Here are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon (also called Peter), then Andrew (Peter’s brother), James (son of Zebedee), John (James’s brother),2Now the names of the twelve apostles are these: The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; and James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;

Jesus sent out the twelve apostles with these instructions: “Don’t go to the Gentiles or the Samaritans,5These twelve Jesus sent out after instructing them: "Do not go in the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter any city of the Samaritans;
but only to the people of Israel—God’s lost sheep.6but rather go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
Go and announce to them that the Kingdom of Heaven is near.7"And as you go, preach, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.'
Heal the sick, raise the dead, cure those with leprosy, and cast out demons. Give as freely as you have received!8"Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give.
“Don’t take any money in your money belts—no gold, silver, or even copper coins.9"Do not acquire gold, or silver, or copper for your money belts,
Don’t carry a traveler’s bag with a change of clothes and sandals or even a walking stick. Don’t hesitate to accept hospitality, because those who work deserve to be fed.10or a bag for your journey, or even two coats, or sandals, or a staff; for the worker is worthy of his support.
“Whenever you enter a city or village, search for a worthy person and stay in his home until you leave town.11"And whatever city or village you enter, inquire who is worthy in it, and stay at his house until you leave that city.
When you enter the home, give it your blessing.12"As you enter the house, give it your greeting.
If it turns out to be a worthy home, let your blessing stand; if it is not, take back the blessing.13"If the house is worthy, give it your blessing of peace. But if it is not worthy, take back your blessing of peace.
If any household or town refuses to welcome you or listen to your message, shake its dust from your feet as you leave.14"Whoever does not receive you, nor heed your words, as you go out of that house or that city, shake the dust off your feet.
I tell you the truth, the wicked cities of Sodom and Gomorrah will be better off than such a town on the judgment day.15"Truly I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city.
“Look, I am sending you out as sheep among wolves. So be as shrewd as snakes and harmless as doves.16"Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be shrewd as serpents and innocent as doves.
But beware! For you will be handed over to the courts and will be flogged with whips in the synagogues.17"But beware of men, for they will hand you over to the courts and scourge you in their synagogues;
You will stand trial before governors and kings because you are my followers. But this will be your opportunity to tell the rulers and other unbelievers about me.18and you will even be brought before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles.
When you are arrested, don’t worry about how to respond or what to say. God will give you the right words at the right time.19"But when they hand you over, do not worry about how or what you are to say; for it will be given you in that hour what you are to say.
For it is not you who will be speaking—it will be the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.20"For it is not you who speak, but it is the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.
“A brother will betray his brother to death, a father will betray his own child, and children will rebel against their parents and cause them to be killed.21"Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death.
And all nations will hate you because you are my followers. But everyone who endures to the end will be saved.22"You will be hated by all because of My name, but it is the one who has endured to the end who will be saved.
When you are persecuted in one town, flee to the next. I tell you the truth, the Son of Man will return before you have reached all the towns of Israel.23"But whenever they persecute you in one city, flee to the next; for truly I say to you, you will not finish going through the cities of Israel until the Son of Man comes.
“Students are not greater than their teacher, and slaves are not greater than their master.24"A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a slave above his master.
Students are to be like their teacher, and slaves are to be like their master. And since I, the master of the household, have been called the prince of demons, the members of my household will be called by even worse names!25"It is enough for the disciple that he become like his teacher, and the slave like his master. If they have called the head of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign the members of his household!
“But don’t be afraid of those who threaten you. For the time is coming when everything that is covered will be revealed, and all that is secret will be made known to all.26"Therefore do not fear them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known.
What I tell you now in the darkness, shout abroad when daybreak comes. What I whisper in your ear, shout from the housetops for all to hear!27"What I tell you in the darkness, speak in the light; and what you hear whispered in your ear, proclaim upon the housetops.
“Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell.28"Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
What is the price of two sparrows—one copper coin ? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it.29"Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father.
And the very hairs on your head are all numbered.30"But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.31"So do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows.
“Everyone who acknowledges me publicly here on earth, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven.32"Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven.
But everyone who denies me here on earth, I will also deny before my Father in heaven.33"But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven.
“Don’t imagine that I came to bring peace to the earth! I came not to bring peace, but a sword.34"Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.
‘I have come to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.35"For I came to SET A MAN AGAINST HIS FATHER, AND A DAUGHTER AGAINST HER MOTHER, AND A DAUGHTER-IN-LAW AGAINST HER MOTHER-IN-LAW;
Your enemies will be right in your own household!’36and A MAN'S ENEMIES WILL BE THE MEMBERS OF HIS HOUSEHOLD.
“If you love your father or mother more than you love me, you are not worthy of being mine; or if you love your son or daughter more than me, you are not worthy of being mine.37"He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.
If you refuse to take up your cross and follow me, you are not worthy of being mine.38"And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.
If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for me, you will find it.39"He who has found his life will lose it, and he who has lost his life for My sake will find it.
“Anyone who receives you receives me, and anyone who receives me receives the Father who sent me.40"He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me.
If you receive a prophet as one who speaks for God, you will be given the same reward as a prophet. And if you receive righteous people because of their righteousness, you will be given a reward like theirs.41"He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward.
And if you give even a cup of cold water to one of the least of my followers, you will surely be rewarded.”42"And whoever in the name of a disciple gives to one of these little ones even a cup of cold water to drink, truly I say to you, he shall not lose his reward."
