Psalm 89
NLT Parallel CSB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New Living TranslationChristian Standard Bible
I will sing of the LORD’s unfailing love forever! Young and old will hear of your faithfulness.1I will sing about the LORD's faithful love forever; I will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations with my mouth.
Your unfailing love will last forever. Your faithfulness is as enduring as the heavens.2For I will declare, "Faithful love is built up forever; you establish your faithfulness in the heavens."
The LORD said, “I have made a covenant with David, my chosen servant. I have sworn this oath to him:3The LORD said, "I have made a covenant with my chosen one; I have sworn an oath to David my servant:
‘I will establish your descendants as kings forever; they will sit on your throne from now until eternity.’” Interlude4'I will establish your offspring forever and build up your throne for all generations.'" Selah
All heaven will praise your great wonders, LORD; myriads of angels will praise you for your faithfulness.5LORD, the heavens praise your wonders--your faithfulness also--in the assembly of the holy ones.
For who in all of heaven can compare with the LORD? What mightiest angel is anything like the LORD?6For who in the skies can compare with the LORD? Who among the heavenly beings is like the LORD?
The highest angelic powers stand in awe of God. He is far more awesome than all who surround his throne.7God is greatly feared in the council of the holy ones, more awe-inspiring than all who surround him.
O LORD God of Heaven’s Armies! Where is there anyone as mighty as you, O LORD? You are entirely faithful.8LORD God of Armies, who is strong like you, LORD? Your faithfulness surrounds you.
You rule the oceans. You subdue their storm-tossed waves.9You rule the raging sea; when its waves surge, you still them.
You crushed the great sea monster. You scattered your enemies with your mighty arm.10You crushed Rahab like one who is slain; you scattered your enemies with your powerful arm.
The heavens are yours, and the earth is yours; everything in the world is yours—you created it all.11The heavens are yours; the earth also is yours. The world and everything in it--you founded them.
You created north and south. Mount Tabor and Mount Hermon praise your name.12North and south--you created them. Tabor and Hermon shout for joy at your name.
Powerful is your arm! Strong is your hand! Your right hand is lifted high in glorious strength.13You have a mighty arm; your hand is powerful; your right hand is lifted high.
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne. Unfailing love and truth walk before you as attendants.14Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; faithful love and truth go before you.
Happy are those who hear the joyful call to worship, for they will walk in the light of your presence, LORD.15Happy are the people who know the joyful shout; LORD, they walk in the light from your face.
They rejoice all day long in your wonderful reputation. They exult in your righteousness.16They rejoice in your name all day long, and they are exalted by your righteousness.
You are their glorious strength. It pleases you to make us strong.17For you are their magnificent strength; by your favor our horn is exalted.
Yes, our protection comes from the LORD, and he, the Holy One of Israel, has given us our king.18Surely our shield belongs to the LORD, our king to the Holy One of Israel.
Long ago you spoke in a vision to your faithful people. You said, “I have raised up a warrior. I have selected him from the common people to be king.19You once spoke in a vision to your faithful ones and said: "I have granted help to a warrior; I have exalted one chosen from the people.
I have found my servant David. I have anointed him with my holy oil.20I have found David my servant; I have anointed him with my sacred oil.
I will steady him with my hand; with my powerful arm I will make him strong.21My hand will always be with him, and my arm will strengthen him.
His enemies will not defeat him, nor will the wicked overpower him.22The enemy will not oppress him; the wicked will not afflict him.
I will beat down his adversaries before him and destroy those who hate him.23I will crush his foes before him and strike those who hate him.
My faithfulness and unfailing love will be with him, and by my authority he will grow in power.24My faithfulness and love will be with him, and through my name his horn will be exalted.
I will extend his rule over the sea, his dominion over the rivers.25I will extend his power to the sea and his right hand to the rivers.
And he will call out to me, ‘You are my Father, my God, and the Rock of my salvation.’26He will call to me, 'You are my Father, my God, the rock of my salvation.'
I will make him my firstborn son, the mightiest king on earth.27I will also make him my firstborn, greatest of the kings of the earth.
I will love him and be kind to him forever; my covenant with him will never end.28I will always preserve my faithful love for him, and my covenant with him will endure.
I will preserve an heir for him; his throne will be as endless as the days of heaven.29I will establish his line forever, his throne as long as heaven lasts.
But if his descendants forsake my instructions and fail to obey my regulations,30If his sons abandon my instruction and do not live by my ordinances,
if they do not obey my decrees and fail to keep my commands,31if they dishonor my statutes and do not keep my commands,
then I will punish their sin with the rod, and their disobedience with beating.32then I will call their rebellion to account with the rod, their iniquity with blows.
But I will never stop loving him nor fail to keep my promise to him.33But I will not withdraw my faithful love from him or betray my faithfulness.
No, I will not break my covenant; I will not take back a single word I said.34I will not violate my covenant or change what my lips have said.
I have sworn an oath to David, and in my holiness I cannot lie:35Once and for all I have sworn an oath by my holiness; I will not lie to David.
His dynasty will go on forever; his kingdom will endure as the sun.36His offspring will continue forever, his throne like the sun before me,
It will be as eternal as the moon, my faithful witness in the sky!” Interlude37like the moon, established forever, a faithful witness in the sky." Selah
But now you have rejected him and cast him off. You are angry with your anointed king.38But you have spurned and rejected him; you have become enraged with your anointed.
You have renounced your covenant with him; you have thrown his crown in the dust.39You have repudiated the covenant with your servant; you have completely dishonored his crown.
You have broken down the walls protecting him and ruined every fort defending him.40You have broken down all his walls; you have reduced his fortified cities to ruins.
Everyone who comes along has robbed him, and he has become a joke to his neighbors.41All who pass by plunder him; he has become an object of ridicule to his neighbors.
You have strengthened his enemies and made them all rejoice.42You have lifted high the right hand of his foes; you have made all his enemies rejoice.
You have made his sword useless and refused to help him in battle.43You have also turned back his sharp sword and have not let him stand in battle.
You have ended his splendor and overturned his throne.44You have made his splendor cease and have overturned his throne.
You have made him old before his time and publicly disgraced him. Interlude45You have shortened the days of his youth; you have covered him with shame. Selah
O LORD, how long will this go on? Will you hide yourself forever? How long will your anger burn like fire?46How long, LORD? Will you hide forever? Will your anger keep burning like fire?
Remember how short my life is, how empty and futile this human existence!47Remember how short my life is. Have you created everyone for nothing?
No one can live forever; all will die. No one can escape the power of the grave. Interlude48What courageous person can live and never see death? Who can save himself from the power of Sheol? Selah
Lord, where is your unfailing love? You promised it to David with a faithful pledge.49Lord, where are the former acts of your faithful love that you swore to David in your faithfulness?
Consider, Lord, how your servants are disgraced! I carry in my heart the insults of so many people.50Remember, Lord, the ridicule against your servants--in my heart I carry abuse from all the peoples--
Your enemies have mocked me, O LORD; they mock your anointed king wherever he goes.51how your enemies have ridiculed, LORD, how they have ridiculed every step of your anointed.
Praise the LORD forever! Amen and amen!52Blessed be the LORD forever. Amen and amen.
