NLT Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT GRK]
New Living TranslationEnglish Standard Version
Jesus called his twelve disciples together and gave them authority to cast out evil spirits and to heal every kind of disease and illness.1And he called to him his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every affliction.
Here are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon (also called Peter), then Andrew (Peter’s brother), James (son of Zebedee), John (James’s brother),2The names of the twelve apostles are these: first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;
Philip, Bartholomew, Thomas, Matthew (the tax collector), James (son of Alphaeus), Thaddaeus,3Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus;
Simon (the zealot ), Judas Iscariot (who later betrayed him).4Simon the Zealot, and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.
Jesus sent out the twelve apostles with these instructions: “Don’t go to the Gentiles or the Samaritans,5These twelve Jesus sent out, instructing them, “Go nowhere among the Gentiles and enter no town of the Samaritans,
but only to the people of Israel—God’s lost sheep.6but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
Go and announce to them that the Kingdom of Heaven is near.7And proclaim as you go, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’
Heal the sick, raise the dead, cure those with leprosy, and cast out demons. Give as freely as you have received!8Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons. You received without paying; give without pay.
“Don’t take any money in your money belts—no gold, silver, or even copper coins.9Acquire no gold or silver or copper for your belts,
Don’t carry a traveler’s bag with a change of clothes and sandals or even a walking stick. Don’t hesitate to accept hospitality, because those who work deserve to be fed.10no bag for your journey, or two tunics or sandals or a staff, for the laborer deserves his food.
“Whenever you enter a city or village, search for a worthy person and stay in his home until you leave town.11And whatever town or village you enter, find out who is worthy in it and stay there until you depart.
When you enter the home, give it your blessing.12As you enter the house, greet it.
If it turns out to be a worthy home, let your blessing stand; if it is not, take back the blessing.13And if the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it, but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you.
If any household or town refuses to welcome you or listen to your message, shake its dust from your feet as you leave.14And if anyone will not receive you or listen to your words, shake off the dust from your feet when you leave that house or town.
I tell you the truth, the wicked cities of Sodom and Gomorrah will be better off than such a town on the judgment day.15Truly, I say to you, it will be more bearable on the day of judgment for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah than for that town.
“Look, I am sending you out as sheep among wolves. So be as shrewd as snakes and harmless as doves.16“Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.
But beware! For you will be handed over to the courts and will be flogged with whips in the synagogues.17Beware of men, for they will deliver you over to courts and flog you in their synagogues,
You will stand trial before governors and kings because you are my followers. But this will be your opportunity to tell the rulers and other unbelievers about me.18and you will be dragged before governors and kings for my sake, to bear witness before them and the Gentiles.
When you are arrested, don’t worry about how to respond or what to say. God will give you the right words at the right time.19When they deliver you over, do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say, for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour.
For it is not you who will be speaking—it will be the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.20For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.
“A brother will betray his brother to death, a father will betray his own child, and children will rebel against their parents and cause them to be killed.21Brother will deliver brother over to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death,
And all nations will hate you because you are my followers. But everyone who endures to the end will be saved.22and you will be hated by all for my name’s sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.
When you are persecuted in one town, flee to the next. I tell you the truth, the Son of Man will return before you have reached all the towns of Israel.23When they persecute you in one town, flee to the next, for truly, I say to you, you will not have gone through all the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.
“Students are not greater than their teacher, and slaves are not greater than their master.24“A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master.
Students are to be like their teacher, and slaves are to be like their master. And since I, the master of the household, have been called the prince of demons, the members of my household will be called by even worse names!25It is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign those of his household.
“But don’t be afraid of those who threaten you. For the time is coming when everything that is covered will be revealed, and all that is secret will be made known to all.26“So have no fear of them, for nothing is covered that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known.
What I tell you now in the darkness, shout abroad when daybreak comes. What I whisper in your ear, shout from the housetops for all to hear!27What I tell you in the dark, say in the light, and what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops.
“Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell.28And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.
What is the price of two sparrows—one copper coin ? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it.29Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father.
And the very hairs on your head are all numbered.30But even the hairs of your head are all numbered.
So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.31Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.
“Everyone who acknowledges me publicly here on earth, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven.32So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven,
But everyone who denies me here on earth, I will also deny before my Father in heaven.33but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.
“Don’t imagine that I came to bring peace to the earth! I came not to bring peace, but a sword.34“Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword.
‘I have come to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.35For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.
Your enemies will be right in your own household!’36And a person’s enemies will be those of his own household.
“If you love your father or mother more than you love me, you are not worthy of being mine; or if you love your son or daughter more than me, you are not worthy of being mine.37Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
If you refuse to take up your cross and follow me, you are not worthy of being mine.38And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me.
If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for me, you will find it.39Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
“Anyone who receives you receives me, and anyone who receives me receives the Father who sent me.40“Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives him who sent me.
If you receive a prophet as one who speaks for God, you will be given the same reward as a prophet. And if you receive righteous people because of their righteousness, you will be given a reward like theirs.41The one who receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and the one who receives a righteous person because he is a righteous person will receive a righteous person’s reward.
And if you give even a cup of cold water to one of the least of my followers, you will surely be rewarded.”42And whoever gives one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.”
